Leviticus 25 is the close of the Lord giving Moses His Law and Commandments on Mount Sinai (25:1). This chapter is a fascinating study in God requiring Israel to obey His Law, have faith in His promises, and His promise to bless His people, conditioned upon their obedience.

We are reminded that we are sojourners in this world, and temporal owners of the things we possess. The LORD instructed His people, “The land shall not be sold for ever: for the land is mine; for ye are strangers and sojourners with me” (25:23).

Today’s video devotional is the first in my chronological study of the Scriptures brings us to the Book of Numbers, the fourth of the five books known as the Pentateuch (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy). The author of Numbers is Moses, and the timeline setting is stated as the “first day of the second month, in the second year” following Israel’s exodus out of Egypt (Numbers 1:1).

The numbering of the children of Israel continues in today’s Scripture reading, with Numbers 3 giving us the census that was taken of the Tribe of Levi. The Levites were not numbered in the earlier census, which concentrated on counting the number of “able-bodied,” men of war in Israel twenty years and older. The census of the Levites was one that focused on “every male from a month old and upward” (3:15).

Numbers 4 addresses the number of men between the ages of 30 to 50 years old, in three Levite families, and their responsibilities regarding the Tabernacle and its vessels are considered.

Today’s devotional commentary continues our study of the Book of Numbers. In Numbers 6 we will consider the Nazarite vow of dedication, and the blessing the priests were to pray over the children of Israel when they brought their sacrifices to the Tabernacle. Number 7 records the dedication of the Tabernacle, all of its furnishings, and the sacrifices that were presented by each of the Twelve Tribes. I close today’s devotional with the Aaronic Blessing.

Though not perfect, those who serve the LORD, and minister to His people should aspire to a holy standard in life and practice, knowing the LORD requires no less of those who serve Him.
