i wanted to talk a little bit about reputation um for women reputation international reputation or local reputation but just the um the idea that lots of people know who you are and what you do for so many women it's actually um quite curtailing to be governed by this idea of reputation what do i look like um you know if you do the school run in your pajamas will you be judged that's the sort of basic level um and creating an image for yourself may be imperative in your business if you're a child entertainer for example you're going to probably want to have some sort of public persona uh if you're uh a teacher and teaching's another one where you know if you're doing anything that's in an advisory capacity you have to put yourself on some sort of pedestal and create some sort of um business reputation a view finder that people can look at you through and you're going to find that you know you can't there are certain things you can't do certain things you can't you shouldn't say because it's going to affect your business going to affect your bookings but actually most millionaires do not make their money through the self image as such it may be an accessory to the fact you know if you i mean if you are a banker and you set up an independent bank and then you invest in something that um you know destroys the planet or weaponry etc you you could very well affect your shares of course you know all of these things but i'm sort of getting a bit um lowered down the pecking order than that and starting at basics so if you're uh if you're making and distributing a new vegan biscuit you have to be very careful about the image that your brand has now that's a slightly different thing to the image that you have but the problem with for women not with women the problem for us is that we are often judged on um things that really we shouldn't be judged on in terms of business what we look like um are we uh you know i've talked about this before the reputation of the good mother the good um sexual um uh entity in terms of are you attractive are you frigid are you um putting it out too much all of these things you know these are all categories that you're going to be put in if you put yourself out there visually and that's what i really wanted to talk about today the the idea that what you look like seems possibly to be very important for a lot of women starting out in business we've got to be clean we've got to present a good image we've got to not be too [ __ ] not be too churchy all of these things so getting your public image is seemingly in this world of um the internet where the only window is through a computer screen um it's seemingly much more important than it ever used to be of course one photograph could be especially if it's ridiculed could go out to you know the world and that can lead to sometimes failure of your business so how do you circumnavigate that you need to be i think a little bit uh kenny about things just a little bit clever now you can have a public persona and you can actually remain very very private so you don't have to give everything away about who you are and you can definitely hide behind your brand your brand is more important than you are in terms of a tool a mechanism for drawing attention

definitely have people working on your campaigns it's much easier to have campaign managers than it is to even get into the you know the arena of of creating and managing your own um in the way that people judge you your own uh you know what you're giving off etc etc when you start doing it yourself it's very very complex and you start to um feel governed by things that are completely irrelevant um you know what's in the background of your picture what did you even think about you know the laundry in the background when you used...
