Steve: I took a few new shooters from my Sunday school class recently to a private range. Once I was confident they could all handle firearms and shoot safely, I had them compete by stapling playing cards to their targets. I called it "shooting blackjack". I stapled about 10 cards to each shooters target, making sure both shooters had cards they could add up to 21...aka blackjack. They were told to shoot, and each had 5 shots with the gun of their choice to shoot blackjack with. First one to shoot blackjack won. They loved it. They all gained a lot of confidence being able to compete at something they were just introduced to.Got another idea? Send them our way to [email protected]Main Topic: 22 Semi-Auto RimFire Pistols

Neil writes: During the discussion of the polymer single-stack pistols, the question was posed: "Would you trust your life to a Taurus pistol?" I have a story that might offer some insight into the psychological aspect of this. I currently own two semi-auto pistols. The oldest is a Taurus PT140 Millennium Pro in .40 caliber that cost around $350. I bought it several years ago while on a very limited budget, on the recommendation of a local range master. The other is an $1200 Kimber SIS PRO in .45. The Kimber is obviously a superior firearm, but it is in the safe while the Taurus remains available for defending myself. Why is this? Simply put, I have had NO failures (not even accidental magazine ejection) out of the Taurus, while I had to send the 1911 back to Kimber for repair. I purchased both guns new, and shoot only factory ammo. The Kimber came to me with an extractor problem that caused failure to feed the ammo. Kimber took the gun back, repaired it for free and paid for the shipping both ways, and I have flawlessly fired over 200 rounds through it since. However, there always remains a question in my mind about its reliability because of it's initial problems. So while I love my Kimber, and enjoy taking it to the range, I won't trust it with my life. I reach for my Taurus when things go "bump" in the night.Jeff Writes: So i pulled up to a gas station and was waiting behind a car to pump gas after this person left. i am driving and my 3 yr old daughter is sleeping in back seat. as this person is leaving they decide to drive towards me so i have to backup to let them out, in the process, this a lady that seems to be around 50 yrs old swoops in and takes the spot i have been waiting for. i put my arms up in the air in irritation. then she shrugged back and says "Oh well". i respond by saying " Well you don't seem to care". as i start to drive to other side, i make it ten feet and this guy that was about 25 yrs old starts screaming at me says "that i don't talk to women that way" and cussing alot. then he starts to walk towards me screaming and red in the face with his hands in the air. i have my Ruger 9mm on me strong side. i put my hand on the grip as i sit in my car. i tell him he needs to calm down. i said this over and over about 5 times, once he was within 15feet of me he stopped looked around and went back to his car. i then went to other side of gas station to get gas. i thought they left but couldn't really tell. but apparently they finished getting gas and then drove over to me and my 3 yr old. the guy and a women that was with him start yelling again. i put my hand back on grip of gun. then repeat this is not your business and get out of here. after them cussing for a min. they left.Richard Writes: I believe that hole behind the magazine is so if you have a double feed and you need to strip the magazine out during a gun fight you can shove your thumb in the hole and rip the magazine out. If you plug that hole up, you'll find that it is a lot harder to strip the mag out during a double feed. Also try to do the same drill with a gun that does not have the hole... It's not easy to pull the magazine out when it double feeds. ie Sig, HK, 1911...Glock Corner: Glock 22 Rim-fire conversions
