George J. Romanik is a shareholder, team leader, and member of the leadership group at Kinney & Lange. He applies his extensive experience as an executive-level in-house intellectual property counsel to offer Kinney & Lange’s clients a broad range of advice regarding intellectual property and commercial law, business transactions, and related matters. George has a particular focus on IP protection and portfolio development (e.g., patents, trademarks, trade secrets, copyrights), IP transactions (licensing and other commercial transactions), and information technology support (licensing, outsourcing, and other IT matters).

Before joining Kinney & Lange, George was Associate General Counsel, Intellectual Property at Chemtura Corporation (now LANXESS Solutions US) where he led the in-house intellectual property team. George began his legal career at United Technologies Corporation, where he served in a number of positions over the course of 21 years, notably as Chief Intellectual Property Counsel for both the Pratt & Whitney and Hamilton Sundstrand (now part of UTC Aerospace Systems) divisions. George also served as counsel to Pratt & Whitney’s information technology organization.

George holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from Lehigh University (Bethlehem, PA) and a JD from the University of Connecticut School of Law (Hartford, CT). He splits his time between the firm’s office in Minneapolis and residence in Connecticut where he is available to meet directly with the firm’s clients in the Northeast.

Zayna Khayat is Future Strategist with SE Health (formerly, Saint Elizabeth Health Care) a health and social impact enterprise with a major focus on creating a better future for aging adults in their homes and communities. Zayna is Faculty of Singularity University’ Exponential Medicine stream, and is adjunct faculty in the Health Sector Strategy stream at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. Dr. Khayat was previously the lead of health system innovation at MaRS Discovery District, a health innovation hub in Toronto, Canada. In 2017 she was seconded to the REshape Innovation Centre at Radboud university medical centre in the Netherlands. Zayna completed her Ph.D. in diabetes research from the University of Toronto (2001), followed by a career in strategy consulting, including as a Principal in the healthcare practice of The Boston Consulting Group (BCG). She currently resides in Toronto with her husband and three children and is proficient in French and Arabic languages.

Donal O’Connell - Donal O’Connell is the Managing Director of Chawton Innovation Services Limited, which offers consultancy in the areas of innovation and intellectual property management.
Donal is a former VP of R&D and Director of IP at Nokia. In the US he was manager of Nokia R&D in Texas from 1997 to 2003, growing the site from scratch by recruiting and developing more than 600 engineers and developing and launching many successful products. More recently, from 2003 to 2009, Donal was a Director of IP at Nokia and was the leader of Nokia's Patent Creation team. During this time period he successfully managed several major change projects. Alongside the creation of new patents, the team was also responsible for third-party patent risk mitigation, IP Agent network management, and IP processes, systems and tools.
Donal has been a member of the Executive Board of the Eco Patent Commons initiative and Chair of the CPA Global Memotech IUG.
Donal has written two books: “Inside the Patent Factory” and, most recently, "Harvesting External Innovation," on the subject of collaborative innovation and IP, published by Gower in June, 2011.
Donal is an Adjunct Professor at Imperial College, London.
