Anne goes over the 25 most common ones in the premium lesson. Click below to access it.
    For instance,
EAU is pronounced O, such as in
    EAU –> water
    BEAU –> beautiful
CU is pronounced KU, such as in

  • Quel verbe ? – Today’s French
What’s the correct French verb? – Le français d’aujourd’hui
French would be too easy if we could translate words literally. For example, if we could say “prendre une classe” for “to take a class” or “marcher le chien ” for “to walk the dog”. Here is a list of French verbal expressions most commonly mistranslated into French.
Le français serait trop facile si l’on pouvait traduire littéralement ; par exemple, si l’on pouvait dire « prendre une classe » au lieu de « suivre un cours » ou « marcher le chien » au lieu de « promener le chien ». Voici une liste des expressions verbales les plus couramment mal traduites en français.

    * to take a class …. suivre un cours
    * to walk the dog  …. promener le chien
    * to bring someone somewhere …. amener quelqu’un quelque part
    * to take a nap …. faire la sieste

    Exercice – Practice
Choisissez la bonne réponse – Pick the right answer.

    * Elle _____ (prend une classe, suit un cours) de français à French Hour. C’est super !
    * Vous n’avez toujours pas _____ (marché, promené) le chien?
    * On _____ (amènera, apportera) les enfants à l’école demain matin.
    * Le bébé n’avait pas encore _____ (fait, pris) la sieste à 15H00.

  • LE, LA, LES, UN, UNE, DES – Today’s French
    French Articles
Part of Definite and Indefinite Articles | Masculine and Feminine in French
Saying THE and A or AN. THE has 4 translations in French: LE, LA, L’, LES. A/AN has 3 translations in French: UN, UNE, DES.
French words have a gender.  For instance, a cheese is masculine and a baguette is feminine. The gender shows up in the article, but also in the adjective, so it’s important to know them:

    * the fresh baguette and the fresh cheese –> la baguette fraîche et le fromage frais

Sometimes, the gender is obvious (a man, a woman); sometimes, there is no logic to it. Therefore, it is necessary to memorize the gender with every new noun you are learning.
    Exercice sur les articles définis
Fill in the blanks with LE, LA, UN or UNE. Review the gender of the noun on the first lesson “French Alphabet”. The answers are in the last column.
