In October of 2023, authorities in Penrose, CO received a call about an abhorrent smell coming from the Return to Nature Funeral home. The owners, Jon and Carie Hallford agreed to meet them at the door. Instead, they fled to Oklahoma, where they were arrested weeks later, and charged with 260 counts of fraud, theft, forgery, and abuse of a corpse.
