"From the Frontlines" is an ADL podcast hosted by ADL New York/New Jersey Director Scott Richman. It focuses on ADL's efforts to fight hate and antisemitism in the United States and around the world.

While the word Zionism once evoked romantic images of making the desert bloom and young people folk dancing on the streets of Tel Aviv, for a widening circle of people, it has become something nefarious, evoking the infamous (long-ago rescinded) UN Resolution of 1975 equating Zionism with racism. How did this happen? The central questions seem to be what is Zionism and conversely what does it mean to be an anti-Zionist and -- most relevant post 10/7 -- is anti-Zionism actually a form of antisemitism? Since the Israel Hamas war, these questions have become even more pressing. Vlad Khaykin joined this podcast to unpack all of this with depth and insight. He is is ADL’s National Director of Antisemitism Programs.

Since that day, this podcast has been devoted to lifting up voices from Israel. Seven powerful podcasts were put out on this subject. In the wake of that terrible day, ADL has pivoted, not only to respond to the act, but also to the wave of antisemitic acts that followed. The new season of "From the Frontlines" will focus on this response from ADL beginning with the just launched “Not On My Campus Campaign” to combat antisemitism on campus. ADL’s Senior Director of Advocacy Shira Goodman joined the show to provide all of the details.

Since that terrible day, so much misinformation about the history of the conflict, the players, the geography and so on has been circulating. To set the record straight, ADL Deputy National Director Kenneth Jacobson was the featured guest on an ADL NY/NJ webinar on December 14, 2023. He has worked for ADL for more than 50 years and lived much of the history that is being discussed. On that webinar, ADL NY/NJ Regional Director and the host of this podcast, Scott Richman, asked him a series of his own questions and of those who tuned in to the webinar. Kenny's clear answers and great insight were so well received that a slightly edited version of that discussion is now being released as a two-part podcast.

This is part 2, and it focuses on the U.S.-Israel relationship, the prospect of a ceasefire, the history of Jews in the land of Israel, the legality of the State of Israel, the importance of Israel to the safety and security of Jews around the world, and Zionism, among other topics.

When we think of Ground Zero for those horrific acts, places like Kibbutz Nahal Oz, Kibbutz Beeri and the Nova music festival come to mind. What the people in these places went through is almost unspeakable, yet we must all bear witness to these war crimes by hearing their stories. Or Yelin was born and raised on Kibbutz Beeri and was there on that horrific day. He joined this podcast to tell his story and of course that of so many others, many of whom did not survive.

Since 1998, the NATAL organization has been responding to trauma in Israeli society, and their mission could not be more important today. Professor Rivka Tuval Mashiach join this podcast to describe NATAL’s work and what they have faced since the start of the Israel Hamas War. She is a clinical psychologist, a psychology professor at Bar Ilan University, and the Chairperson of NATAL's Professional Steering Committee.
