In this episode, we continued our discussion on walking in the Spirit, with a focus on being led by the Spirit of God.

It is impossible for a believer to walk in the Spirit without being led by the Spirit of God. The real man is the spirit of the man, and the Holy Spirit dwells in the spirit of the believer. This is how God communicates with man—through the spirit of the man. The Spirit bears witness with our spirits, not through our senses, minds, or bodies.

Our pastor reiterated that one of the reasons we are unable to discern what is coming from our spirit is because we are often more body-conscious than spirit-conscious. The Holy Spirit does not lead us through our emotions, senses, circumstances, or coincidences. In order to discern His leading, we must become more conscious of our spirit.

There are various ways the Holy Spirit can lead us, including the inward witness, the inward voice, prophecies, visions, and angels. However, the ultimate standard for every leading is the Word of God. The Holy Spirit will never lead us to do something that contradicts the Word of God.

The primary way God leads us is through the inward witness. This is when the Spirit bears witness with our spirit. The inward witness is a spiritual perception produced by the Holy Spirit. It can manifest as peace, confidence, restraint, a warning, or a lack of peace. An example of the inward witness can be found in Acts 27:10, where Paul said that he perceived that their journey would result in danger and loss. The word “perceived” in this verse conveys the idea of an inward witness. The inward witness is often not dramatic; it is usually simply a spiritual perception or knowing within us.

Another way the Holy Spirit leads us is through the inward voice. With the inward voice, you know what the voice is saying. However, we can sometimes become more focused on the dramatic aspect of hearing the voice because we hear people say things like, “The Holy Spirit told me this” or “The Holy Spirit told me that.” But the main purpose of the Holy Spirit speaking to us is not for us to show others that He speaks to us. The Holy Spirit speaks to us so that we can obey Him. It is not merely about hearing what the Holy Spirit says; it is about responding to His leading through obedience.

Regardless of how God chooses to lead us, we must be willing to obey. Every leading must also be tested against Scripture. First John 4:1 instructs believers to test the spirits, which is why we need to be well-versed in the Word of God. We cannot accurately discern spiritual leadings if we do not know what Scripture says.

There are several things we can consider when discerning whether a leading is from the Holy Spirit. Every leading of the Spirit must agree with the Word of God. We should ask ourselves whether the leading contradicts any clear commandment or principle of Scripture. We should also consider what fruit the leading produces and ask whether it is truly the Holy Spirit or simply our own personal desire. We must also examine whether our hearts were sufficiently quiet and still enough to discern the leading accurately.

We can become more sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit by meditating on the Word of God and practicing what we hear. We should not be merely hearers of the Word, but doers of the Word. We must allow the Word of God to take preeminence in our hearts and learn to obey quickly when we recognize a prompting from the Spirit. We must also learn to walk in love.

Our emotions, minds, senses, and circumstances should never replace spiritual discernment. We must give ourselves continually to the Word of God and learn to obey the promptings of the Spirit. As we become more conscious of our spirit, grounded in the Word, and quick to obey the Holy Spirit, we become better equipped to discern His leading. This is how we can walk effectively in the Spirit

In this episode, we continued our discussion on what it means to walk in the Spirit.

Our pastor reiterated that walking in the Spirit is a function carried out by the soul. The body engages with the physical, while the soul engages with the spiritual. Just as the body has legs, hands, eyes, ears, and other faculties, so does the soul.

To accurately divide the Scripture and understand which verses refer to the spirit, soul, or body, we must first have a proper understanding of man as a tripartite being. Man is a spirit, he has a soul, and he lives in a body.

The way the soul follows its lord is through the voice it responds to. It is possible to be born again and yet follow the voice of Satan. Some of these voices may not be be heard audibly, but they can be innately understood and can sponsor or influence our actions. Jesus said:

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27

When you hear and follow the voice of Jesus, you demonstrate that you are His sheep.

The Bible repeatedly uses the picture of sheep in relation to God's people. Man naturally has a sheep-like nature; he desires to belong to a fold. This is why we often seek out people who share our ideas, interests, values, and perspectives. We naturally seek a sense of belonging. This reflects the sheep nature of man.

The Lord Jesus is the Bishop of our souls, and He sets pastors to oversee the souls of the saints: “For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.” 1 Peter 2:25

It is because of the soul of man that God lights the candle.

(Proverbs 20:2)And when a man is quickened from the dead, it is God who gives life.

Before being born again, the soul was dead in trespasses and sins. After being born again, the soul becomes lost in the sense that it must be continually redirected and renewed toward Christ. The gospel is what helps to reroute the soul of man back to Christ and establish it in the right pathway.

The act of walking in the Spirit is associated with a pathway. A way or pathway connects you to a destination or place. Jesus said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”John 14:6 Jesus is the Way. Therefore, walking in the Spirit is not merely an abstract or mysterious experience; it is about walking in the pathway that leads us into Christ and toward the Father.

The Holy Ghost, Christ, and the Father are not merely ideas we learn about; Scripture speaks of our relationship with them in terms of being in them and abiding in them. So, that are places in the spirit.

Finally, being in the Spirit comes through teaching and knowledge. Being in the Spirit is not something mysterious that exists outside of our everyday lives. It is demonstrated in the way we live.

Conversations such as forgiving others, obeying authority, loving our brothers and sisters, walking in obedience, and responding correctly to the Word are all behaviors that demonstrate a person who is walking in the Spirit. The more we give ourselves to the Word and yield to the Holy Ghost, the more our souls are directed toward Christ and trained to recognize and follow His voice.

In this episode our pastor continued his teaching on the Resurrection of the dead series.

In this episode of Seniors & Grad Brethren Meeting, we took a closer look at examining the world and its divisions. It was reestablished that the present evil world is the devil’s handiwork. This world offers men pleasures and comforts that keep them occupied and prevent them from pursuing God. We have to overcome not only the present evil world, but also the god of this world, which is Satan.

We saw that God also has His own world, with which we overcome this present evil world. Coming into this world first begins with receiving the word of Christ via the gospel, then we journey to having the spirit, and ultimately, the life (John 6:63). In other words, we must journey from faith to hope to charity, which is the perfect man (Col. 3:14).

Additionally, if a man will overcome the god of this world, he must receive the salvation of his soul, or come into everlasting life (1 Pet. 1:9). Such a man has been fully healed in his soul (Jer. 17:4). Only then can he be given to eat of the tree of life, which is eternal life (Rev. 2:7).

Although faith comes by hearing, receiving faith goes beyond just knowing what the Bible says about a matter. It requires you to wait on scriptures in the place of prayer until you receive a word from God that gives you the assurance of what you are hoping for. We also learned that faith is not positive thinking or manifesting. Even though these principles apply to unbelievers, believers are expected to go before the Lord in prayer for their needs.

We saw that as we exercise our faith, it will grow. The Lord desires us to be well experienced in the realities of using faith for our natural needs. After which, he wants to introduce us to a higher level of faith: the faith of the Son. The faith of the Son, as described in Galatians 2:20, is what enables the believer to become like Jesus.
