  • Tuning into our bodies through Culinary Nutrition with Marti Wolfson, MA Nutrition and Functional Medicine
This week's guest on the Full Capacity Living Podcast is Marti Wolfson, a culinary nutritionist. She has a Masters degree in Nutrition and Functional Medicine from the University of Western States, she is a health supportive chef and so much more.
Today  I get to share this beautiful conversation around bringing the science as well as the spiritual nature of food to our mind, body, spirit and plate.
We talk about rekindling intuitive eating, learning to trust ourselves with food but also cultivating curiosity and creativity with the food we choose to eat.
She tells us how she arrived into the work she does in the culinary nutrition world, her training at the very well known National Gourmet Institute with Ann Marie Colbin
Her work at the Canyon Ranch medical spa, The Blum Center for Health in NYC and her culinary practice currently.
We delve into foods that nourish your brain, how to cultivate this in your children and how to return to a loving and nourishing relationship to food.  Something that has been lost for many.

  • From Patient to Physician...Healing Chronic Fatigue Syndrome with Dr. Aunna Herbst
Dr. Aunna Herbst….my guest on today’s podcast. She graciously and vulnerably shares her personal story of chronic fatigue and literally pulling herself out of it through trial and error and tenacity. She talks about her journey through illness, into becoming a naturopath and then becoming an MD as well as one of the pioneers at the Center for Functional Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic to where she is now in her own blended clinic for primary care and functional medicine.
This conversation is inspiring and critically important for many reasons. We talk about chronic fatigue, what is missing from conventional medicine, how her book “Functional Medicine in Primary Care” hopes to bridge the gap between allopathic medicine and functional medicine as well as practical advice for those who are dealing with chronic fatigue and want to ask the right questions and get the right testing to find the root cause.
I am honored to have Aunna on my podcast and happy to reconnect with her after so many years. I know you will enjoy this conversation but also find it meaningful for you or anyone you know suffering with chronic fatigue and not finding the answers you seek.

  • How managing stress is the key to better health with Dr. Emily Roedersheimer
Here is a bit about Dr. Emily, what you will hear in the podcast and links for items mentioned during the conversation:
“I was originally drawn to medicine through my own life experiences. When I was 10 years old, I was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. After years of medications, injections and frustration, I came upon an article by Dr. Mark Hyman that discussed functional medicine and how it can reverse such conditions. The article talked about how the food we eat can either help us heal or harm us, and the impact of lifestyle choices on our health. By starting an anti-inflammatory diet and following other functional medicine principles, I was able to eliminate all of the prescription medications and am now in remission! Discovering that it was possible to reverse an autoimmune condition in this way, I wanted to learn what other benefits functional medicine had, and how I could spread this knowledge to others. I was on a mission! So, I started my training through the Institute for Functional Medicine and have received my certification (IFMCP) after years of hard work.”
In this podcast Dr. Emily shares her personal story, her journey to functional medicine and the one component in the functional medicine philosophy of treatment that is absolutely critical to address to improve overall health….STRESS!! Dr. Emily states “If stress is high I can give supplements all day long but nothing is going to change”
We talk about how stress affects the body, the gut microbiome and leaky gut, appropriate testing, adaptogenic herbs, lifestyle tools to shift the stress response, mindset shift and learning to listen to your body and how trauma and chronic stress can stay in your body and how to address that as well.
