Syreeta and her partner Rob were just a normal couple living in Hong Kong, pursuing creative careers when, in 2014, Rob suddenly suffered a near-fatal brain haemorrhage and stroke while on holiday in Sydney. Their lives were turned upside down in an instant. Rob was left paralysed on his right side and with Aphasia which affects his speech, and Syreeta had to deal with the complexities of becoming a full time carer as well as Robs partner.
Syreeta started her blog as a creative outlet and as a place to deal with the trauma through writing, imagery and song. This served as base when they joined forces to create their brand, Moments of Sense and Style (MOSS). The brand was formed as a way to create light out of darkness, an innovative and conceptual approach to dealing with life changing events. In this episode I chat to Syreeta about her and Rob’s story and how they’ve grown a hugely meaningful business in the wake of trauma.

In this episode I’m telling the story of how I escaped my 9-5 and took my side-hustle full-time, as well as how I even got my side-hustle to the stage where I was ready to take the leap. This is the full back story, the whole winding path I took to escaping my 9-5. There were multiple side-hustles, multiple failures, multiple discoveries along the way.
I’ve also had lots of questions via instagram about planning to leave your 9-5, how to scale your side-hustle, how to prepare finically - all of the kind of questions that come up when you start to think about taking your side-hustle full-time, which I answer towards the end of this episode.

In this episode I chat with Ray about the emotional side of money. What I love about Ray’s approach to money is that she starts with the emotional side before she gets into the practical stuff much later on. If we can understand what’s going on in our heads around money we can start to unpick the limiting beliefs that hold us back and unlock our potential to earn our worth.

Leona Thrift-Ola started her first business on a market stall in Portobello, London and later, her first internet business launched in 2003 - before Topshop even had an online shop. Leona’s business journey is such an inspiring one and one we can all learn a huge amount from.
In this episode Leona and I discuss some of the most prolific online business myths and ‘rules’. Leona’s big thing is playing by your own rules and feeling ok about making mistakes that you can learn from. After all, as Leona says in this episode - running your business is a tweak-athon.

Marianne’s book Be a Free Range Human is a book that really put a fire under me to grow my side-hustle and make it my full-time gig. I find Marianne’s approach to business so refreshing, it’s all about building a business that’s based around you and your strengths, not the box that people wanted to put you into.
And now, Be A Free Range Human is coming out as a second edition with updated content for 2019 (The original came out in 2013). So, in this episode we chat about what’s changed in the online business world over the last few years and also the different ways you can approach building a business now, depending on your personality type.

Claire has a handmade business, a blog, a podcast she’s a content creator and also has a part time job, plus on top of that she’s a mum of two boys. Claire often finds herself with too much on her plate, understandably. So, in this mentoring episode I chat with Claire about the pressure to be consistent when growing our businesses, as we discuss in this episode, we’re humans, not robots so we talk about how to create your own version of consistency and how we can take the pressure off when we make a commitment to creating consistent content that’s just not realistic.
We cover all sorts in this episode, Claire beautifully summed our conversation up as figuring out how to follow your own path and build a business around you, your energy levels and your needs.

In this episode I’m chatting with writer and self-worth coach Kat Nicholls. When Kat was younger she struggled a lot with her mental health and also developed an eating disorder. It was discovering and developing her self-worth that had a huge impact on her recovery and that’s why she’s so passionate about helping others develop their self-worth.
In our conversation we take a deep dive into how self-worth, self-care and having the confidence to grow a creative business are so closely tied and how discovering and developing your self-worth will give you a head start when it comes to building your business.
