Scott: Dr. Schults, thank you very much for joining us on the Frisco podcast.

Dr. Schults: Thank you for having me.

Scott: For everybody that’s listening, we are hanging out at Mazie’s Mission today, and I’m going to guess from the logo that you guys do something with animals.

Dr. Schults: That’s a very good guess. We do, and we’re actually the only veterinary clinic of its kind that is only open to municipal shelters and rescue groups, which means that we only work on homeless animals. We are a 501(c)(3) ourselves. I founded this organization in 2009. We started out as a rescue group. We were pulling animals from shelters and getting them well, getting them homes, and we have kind of divulged into becoming a large veterinary clinic. We opened here in 2014, so we’re having our 2 year anniversary.

Scott: Congratulations.

Dr. Schults: Thank you. What we do basically is we are a full service veterinary hospital. We do everything that any other private practice veterinary hospital does except for our demographic is different, as I said, homeless animals. We offer all these services at a drastically reduced cost for these groups.

Scott: I’m guessing from what you just said then that if I find a dog or a cat or whatever animal, I don’t bring it directly to you if it needs attention. I would still take it to the shelter, and then they would call you?

Dr. Schults: That is correct.

Scott Ellis: Welcome to the Frisco Podcast. I’m your host, Scott Ellis, and my guest this week is Jeff Cheney joining us once again. It’s been a while since we’ve had you on, Jeff, so thank you for being here.

Jeff Cheney: Yeah, good morning. Thanks for having me back.

Scott Ellis: Good to have you. We’re going to chat about a couple of interesting topics right now that are Frisco city-related things that are kind of going around and maybe stirring a little bit of emotion with people.

Scott Ellis: The first one we’re going to dive into is the proposal to allow dogs on restaurant patios or restaurant porches or what have you. Tell us a little bit about what’s actually being proposed there and what that would look like if it was allowed.

Jeff Cheney: We do have many pet lovers here in Frisco, so this has been a topic that’s been brought up multiple times by our citizens, and we just decided to take a look at it and see if it makes sense for Frisco. One of the most controversial issues we dealt with in my term on Council was the dog park, that being built here in Frisco. Scott Ellis: Welcome back to the Frisco podcast. This is Scott Ellis. I am joined today by J.P. Hogan. We’re trying something different this week. Instead of in the studio, we’re actually hanging out in one of our local establishments. We are recording here at Global Peace Coffee off of Legacy Drive. They may be a little background noise. JP Hogan: Thanks a lot, Scott. I really appreciate the opportunity to come talk about Frisco and some things I’m doing here and how much I love living here.

Scott Ellis: You met up with Wendy a while back.

JP Hogan: Yes.

Scott Ellis: She learned a little bit about it and immediately said, “Hey. This would be a great topic for the podcast. Let’s meet up with J.P. and talk about that.” You are a retired colonel for the US Army.

JP Hogan: Yes.

Scott Ellis: Currently the North Texas State President for the Association of the United States Army. I know you guys do a lot of work helping veterans but that’s about as much as I know. I’m sure some others as well. Why don’t you fill us in?

JP Hogan: Scott, that is one of the hats that I wear here in North Texas. By way of background, I was on active duty for 30 years. Came out of Michigan. Got my commission out of ROTC at Eastern Michigan University. Went on active duty. Spent 30 years there. Went home to Michigan right about the turn of the century here in 2000. My wife and I in 2 winters decided that that wasn’t going to work. We needed to come south. Frisco became the target area. We moved down here. Spent a little bit of time after that out of Honolulu doing some consultative work with the Department of Defense largely because all the colonels at that time were in Afghanistan. Scott Ellis: Hey Frisco this is Scott Ellis and high school football season is upon us yet again. This week we’re going to get into the twenty fifteen high school football preview. This is the Frisco Podcast.

With me today is our sports writer Tim Howell and he is joining us to give us the one down of all of the Frisco high school football teams and give us a little sneak peak at how they’re going to do this season. Tim welcome back to the show good to have you here.

Tim Howell: Hey my pleasure Scott thanks for having me. Always a fun time if your looking forward to the high school season. Let’s just jump right into it. All right first and foremost is we all know District 9-5A is now earning the reputation, it’s a well found one of being one of the toughest in the area if not the entire state. Remember now all of these teams have had one year under their belt in 5A, one team of which we’ll speak about in a moment the Lone Star Rangers made the jump from 3A to 5A and were largely successful last year. Here it is District 5A, 9-5A rather, it’s parity being a large reason why people love football so much especially on the professional ranks and on down through college and high school to name of the game in this district is every team legitimately has a chance.

This year nobody seems to be giving much thought to the Independence Knights or the Liberty Redhawks. The Knights of course they’re inaugural season was last year but you can’t really rule them out, same with the Redhawks. Remember a year ago nobody was thinking too much about The Colony or Heritage, the Coyotes or D2 regional semi-finals.

All right so here we start off with the Lone Star Rangers. These guys play with a chip on their shoulder which is interesting, very talented but they do view themselves as the small guys thanks to the lowest enrollment in the district just at about twelve hundred as I mentioned a moment ago they were 3A two years ago

Today we’re going to learn a little bit more about how she became Mrs. Frisco and what the responsibilities of that position are. You’re also going to find out a little bit more about the charity she’s involved with and how we can help her go on to become Mrs. Texas. We are here today with Cindy Sampson aka Mrs. Frisco. Scott Ellis: The first question I have is, how did you become Mrs. Frisco? I didn’t even know until maybe a couple of years ago that this was even out there.

Cindy Sampson: A lot of people aren’t aware that there’s a Mrs. Organization that is out there. There’s actually quite a few. The one that I’m involved in Mrs. Texas International and it’s a nice avenue because it allows for misses to be able to run into pageants and they look at more substance and more platform. I was inspired to run for Mrs. Frisco by my son Tyler who is born an amputee.

Cindy Sampson: What there is, is an interview process. You apply online through a written interview, you submit that and it goes in front of a board with intern
