In the fifth episode of the FilDiwan podcast, writer and journalist Omar Taher talks about his beginnings in journalism and how that experience influenced his later writing across different forms — from articles, poetry, and stories to novels and screenplays.

He discusses his first book, “Shaklaha Bazet”, how it opened the door for other works in the same genre, and why he chose satirical literature in particular.

Taher also talks about the craft of writing and his experience with documentary books such as “Sanay‘eyet Masr” and “Iza‘at Al-Aghani”, explaining how these works represented a different kind of writing compared to his earlier ones, and how “Sanay‘eyet Masr” changed when adapted into a TV series.

Our guest, economist and politician Ziad Bahaa El Din, is one of the founders of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party. He previously served as Chairman of the Egyptian Financial Supervisory Authority and as Minister of International Cooperation in the 2013 government. Since 2019, he has held the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Bank of Alexandria.

Throughout his career, he has combined academic work as a lecturer in law with professional practice as a lawyer and consultant specializing in banking legislation. He has also founded civil society organizations focused on legal and community support.
