    In this lesson, we’ll go over the letters IN at the beginning of a word. We’ll focus on 5 groups of French words starting with IN. Are they pronounced /i/ or /in/?

    * /i/ or [i] is similar to English ‘ee’ in bee – Paris in French

    The rules are pretty straight forward.
    –er and –ir verbs

    * Verbs ending in –er and –ir: take the verb at the infinitive and add the endings of the imparfait, as follows. We’re using AIMER – to like or to love – as the infinitive.

    On pense qu’on anticipe une décision que va annoncé le président ce soir.
    À savoir, le confinement des gens chez œufs pour une durée encore indéterminée, à l’image de ce qui se passe en Italie ou en Espagne. Donc, quitte à être confinés, on a préféré, quitter notre appartement parisien, du centre de Paris, en plus – on né vraiment, au milieu de tout ce monde – pour une maison un peu plus grande et plus au calme.
    Là, on prépare des bagage, qui sont conséquents. Nous, on a la chance d’être des parisiens équipés d’une voiture ; donc on peut s’organiser en conséquence pour la quantité de choses qu’on a pour vivre. De quoi distraire notre jeune fils : vêtements, jouets, lecture, matériel de travail également. Alors, on part en fin d’après-midi de Paris en voiture parce qu’on est parti du principe que si l’annonce était faite des ce soir par le président de nous confiner tous, demain tous les Parisiens auront le même réflexe que nous : d’aller chez les parent, dans leur maison… Donc, on essaie d’éviter le flot de Parisiens qui auront le même réflexe que nous.
    On vas à Noirmoutier. On y sera très, très bien. Ben, c’est le confinement. Disons que rester qu’à Paris, c’est un peu relou. Mieux vaut être au vert. C’est surtout sa. Ça va être sympa. En vrai, c’est des petites vacance.

    Au moment où la vidéo a été tournée, Morgane venait d’entendre aux infos que le président Macron était sur le point d’annoncer le confinement général dû au coronavirus. Les Français auront alors 2 jours pour s’organiser et choisir un lieu de résidence pour les prochaines semaines. Morgane habitant au centre de Paris, elle a choisi d’emmener sa famille dans leur résidence secondaire, en Bretagne avant les embouteillages inévitables. Il y a moins de risques de contagion en province et la vie y sera plus douce.
    Morgane s’est filmée elle-même. Donc, le son n’est pas tout à fait au top. Ça aiguisera votre oreille au français authentique.

    This is a list of 7 common verbs that, in French, have no preposition when followed by a noun or a direct object. However, in English, they do require a preposition. Yikes!
    J’attends le train. I’m waiting for the train.
    It may sound silly to spend time on these verbs. But I want you to have the right reflex and sound more fluent in French. That’s one step in the right direction.

    The Gender of Nouns
    Is the word masculine or feminine?
    The gender – knowing if a word is masculine or feminine – is not always logical. For instance, why do you say un livre (a book) and une livre (half a pound)?
    Luckily, there are a few tricks you can hang onto to spot a gender. Learn about it in the premium lesson.

    French Articles
    THE has 4 translations in French: LE, LA, L’, LES. A/AN has 3 translations in French: UN, UNE, DES.
    French words have a gender.  For instance, a cheese is masculine and a baguette is feminine. The gender shows up in the article, but also in the adjective, so it’s important to know them:

    * the fresh baguette and the fresh cheese –> la baguette fraîche et le fromage frais

    Sometimes, the gender is obvious (a man, a woman); sometimes, there is no logic to it. Therefore, it is necessary to memorize the gender with every new noun you are learning.

    Accents on French letters
    Les accents en français : é, è, ê, ç et autres œ
    The French alphabet has 26 letters, just like in English.
    However, some letters have accents.
    Accents in French serve two main purposes:

    * to modify the sound of a word
    * to distinguish the meaning of two words that would otherwise be spelled the same way

    Most common accents
    1. Accent aigu (acute), accent grave (grave), and accent circonflexe (circumflex)
