Eron & Josh briefly discuss the impact of the January 2022 snow storm that halted travel in the DC, MD, VA area. On this Martin Luther King Jr Day, Eron cites the 1967 "Where do we go from here" speech and how conservatives get MLK wrong when they cherry pick "I Have a Dream". Josh discusses his recent experience speaking at a local school board meeting, the talking points being pushed at these meetings, and the types of parents showing up. The hosts try to make sense of the parent's motivations to ban Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), ban books, control teacher professional development, and remove politics from the classrooms using Republican/conservative ideas as justification.
Topics mentioned: MLK, survival/preparedness, Ron DeSantis, Critical Race Theory, DEI, Equity vs Equality, Winsome Sears, Redlining, school boards
Eron & Josh are back from the holiday break and have survived the recent East Coast snow storm. Today's episode brings special guest Ray Beshirs of Blue Shield Tactical Systems who is a former Texas law enforcement officer and his company provides a wide array of training to law enforcement across the country. He provides subject matter expertise in the area of police escalation/de-escalation and provides insight into what police may be thinking in different citizen interactions. We are fortunate to gain his insight as many law enforcement officers are not willing to be interviewed on these topics.
Topics mentioned: www.blueshieldtactical.com, public affairs, role of police officers, risk vs threat, defund the police, mental health, 1st Amendment audit, police culture, Cardi B
Eron & Josh deep dive the topics of Critical Race Theory (CRT) and Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) with Dr. Chanelle Rose, Associate Professor of History at Rowan University in New Jersey. CRT is a graduate-level study not being taught in K-12 schools nor is it included in state curricula. Opponents of CRT use this false talking point to attack and remove DEI from schools which keeps kids in the dark and sends them into the world ill-equipped to discuss race and make meaningful contributions toward racial harmony.
Topics discussed: CRT, DEI, Crip Camp on Netflix, Southlake, Texas Podcast, school boards, the N word, BLM, George Floyd, Moms for Liberty
Eron & Josh recap the events leading up to and following the Oxford High School shooting in Michigan. The shooter's parents have been charged with multiple counts of involuntary manslaughter and the allegations against them do not look good. This school shooting also sheds light on gun culture in America with respect to responsible gun ownership and safe gun storage laws at the state level.
The hosts explore the topic of safe schools with respect to school shootings and Critical Race Theory (CRT). If parents want school to be a safe environment for their children, then they need to take action and speak up about gun violence and Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI).
Topics discussed: Oxford, gun violence, gun culture, Everytown, gun storage laws, safe schools, CRT, DEI
Eron & Josh discuss the Ahmaud Arbery guilty verdict and closing thoughts on the Kyle Rittenhouse not guilty verdict. Critics of the Rittenhouse verdict may have been hoping for the jury to send a message to society that vigilantism by a white shooter against BLM protestors is not acceptable.
The most important lesson from the Ahmaud Arbery trial is that it would never have been prosecuted had it not been for corruption by the first prosecutor, Jackie Johnson, who is currently under indictment. Though racist intent was not explicitly prosecuted, the co-hosts lay out how the Defendants were racist in murdering Ahmaud Arbery.
Topics included: Kyle Rittenhouse, Ahmaud Arbery, reasonable doubt, vigilantism, systemic racism, Ben Shapiro, Confederacy, Karens
Eron & Josh discuss aspects of the trial that ultimately led to the acquittal of Kyle Rittenhouse. They provide firsthand knowledge of what it is like being in a courtroom, their military experience relevant to safe firearms handling, and parts of Rittenhouse's testimony that may have affected the jury. The hosts go in on Rittenhouse for his lack of firearms knowledge and testimony that showed he was careless and incompetent in possessing an AR-15.
Topics included: 2nd amendment, Kyle Rittenhouse, military training, firearms safety, Kenosha, vigilantism, AR-15
Eron & Josh discuss the Virginia Gubernatorial election outcome which saw the blue state turn red for Republicans. A key determining factor was the characterization of Critical Race Theory (CRT) and the hosts discuss the role of CRT in the midterm elections.
The other topic is the Kyle Rittenhouse and Ahmaud Arbery murder trials. The racial makeup of the juries matter in different ways for each trial. Video evidence in both trials is critical for juries to deliver justice.
Topics discussed: Virginia, McAuliffe, Youngkin, Critical Race Theory, jury selection, Ahmaud Arbery, Kyle Rittenhouse, legal reform
Eron & Josh are both combat veterans and share more stories of their time in the warzone. If you like saying, "Thank you for your service" to veterans then you won't want to miss this episode. The hosts also honor SFC Paul Ray Smith, Medal of Honor recipient.
