Cancer didn't just attack my husband's body--it changed both our lives.  As his wife and caregiver, I'm watching the strong, active, independent man I love fight through pain and limited mobility.  And while I'm helping him fight, I'm fighting my own silent battle--the exhaustion, fear, tears, frustration, heartbreak that caregivers often hide.

Sometimes I just want to scream, "I want my husband back?"

This episode is for every caregiver who has smiled while hurting, stayed strong while exhausted, cried behind closed doors, and wondered, "Does anybody see what I'm going through too?"

This episode of From Creepin 2 Preachin brings tears to my eyes.  Watching the Strong Man I love Need My Help is about the emotional reality of caregiving, marriage, love, changing mobility, and honoring the vows "for better or for worse."

I am watching a man who has always been strong, independent, knowledgeable, smart, and wise adjust to needing my help.  A man who once handled his responsibilities and daily needs on his own now uses a walk, sometimes needs me to help him walk, and no longer drives.  Sometimes I see him searching for something to hold onto because he wants to do it himself.  But when I see him struggling I step in.

What breaks my heart is seeing the disappointment he sometimes feels in himself.  I can only imagine what it feels like to for a strong, independent man to suddenly need assistance with things he once did without a second thought.

But when I look at him, I still see the strong man I married.  His mobility may have changed, but my love for him has not.  When I said, "for better or for worse" I meant it--and today I am living those marriage vows one day at a at a time.

To my fellow caregivers, wives, husbands, and families supporting someone they love.  Have you ever watched a strong independent person you love begin to need your help?  Are you living through this journey right now? Learning to focus on me has been one of the hardest parts of my journey.  I am naturally a caring and loving person, and my love language is giving.  I'm so used to caring for my husband, making sure he has what he needs, and putting others first that when it's time to focus on myself, I feel guilty.

Sometimes I sit in that spa chair or get a facial and wonder, Do I really deserve this? Should I be somewhere taking care of someone else? Am I worthy of this moment?

But I'm slowly learning that self-care is not selfish--it's therapeutic.  Taking time for myself helps restore my mind, body, and spirit.  I'm learning that I can love my husband deeply, care for the people around me, and still make room for Renee.

I deserve moments to rest.  I deserve to breathe.  I deserve to be cared for, too.  And most importantly, I'm learning that taking care of myself helps me continue showing up for the people I love without completely losing myself.

When life gets hard, we look around and our tribe is always there--praying, texting, calling, showing up at hospital visits, and helping us get through treatments.  They may not be blood family, but God sent them into our lives for a reason.  Their love, faith, encouragement, and support remind us that we are not fighting alone.

When my husband's cancer returned, we expected our family to stand with us.   Instead, many never called, never texted, never visited and some even believed we were lying about his cancer diagnosis.  The heartbreak was real--but so was God's faithfulness.

God surrounded us with an incredible tribe of people who weren't related by blood, didn't grow up with us, and didn't know our story.  Yet they showed up during hospital visits, encouraged us through cancer treatments, prayed with us during scan, and stood beside us at doctor's appointments.  They became the family God knew we needed.

This episode is powerful reminder that family isn't always defined by blood---sometimes it's defined by love, loyalty, faith, and showing up when it matters most.

What happens when the people you expect to stand by your side don't believe your pain?

In this heartfelt episode, I share the heartbreaking reality our family's prostate cancer journey after we learned my husband's cancer had returned. Instead of receiving love, support, and encouragement. some of our own family members believed we were lying about his diagnosis.  Their disbelief, silence, and absence deeply wounded us during one of the hardest seasons of our lives.

But even in the middle of rejection, God never left us.  He reminded us that His presence, His peace, and His faithfulness are greater than the opinions of others.  When people walked away.  God stayed.
