Footage from Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan shows flatbed trailers moving UH-60 Black Hawks, including one with a shattered nose, broken cockpit glass, and debris, following overnight Iranian ballistic missile strikes. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed heavy damage to U.S. and Jordanian assets. The US claimed that Jordan intercepted 18 of 20 missiles, with the rest landing harmlessly, and U.S. officials reported minimal impact and no casualties. The numbers the US provided are not believable, and the video indicates that the damage was clear.

FUEL PRICES, PRECIOUS METALS

Escalating U.S. strikes on Iranian tankers amid the ongoing “war” have triggered sharp fuel price surges that will hit consumers at the pump and store. WTI crude jumped to $96.70 a barrel, up $5.69 or 6.3% from $91.01 a week earlier. Brent reached $101.50, gaining $5.87 or 6.1% from $95.63. Natural gas slipped to $2.81 per MMBtu. Gold rose to $4,410 an ounce (up ~1.8% weekly) and silver to $67.50 (up ~3.5% from $65). These energy spikes feed directly into higher gasoline, heating, and goods prices. LINK LINK

Israeli forces today used bulldozers to demolish 10 homes and animal shelters in the northern section of Khirbet al-Fakhit, a Palestinian community in Masafer Yatta south of Hebron. The UK Foreign Minister, Ed Milliband, just announced that the UK will “sanction” products coming in from Israeli interests in the West Bank. Typically, the sanctions motif is not examined properly. From a state-on-state POV, this UK move is valid, since the Israeli presence there, and everywhere in the Middle East that exists as a statist Zionist experiment, is illegitimate. On a deeper level, the existence of statism on the British side means that, as laudable as it might appear or be on a state-v-state level, the only way to police such a “sanctions” regime is by forcing UK taxpayers to pay for the policing of it. Make of this what you will, and we also can wonder why the UK is not sanctioning Israel over Gaza and Lebanon…

A full Act of Parliament is not required. The government can implement most of these measures using existing powers under the Sanctions and Anti-Money Laundering Act 2018 (SAMLA). SAMLA already gives ministers authority to make regulations (statutory instruments) that impose sanctions, including trade restrictions, import bans, asset freezes, and designations of individuals or companies. The government plans to use this framework to create a new comprehensive sanctions regime covering goods from settlements, services that support settlement expansion, and related activities. These regulations are expected to take 6–9 months to draft and come into force. Some steps can happen faster without new regulations:

• Immediate designations of extremist settlers and related entities use the existing Global Human Rights Sanctions Regulations 2020.

• Refusing certain arms and export licences uses current export-control powers.

• Strengthening the human-rights sanctions regime involves expanding the scope of existing regulations rather than starting from scratch.

The new regulations will be laid before Parliament and subject to parliamentary scrutiny (typically the made-affirmative procedure), but they do not need a new primary bill to become law. The advertising ban on settlement properties is also expected to form part of this package of secondary legislation. LINK

A new Brown University report estimates the U.S. war on Iran has cost American consumers an extra $100 billion in fuel expenses this year. The Climate Solutions Lab’s Iran War Energy Cost Tracker measures added gasoline and diesel spending since fighting began February 28, 2026. Disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, which normally handles about 20 percent of global oil, drove the surge. Gasoline prices rose 39 percent to $4.15 a gallon, while diesel reached a record $5.90. That extra burden equals roughly $765 per household. Texas, California, and Florida have paid the largest statewide totals. The running cost is still climbing by about $1 million every two minutes. Rolling annualized returns on Treasuries dropped negative after yields rose sharply from a low 2.32% starting point a decade ago, driven by inflation and Federal Reserve tightening that erased price gains. Real returns after inflation sit near -5.14%, the second-worst period on record. While some see higher current yields around 4.8% for 10-year notes as a buying opportunity, the shift ends the low-rate era and stresses portfolios reliant on bonds as safe havens.

This “adjusted for inflation” item does not mean that this is “above” the price-inflation rate. It means that price inflation at 3.5-3.8 % (which is the rough US govt number, and is about 7 points too low) is outpacing wage growth.

It revives command economies linked to authoritarianism and fascism. This fusion of state and industry historically enabled aggressive regimes. Pro-peace advocates reject this militarization, calling instead for diplomacy that ends wars rather than supplying them. Free markets thrive on peace and prosperity, not endless armament.
In a similar fashion, European politicians are pushing their economies towards what they think will be “salvation” - Military Keynesianism. Let’s again look at Germany:
Volkswagen Plant Deal Advances Israeli Defense Production: On September 7, 2026, Volkswagen announced the sale of its Osnabrück factory to Tel Aviv-based Aurelius Capital and Lower Saxony. Iran responded by striking unauthorized tankers and a U.S. naval drone. Washington’s latest aggression against Iran’s economy continues a pattern of escalation that ignores Iranian sovereignty. These kinetic strikes risk wider war, endanger shipping, and harm civilians. Supporters of peace reject American military dominance in the Gulf and call for the U.S. to withdraw its forces and lift its blockade so diplomacy can replace bombs.

Francesca Albanese, the UN special rapporteur on Palestinian territories, warned that Israeli-controlled rubble removal in Gaza threatens evidence of international crimes, including genocide, and the recovery of over 10,000 bodies still buried under debris. She pointed to a recent recovery of 112 family members’ remains from a 2023 strike in Gaza City, recovered over 17 days, as proof that careful efforts work.

The Saudis not only are strangling themselves, they run the risk of being purged from the SCO. Kinetic strikes between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Ansar Allah Houthis intensified over the weekend, after Saudi forces bombed Sanaa airport on July 13, ending a 2022 truce. Today, Ansar Allah reported a Saudi airstrike hitting a prison in Hazm, al-Jawf province, killing seven including a child visitor and wounding seven others. Airstrikes also struck al-Bayda, Marib and Taiz. Houthis claimed they downed Saudi drones over al-Jawf and hit incoming Saudi weapons trucks at Al-Wadiah camp in Hadramaut with ballistic missiles, releasing footage. Spokesman Yahya Saree said Saudi attacks, including the al-Jawf strike, would not go unanswered. On September 6 Houthis released video of a ballistic missile striking a meeting of Saudi-backed military leaders, showing vehicles burning.

The Federal Trade Commission and 22 states have filed a new lawsuit accusing Amazon of secretly inflating prices in its online advertising auctions. The case will be heard in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington in Seattle. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards retaliated Saturday by hitting three oil tankers using unauthorized Hormuz routes plus three U.S.-affiliated vessels elsewhere. This daily mass slaughter of innocent civilians continues even under a so-called ceasefire. The people of Gaza have suffered enough after years of war and blockade. Jobs - As we discussed Friday on LCL, the federal numbers are not to be believed

Not good. Older groups typically have spent less, and saved/invested more. Now, boomers are spending, have the bulk of the savings, and the other groups are economically foundering.

Nike ($NKE) is being removed from the S&P 100 effective September 21, 2026, after an approximately 80% drop from its 2021 all-time high, ending an 18-year run in the index and erasing roughly $230 billion in market cap. The stock closed at $38.40, a level not seen in about 12 years, driven by stagnant revenue growth, shrinking margins, and persistent headwinds in Greater China due to tariff battles and market splits accelerated by the tariff fights. As part of the quarterly rebalance, Nike is replaced by tech firms including Dell Technologies, Palo Alto Networks, Arista Networks, and Sandisk, all of which are more directly benefitted by US government “investment” in the tech sector and AI. Not a good sign.

Nike accounted for the largest drop. Its fiscal-year revenue fell from $51.36 billion (FY2024, ended May 2024) to $46.31 billion in FY2025, then stayed essentially flat at $46.40 billion in FY2026. That is a roughly $5 billion decline in annual sales, concentrated in the first of the two years. Under Armour also lost ground. Revenue dropped from $5.70 billion in FY2024 to $5.16 billion in FY2025 and $4.97 billion in FY2026, a two-year decline of about $730 million. North America weakness was the main driver. VF Corporation saw a smaller net decline. Sales went from $9.92 billion in FY2024 to $9.50 billion in FY2025, then recovered slightly to $9.61 billion in FY2026 (partly due to currency and mix after the Dickies sale). The two-year net loss was roughly $300 million. Gap Inc. and Ralph Lauren moved in the opposite direction. Gap’s revenue rose modestly from $14.89 billion (FY2024) to $15.37 billion (FY2026). Ralph Lauren grew from $6.63 billion to $8.11 billion over the same period. PVH hovered in the $8.7–9.0 billion range with mixed year-to-year results. The pattern is that Nike and some athletic/lifestyle brands lost sales while off-price retailers, certain specialty names, and Amazon gained share. Tariffs, weaker demand in key markets (especially China for Nike), and inventory/pricing issues were common explanations cited by the companies that declined.

The Justice Department this week told a Manhattan judge that training AI on copyrighted news is fair use, not infringement… Of course “fair” is defined by the government, not through private contract by each individual, so one can see the problem of trying to handle Intellectual Property claims via statute or government court…
In an ongoing New York Times case against OpenAI and Microsoft, the brief says copies extract statistical patterns rather than republish expression, and that “national security” (again, that Play Doh term the polis-players employ for their own purposes, destroying your own freedom to define for yourself what makes you secure, and, thus, undermining your actual security) requires American AI models to keep learning from the text.
The Department of Justice is the state entering a private fight, wrapping a copyright monopoly and a security argument around favored firms. Published words should be governed by private contract, license, and access terms alone. If a publisher sells training rights, pay them. If it posts openly, it has no claim to conscript the courts, and the courts have no claim to demand anyone’s money. The only way to handle property trades and protection against reuse is to engage in private agreements stipulating such. North American Blue Energy Partners (NABEP) is the privately held company granted the concessions to operate the 17 Venezuelan oil fields (estimated at around 65 billion barrels of reserves) under the recently announced U.S.-Venezuela arrangement. It is headquartered in Barbados with offices in Venezuela (Caracas, Maracaibo, and Lechería). NABEP is described as Venezuela’s second-largest private oil producer, currently outputting around 180,000–200,000 barrels per day from existing assets, primarily mature fields around Lake Maracaibo. It plans to invest up to $100 billion to rehabilitate and expand production, targeting as much as 1.5 million barrels per day over time. The company already operates some of the fields involved and will take over others previously run by Chinese and Russian firms. LINK

The U.S. Department of War (curiously appropriate, now used for the Department of Defense) Office of Strategic Capital receives rights to a 35% stake in NABEP’s corporate parent. This is structured as “penny warrants” (the right, but not the obligation, to buy equity at a token price later), designed as an anti-dilution mechanism so the U.S. can capture 35% of the project’s value at maturity without being diluted by interim capital raises. The U.S. also gets dividends in the meantime, veto power over “board appointments” (a majority of directors must be U.S. citizens), and the State Department has the right to buy 20% of output at production cost plus first refusal on the remaining 80%. The arrangement is governed by U.S. law. Note that Venezuela’s government has described the project as a 25-year arrangement, and Venezuelan hydrocarbons law generally caps such deals at 25 years plus a possible 15-year extension. No full contract text has been released.
Who runs NABEP?
NABEP is controlled by Venezuelan businessman Alejandro Betancourt López (also referred to as Leopoldo Alejandro Betancourt López), who serves as CEO. He is 46 years old (born February 1980 in Caracas). He previously co-founded Derwick Associates (an energy contractor) and has other investments, including in the Spanish sunglasses brand Hawkers (more on that, below!) and past stakes in oil companies like Pacific Exploration & Production. NABEP was founded in April 2024 by Betancourt, co-founded with Florida oil tycoon and Republican donor Harry Sargeant III. Sargeant later sold his stake (around August 2026), leaving Betancourt in control. The company’s existing operations built on earlier assets Betancourt acquired, including a stake in the Petrozamora joint venture with PDVSA starting around 2011. NABEP scaled production significantly in a short time through company-funded investment.
Betancourt has a long record of doing business with Venezuelan governments dating to the Hugo Chávez era. He often is described as one of the “Bolichicos”—a group of politically connected young businessmen who obtained large no-bid government contracts. Derwick Associates received multiple power-plant contracts (reportedly totaling around $5 billion) without competitive bidding; critics, including Transparency Venezuela, alleged significant overcharging. He and associates have faced investigations in multiple countries (U.S., Spain, Switzerland, and others) related to alleged money laundering, embezzlement, bribery of PDVSA officials, and currency-exchange schemes involving billions of dollars from Venezuela’s state oil company. He was arrested in the UK in 2025 on warrants from Spain and Switzerland and faced travel restrictions. Some cases in Venezuela were dismissed; he has not been charged in the U.S. Spanish proceedings were dismissed then reopened; Swiss probes have involved asset freezes. U.S. prosecutors recently closed a related Miami investigation amid the oil deal, and reports indicate U.S. officials engaged with foreign counterparts regarding the probes. Betancourt and his representatives have consistently denied all wrongdoing, calling accusations politically motivated. Critics argue the lack of a competitive bidding process for the new 17-field concessions and his past associations raise questions about transparency and potential conflicts. LINK The deal remains in early stages with limited public documentation, and independent verification of reserve figures and long-term enforceability is limited.
Alejandro Betancourt López (often misspelled as Allejandro Bettancourt) has faced investigations in multiple countries over more than a decade, primarily tied to alleged corruption, money laundering, and diversion of funds from Venezuela’s state oil company PDVSA. He has never been formally charged or convicted in any jurisdiction and consistently denies wrongdoing, describing the probes as politically motivated or based on associations with other “Bolichicos” (politically connected Venezuelan businessmen). His lawyers emphasize that Venezuelan courts previously examined related matters and found no crime.
Legal problems by country - THE US:
A long-running Justice Department investigation (sometimes linked to “Operation Money Flight”) examined an alleged scheme that embezzled more than $1 billion from PDVSA through loans, currency-exchange manipulations, and laundering via Miami real estate and other channels. Several associates, including Betancourt’s cousin Francisco Convit, were charged and convicted. Betancourt himself was never charged. In 2026, Miami federal prosecutors closed the investigation on orders from senior Trump administration Justice Department officials (including then-Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche). This occurred as the administration sought Betancourt’s help on the Venezuela oil deal. A 2013 civil lawsuit by former U.S. Ambassador Otto Reich alleging bribes for contracts was dismissed years later. LINK
SPIN IN SPAIN
Spain’s Audiencia Nacional (National Court) has investigated Betancourt and associates for alleged money laundering and tax fraud involving a PDVSA currency-exchange scheme estimated at $4.85 billion, including claimed $42 million in bribes to three PDVSA officials. The case originated from a Swiss legal-assistance request. In September 2025, a Spanish arrest warrant led to his detention in London; he was questioned by video and released. Judge Santiago Pedraz dismissed the case in March 2026, citing prior Venezuelan court findings. In June 2026, a higher chamber reopened it as “premature,” arguing key aspects remained unresolved. Spanish police raided his Alamín Castle property in Toledo. The investigation remains active. LINK
SWITZERLANKS
The Zurich public prosecutor’s office has investigated Betancourt since around 2019 for suspected commercial money laundering, alleging hundreds of millions of dollars (reports cite around $500 million in some accounts) were diverted from PDVSA and moved through Swiss accounts and structures. An international arrest warrant was issued. He was arrested in the UK in November 2025. Switzerland requested extradition from Britain; that request was withdrawn in May 2026 due to “particularities of British extradition law,” according to Zurich prosecutors, but they stated the underlying criminal investigation continues and they sought detention elsewhere. Swiss authorities also requested his arrest in the United States, which the U.S. did not act on. After Maduro’s capture in January 2026, Switzerland froze assets of dozens of people linked to the former regime, including Betancourt. U.S. officials reportedly contacted Swiss authorities regarding the case. The probe remains open. LINK

Betancourt has resided in the UK (properties in Chelsea and the Cotswolds). He was arrested twice in 2025—first on the Spanish warrant, then on the Swiss one. He was released on bail with travel restrictions and passport surrender. After Switzerland withdrew its extradition request in May 2026, a London court lifted the travel ban. He has Italian citizenship in addition to Venezuelan. LINK

Domestic Venezuelan investigations related to PDVSA and Derwick Associates contracts were dismissed. Andorra has been mentioned in some reports of related probes. Derwick Associates (co-founded by Betancourt) faced earlier U.S. scrutiny over banking laws and alleged overcharging on no-bid power-plant contracts totaling billions under the Chávez government. Ties to Marco Rubio
Secretary of State Marco Rubio has publicly defended the U.S. partnership with Betancourt and NABEP. In interviews, Rubio cited three main reasons: Betancourt’s “ability to increase oil production in Venezuela,” the absence of any current U.S. criminal charges or investigations against him (because the feds abruptly DROPPED the charges, despite there being oodles of reasons to charge him), and Betancourt’s past support for the Venezuelan opposition against Nicolás Maduro (including during the 2019 recognition of Juan Guaidó). Rubio noted that this opposition stance put Betancourt “in a very, very bad place with Maduro.” In other words, he likely has been tied to US intel for years.
After U.S. forces captured Maduro in January 2026, Betancourt helped persuade interim President Delcy Rodríguez to speak with Rubio. U.S. officials close to Rubio, including former special envoy Mauricio Claver-Carone, have described using Betancourt as a bridge because of his knowledge of the oil sector in both countries. Rubio and other administration officials pressed the Justice Department to resolve the U.S. probe and engaged with Swiss authorities. Ties date to Trump’s first term, when Betancourt supported opposition efforts. Rubio has acknowledged perception issues but emphasized vetting and the need for a capable operator on the ground. LINK

…The US killed 200 people without trial in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific prior to attacking Venezuela. The US pursued multiple tankers, contrary to any portion of the US Constitution and contrary to international maritime law. The US - without any Constitutional Declaration of War - has attacked numerous nations and killed thousands of civilians under Trump, alone, be it through direct kinetic attacks such as the school in Minab, Iran, or Yemen (where the US hit a cancer ward, in addition to other civilian targets) or by providing technical and arms assistance to proxies. The faux upset Mr. Vance displays also glosses over trade route disputes btwn China and the Philippines.

On August 24, Israeli aircraft struck a site in Gaza City’s Sheikh Radwan neighborhood. Palestinian officials, residents, and multiple news outlets reported that the strike destroyed a recently built or recently operating desalination plant that had been supplying water to local families and displacement shelters. Separately, on September 2, 2026, Israel’s national water company Mekorot halted pipeline water deliveries to Gaza for at least that day. This occurred while five of Israel’s six Mediterranean desalination plants were offline because of an algae bloom that made seawater too turbid to process. UNICEF said the halt contributed to shortages affecting nearly one million people in Gaza that day.

Headline: “August jobs report delivers unexpectedly strong news for US economy” LINK
The Bureau of Labor Statistics’ August 2026 Employment Situation report, showing a 162,000 rise in nonfarm payrolls, warrants skepticism. The monthly Current Employment Statistics survey repeatedly has overstated job growth, later requiring large downward revisions. The February 2026 annual benchmark cut March 2025 payroll employment by 898,000. A preliminary benchmark issued August 28 subtracted another 79,000 jobs through March 2026. These corrections followed months of overly high monthly figures throughout 2025 and early 2026.A growing share of adults has also stopped looking for work. Labor-force participation stood at 61.6 percent in August, down from 62.3 percent a year earlier. Seasonally adjusted data show more than two million additional people outside the labor force compared with August 2025. Because they are not actively seeking jobs, they do not appear in the official unemployment rate, which held steady at 4.1 percent. The headline payroll total further inflates the appearance of strength by treating every position the same. It does not separate full-time from part-time work and does not disclose how many counted jobs are second or third positions held by one person. Household-survey tables reveal 8.5 million multiple jobholders, or 5.2 percent of the employed. Another 4.4 million people worked part time for economic reasons. These details sit in secondary tables rather than the lead figure, allowing the official release to project more robust job creation than the underlying composition supports.Combined with earlier overstatements that later needed sizable downward adjustments, the decline in labor-force attachment and the mixing of part-time and multiple jobs in the headline number suggest the latest gain should be interpreted cautiously.

Here is a great example of how politicians choose data to fit certain expedient narratives. The August 2026 employment report (released today) showed total nonfarm payrolls rising 162,000 and manufacturing adding 16,000 jobs, continuing what BLS described as an upward trend of 58,000 manufacturing jobs since a December 2025 low. Lincicome’s post (below) and the accompanying QCEW chart highlight a large discrepancy between that monthly Current Employment Statistics (CES) survey and the more comprehensive Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages. QCEW, built from near-universal unemployment-insurance tax records rather than a sample, recorded a 159,000-job manufacturing decline from March 2025 to March 2026. The monthly CES figures for the same span showed a much smaller drop (around 68,000–75,000). Because CES is a sample that is later benchmarked to QCEW, the earlier understatement of losses raises the possibility that the recent CES uptick in manufacturing employment is also overstated and could be revised downward once later QCEW data are incorporated. Lincicome himself noted a possible summer rebound while emphasizing that the gold-standard numbers showed no tariff-driven manufacturing jobs boom in the prior year.

This week, we saw the US announce an absurd fascist “public-private partnership” to get a 35% share in Venezuelan oil output plus a guaranteed 20% of the gross. There’s a new wrinkle here… Scott Lincicome’s post highlights Congress quietly rejecting legislation that would have explicitly authorized the Pentagon/OSC to take equity stakes in private companies. He argues this should render the existing deals (including the Venezuela one) void or unlawful, given OSC’s original statutory mandate focused on loans, loan guarantees, and technical assistance for critical technologies rather than equity ownership or oil ventures. This week’s Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Bishkek marked a step toward genuine free trade and peace among nations, free from coercive blocs and weaponized finance. Leaders from China, Russia, India, Iran, and Central Asian states adopted the Bishkek Declaration and 28 documents promoting connectivity and economic cooperation without tariffs or exclusionary barriers. Central to the talks was the proposed SCO Development Bank. Though not yet launched, members agreed to accelerate founding documents. President Putin stressed it must remain independent of financial systems used as “weapons” for unilateral advantage—precisely the inflated fiat dollar and sanctions that choke trade and fuel warmongering. Already, over 98% of Russia’s $400 billion-plus trade with SCO partners occurs in national currencies. The bank would expand this, letting traders settle directly in rubles, yuan, rupees, or rials—bypassing the dollar, SWIFT, and sanctions that punish Iran and others. Kazakhstan offered to host its headquarters, focusing funds on infrastructure rather than speculation. LINK

Massie’s bill is a nice start, but government monitors of people, be they operating in real-time or recording for later use, are breaches of the 4th Amendment, AND the feds are not allowed to fund any local cops, anyway.

There IS no “opting out” of the state if the state claims power over you. All options are allowed or not allowed by the state, making them non-options, in reality.
