Last night on LCL, we discussed the flight of Bolsonaro from Brazil, how he was being welcomed by many in MAGA as a “political refugee”, and how this appears to be a double standard for those who take that position while simultaneously pushing for Trump’s unconstitutional ICE to kidnap and deport many lower-profile people who came to the US and were granted asylum or are in the process of seeking it. Here, on Dialogue Works, Larry Johnson offers his own intel knowledge to estimate that the Bolsonaro escape was facilitated, of course, by the CIA.

For your reference, here is some of what we got to discuss, last night, re the charges bought against Jair and Flavio B.

Bolsanaro Charges Pop and Son

Federal Police indicted Jair for embezzlement, money laundering, and criminal association over official gifts (jewelry, Rolex/Patek Philippe watches, Chopard items from Saudi Arabia and others) worth about R$6.8 million (~$1.2 million). Aides allegedly transported items abroad (including on the presidential plane), sold them in the US, and delivered cash; some pieces were later returned. The Prosecutor General archived the criminal case in 2026 citing the lack of clear law on ownership of presidential gifts, while affirming the facts occurred as investigated.

Flávio was accused in the “rachadinha” scheme of diverting over R$6 million from Rio state assembly staff salaries (via aide Fabrício Queiroz), with links to payments involving family of alleged militia figures. Higher courts annulled key evidence (Coaf reports, bank secrecy breaks) on procedural grounds related to forum privileges; the case was archived without a merits judgment. He has never been convicted.
In 2026, Flávio faces ongoing probes for corruption, money laundering, and tax evasion tied to tens of millions of reais (reports of ~R$61–134 million) from banker Daniel Vorcaro (arrested in a major fraud case) to finance a film about his father. Documents show transfers to a US fund linked to brother Eduardo, plus WhatsApp messages. The family denies wrongdoing and claims political persecution. Reports also document the family acquiring over 100 properties, dozens paid wholly or partly in cash.

A BIIIIG COURT BATTLE:

First, some context, from last night:
(NOTE: The Con-stitution claims that the states control the vote arrangements for the “chusing of their electors” for Pres.)

This post refers to a bipartisan amicus brief from 28 former governors (including Jerry Brown, Bill Weld, and Christine Todd Whitman) opposing the Trump DOJ’s lawsuit against California that, at that moment, saw the Trump DOJ pushing their “case” to the 9th Cir Ct.
The Trump Admin sought to segregate and not count mail ballots from ~20,000 voters flagged as likely noncitizens.

• The governors argued the federal action is an unlawful executive overreach that usurps states’ primary constitutional authority over election administration under the Elections Clause, risks disenfranchising eligible voters, and undermines free and fair elections.

• The filing supports California’s defense in United States v. California (Case No. 26-7231) amid recent court denials of the DOJ’s emergency requests for relief, as voting proceeds in the 2026 midterms.

• Remember, their US Constitution DOES allow Congress to pass laws re voting arrangements for House and Senate seats, but not for Prez.

AND… The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals today ruled 2-1 against the Justice Department’s emergency request to halt counting of mail ballots from individuals identified as likely noncitizens. The court found the government did not meet the legal standards for an injunction, marking the second denial of such relief in the case. Amid the lawsuit alleging violations of federal law, a separate judge ordered the DOJ to share its list with advocacy groups by day’s end, while grand jury subpoenas probe county election processes post-Election Day.
U.S. District Judge David O. Carter (Central District of California, Clinton appointee) about 36 hours ago denied the TRO in a strongly worded order . He called the request unprecedented, said it would “wreak havoc” on the ongoing election, create a chilling effect, risk disenfranchising eligible citizens, and violate longstanding principles of state control over elections under the Constitution. He also found the government’s allegations and list methodology “not credible,” noted problems with data matching (citing a similar Nevada situation where large claims of noncitizen voters largely collapsed), and pointed out that the DOJ already has tools like criminal prosecutions for noncitizen voting. He rejected claims of an emergency partly attributable to the government’s own timing. 9th Circuit Appeals

• An earlier emergency appeal (before Carter ruled) was dismissed for lack of jurisdiction as premature. The panel (including Trump and Biden appointees) noted the government had not given the district court a fair chance to act; some judges also expressed skepticism on the merits.

• After Carter’s denial, the DOJ appealed again. AND, today, a 9th Circuit panel again rejected the emergency request for an injunction pending appeal in a 2-1 ruling (majority: Judge Mark Bennett, a Trump appointee, and Judge Gabriel Sanchez, a Biden appointee; dissent by Judge Patrick Bumatay, a Trump appointee). The majority found the government failed to meet the high burden for such extraordinary relief during an ongoing election. They cited questions about the list’s reliability/methodology, the lack of a feasible way to segregate specific ballots without potentially “catastrophic effects” on the whole system, risks of disenfranchising eligible voters, and conflicts with the Elections Clause and laws like the National Voter Registration Act (which limits certain systemic changes close to an election). The dissent argued the remedy was modest and that the federal government was simply seeking to enforce the shared rule against noncitizen voting. LINK

As of the latest reporting, there is no confirmed filing or ruling at the U.S. Supreme Court. Multiple sources indicate the DOJ is expected to seek emergency relief from the Supreme Court given the proximity to Election Day. No results show such a filing having been made or acted on yet.

The Trump administration agreed to provide around $35 million in military aid, including armored personnel carriers, to Cameroon’s elite Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR), which faces accusations of abuses like beatings and drownings during anti-Boko Haram operations. This aid is part of a deal where Cameroon accepts third-country migrants deported from the U.S., with dozens already transferred since late last year. Critics, including Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, called the arrangement ‘grotesque,’ arguing it’s wrong to equip forces with poor human rights records to support deportations, but the don’t point out that the entire deportation paradigm is faulty and anti-constitutional. Senator Chris Murphy and attorney Robert Barnes both publicly have asserted that President Trump is preparing renewed attacks on Iran after the November 3 midterms, aimed in part at seizing or striking Kharg Island (Iran’s primary oil-export hub, handling roughly 90% of its crude) and possibly other Gulf islands.
Murphy posted on X on October 29 that Trump is “reportedly planning to restart war with Iran after the election,” that lawmakers have been briefed on the plan, and that it is “insane” and will trigger further escalation. He had earlier said on CBS’s Face the Nation that Trump was considering returning to war with Iran post-election. Barnes, a frequent critic of the Iran campaign, has discussed post-midterm escalation options in recent interviews (including with Judge Napolitano on October 26) and has been cited by sources linking the plan to island operations.
As with the blockade, the economic embargoes, the “seizure of funds” that occurred decades ago, the assassinations, and the attempts to fund rebels, as well as the previous military attacks, this potential operation would be utterly unconstitutional. Article I, Section 8 vests the power to declare war solely in Congress; no new authorization for offensive war against Iran has been enacted. Separately, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth fired Lt. Gen. Brett Sylvia, the Joint Staff’s top planner (J5), on or about October 28. The official explanation cites alleged classified leaks, but some observers, including commentary associated with Barnes, speculate he was removed because he opposed the escalation plan.

This is what came to Daniel Davis, live, today, as he received the information from Mr. Barnes.

Publicly held debt climbed to $32.2 trillion amid a $2 trillion deficit, with federal spending at $7.4 trillion and revenue at $5.4 trillion, or 6.2% of GDP. Interest payments topped $1 trillion for the year, rivaling major budget items like defense. The situation is, of course, unsustainable, with projections showing debt hitting 120% of GDP by 2036 under current policies, echoing post-World War II levels but driven by ongoing deficits.

SO, what entities or WHO are buying the artificially low US bonds (the rate of return is going to have to go way up to attract larger numbers of real investors)

A REPORT: As of NOW, WHO BUYS/HOLDS WHAT KINDS OF US DEBT INSTRUMENTS?

Official foreign demand has been notably softer in 2026. U.S.-aligned countries (by UN voting patterns) made net purchases of only ~$174 billion in longer-term Treasuries (excluding bills) in the first eight months of the year—the lowest for that period since 2021 and down more than 60% year-over-year. Japan’s net purchases were near zero (~$389 million), South Korea was a large net seller, and China continued reducing holdings. Private foreign investors and buyers in places like the UK, Hong Kong, and India have been more active; August 2026 saw strong private foreign inflows into long-term securities, but that just collapsed (hello, Scott Bessent!)…
In Treasury auctions, “indirect” bidders (a proxy that includes foreign central banks and many institutional investors) have been mixed—softer in shorter notes (e.g., ~46% in the late-October 2-year) but stronger in intermediate/long-term issues (often 70–80%+ in some 10-year auctions). Direct bidders (largely domestic institutions) have taken larger shares in some recent shorter-term auctions. Primary dealers (major banks such as JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Citigroup, etc.) facilitate auctions and absorb any residual, but end-investor demand has generally kept dealer takedown moderate. Those institutions also repeatedly have been recipients of federal bailouts.
Total U.S. public debt outstanding stood at about $40.4 trillion as of late October 2026. Of this, roughly $32.6 trillion was debt held by the public and $7.8 trillion was intragovernmental (mostly federal trust funds such as Social Security).
Overall Holder Breakdown (approximate, late 2026):

• Domestic private holders: ~$18.7 trillion (~46% of total debt). This includes mutual funds, money market funds, pension funds, insurance companies, banks, state/local governments, and households. These have absorbed the bulk of new supply as foreign official buying slowed.

• Foreign holders: ~$9.33 trillion (August 2026 TIC data; ~23% of total debt / ~29% of debt held by the public). Of this, foreign official (central banks/sovereigns) held ~$3.76 trillion; the rest is private foreign.

• Federal Reserve: ~$4.57 trillion (~11% of total / ~14% of public debt). Recent growth has been concentrated in Treasury bills for reserve management (bills up ~$370–375 billion over the past year).

Marketable Treasury securities (the vast majority of debt held by the public) as of end-September 2026 roughly broke down as:

• Notes (2–10 year fixed-rate): ~$16.3 trillion (largest share)

• Bills (<1 year, discount): ~$7.1 trillion

• Bonds (20–30 year fixed-rate): ~$5.5 trillion

• TIPS (inflation-protected): ~$2.2 trillion

• FRNs (2-year floating-rate notes): ~$0.7 trillion

Recent auction yields (as of now, late October, 2026) illustrate the rate environment:

• Bills: investment rates roughly 3.9–4.5%

• 2-year notes: ~4.71%

• 5-year notes: ~4.85%

• 7-year notes: ~4.89%

• 10-year notes: ~5.30% (recent reopening)

• 30-year bonds: ~5.62%

• TIPS real yields: roughly 2.3–3.0% depending on maturity

• FRNs: small discount margins over bill rates

The Fed’s recent purchases have been concentrated in short-term bills, while the broader market absorbs a mix of bills and longer-term coupon securities. Data on foreign holdings lag by about two months (latest detailed TIC is for August 2026). Holdings and auction shares are estimates subject to custodial attribution issues and can shift with market conditions.

• United Kingdom: $1,009.5 billion (up, first time above $1 trillion)

AND, given the fact that American earnings can’t keep up w price increases and people are pulling from their savings to buy every-day goods… This is important to note:

The ARTIFICIALITY of the AI “BOOM” is being transferred into the US “international trade deficit”. But it is important to remember that trade, by definition, means no deficit between the traders, and on a nation-state level, when US buyers have a relatively stronger currency than other nations, that incentivizes US buyers to buy abroad, and that money comes back to the US as a “current accounts” surplus in liquidity. You won’t hear pop media discussing the massive “investment surplus” when it comes to international trade.

AND this GDP number (which likely will be revised down next month) still is anemic.

Israel’s Election Ends in Deadlock; Unity Talks Loom
With roughly 85–96 percent of votes counted after Tuesday’s election, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing and religious bloc holds about 53 seats in the 120-member Knesset, while the opposition bloc led by Gadi Eisenkot’s Yashar party has about 48. Arab-led parties surged to a combined 19 seats. Neither side approaches the 61 seats needed for a majority. President Isaac Herzog will soon consult party leaders and assign the first mandate—likely to Netanyahu as head of the largest party—to form a government within 28 days. With both camps short of a majority and most Jewish parties having ruled out formal reliance on Arab lists, speculation has turned to a possible national unity government. The Defense Sec claims that every domestic base will develop its own energy supply, separate from other grids. This is going to be a big, big fascist payoff for contractors (who are suffering for lack of work now, with the economy tumbling) and will cost an astronomical amount not even calculated.

FORTRESS risks becoming a classic Pentagon pork boondoggle. No official total cost exists, yet the Army has already committed up to $2.2 billion just for experimental nuclear microreactors at five bases. Scaling independent power, water systems, fuel and munitions stockpiles, and microgrids to dozens or hundreds of major continental bases could easily exceed tens or hundreds of billions. Unproven reactor technology, vague requirements for 90-day autonomy, strong contractor incentives, and inevitable cost overruns make vast waste likely, with little accountability or proven necessity beyond existing resilience measures already in place for many installations today overall now.

As we yesterday mentioned on LCL, the SCOTUS upheld the removal of due process for numerous immigrants who had come here according to asylum statutes, but who have seen Trumpola change their status… LINK
Yep. The Supreme Court declined, without explanation or dissent, to restore immigration judges’ power to pause deportation cases while people pursue other relief such as crime-victim visas or protections for unaccompanied children. The one-sentence order leaves intact a same-day Texas–Justice Department settlement that vacated the 2024 Biden rule nationwide. From the standpoint of freedom of association, the result is regrettable: communities, employers, and families lose a practical tool for continuing voluntary relationships while status is resolved. The Constitution never mentions immigration; as Jefferson’s Kentucky Resolve Four made plain in 1798, power over “alien friends” was reserved to the states, not a federal monopoly that now dictates outcomes even for those a particular state or locality would welcome.

U.S. District Judge Julia Kobick in Boston yesterday issued a temporary pause through November 6 on a new Trump administration rule that cut the time lawfully admitted refugees have to contest termination of their status from the long-standing 30 days to just 10. The order also bars enforcement of notices already issued between October 14 and 27, protecting potentially tens of thousands of people. Freedom of association requires that individuals already lawfully present—and the communities and employers who have chosen to associate with them—not be stripped of status through accelerated, inadequate process. Jefferson’s 1798 Kentucky Resolve Four correctly located authority over alien friends with the states rather than an unmentioned federal power; that original design better permits local preferences for continued association than uniform national termination machinery. Immigration is nowhere in the Constitution; Jefferson’s Kentucky Resolve Four of 1798 insisted that power over alien friends remained with the states. Tariff Pass-Through Hits Consumers and Domestic Producers
A new CEPR analysis published this week quantifies how the 2025–26 U.S. tariffs raise prices: every percentage-point increase in average tariffs lifts consumer goods prices by roughly a quarter of a percent after one year. About two-thirds of the effect comes from higher import prices passed through almost completely; the remaining third arises because U.S. manufacturers face costlier imported inputs and face less foreign competition, so they raise markups on domestic goods as well. Free-market logic is straightforward—tariffs are simply taxes on trade. They raise costs for businesses that rely on global supply chains and for the households that buy the final products, reducing the gains from specialization without any offsetting efficiency benefit. Tariffs and fuel cost spikes have driven a sharp rise in coffee prices—up roughly 38 percent since late 2024. Broader estimates circulating today, including from the Yale Budget Lab, place the annual cost of current U.S. tariffs at about $1,100 for the average household through higher retail prices. From a free-market perspective, these levies function as consumption taxes that fall hardest on ordinary consumers and on the importers, roasters, retailers, and small businesses that must absorb or pass along the higher landed costs. Unlike a broad-based income or sales tax, targeted tariffs distort relative prices, discourage efficient sourcing, and shrink the overall gains from trade—leaving both households and business owners with permanently higher input and final-product costs.

This is part of the Trump administration’s ongoing campaign against alleged “narcoterrorists” and drug-smuggling vessels in the Eastern Pacific and Caribbean, which began in September 2025. Media tallies put the total at more than 70 strikes and at least 230–240 deaths. Reports describe this as one of the higher-casualty single strikes recently and note it as the first publicly disclosed Eastern Pacific strike since late August. The military has not released public evidence of drugs aboard the vessel, consistent with prior strikes. Critics, including legal experts and rights groups, have raised concerns that the strikes may constitute extrajudicial killings of civilians who do not pose an imminent threat, while the administration frames them as legitimate actions in an “armed conflict” with Latin American cartels to interdict drugs reaching the U.S. Recent related activity includes non-lethal Coast Guard/military “interdictions” (i.e. piracy) (e.g., a vessel on Oct. 23) and targeting of refueling “floating gas stations” the US claims are linked to groups such as Ecuador’s Los Choneros gang - and, of course, that makes utterly ZERO difference, constitutionally or ethically.

Let’s recollect what Trump has done to VZ, completely contrary to the US Constitution…
Venezuela’s total crude production is roughly 1.15–1.25 million barrels per day (bpd) in recent months (September 2026: ~1.15 million bpd by OPEC secondary sources / ~1.21 million by government figures). The vast majority is HEAVY CRUDE, which is useful for tarmac, and must be massively refined for use in engines. Exports are around 1.0–1.2 million bpd.
Chevron (via “joint ventures” [JVs] with PDVSA (the VZ state oil corp), plus: Petropiar, Petroindependencia in the Orinoco Belt, and Petroboscán in Zulia): producing and shipping roughly 280,000–300,000 bpd. In September 2026 it shipped about 283,000 bpd. Output from its JVs has risen ~15% year-to-date in 2026; it plans >$7 billion over five years to roughly double to ~600,000 bpd.
North American Blue Energy Partners (NABEP): a U.S.-backed private producer in which the U.S. government holds a 35% equity stake (plus offtake rights for 20% of production at cost). It is producing roughly 200,000–223,000 bpd (as of now, mid-to-late October 2026, with one field reaching a record 115,000 bpd). It targets 500,000 bpd by end-2028 and longer-term 1 million bpd, backed by rights to ~65 billion barrels of reserves and large planned investment.
Shipments/exports to the United States:
In September 2026, Venezuela exported about 629,000 bpd to the U.S. (up from 553,000 in August), out of total exports of ~1.08 million bpd. Other recent figures show U.S. petroleum imports from Venezuela in the 500,000–720,000+ bpd range (e.g., June EIA data around 721,000 bpd; four-week averages near 636,000 bpd earlier in October). This is a large share of Venezuela’s output and has made Venezuela a top-tier supplier to U.S. Gulf Coast refiners suited for heavy crude.
Rough equivalents: at ~600,000–700,000 bpd to the U.S., that is on the order of 4–5 million barrels per week or 18–21 million barrels per month.
Who is selling?

• Chevron sells its share of JV production (primarily heavy grades popular with U.S. Gulf refiners) under U.S. authorizations.

• Trading houses (notably Vitol and Trafigura, plus others that have sought licenses) market significant volumes of PDVSA oil under U.S. licenses and the post-Maduro framework.

• PDVSA (Venezuelan state oil company) and the interim government handle remaining volumes.

• NABEP sells its production, with structured U.S. offtake and ownership rights.

Where the proceeds go:
Under the post-January 2026 arrangements, the U.S. has exercised oversight of oil sales (initially including stored barrels under flagship deals worth billions). Energy Secretary Chris Wright and other officials have stated that proceeds from U.S.-controlled sales are handed over to Venezuela’s interim government for economic stabilization and the “benefit of the Venezuelan people”, BUT that isn’t really true.
The U.S. claims “supervision to prevent diversion,” and diverts the receipts into offshore bank accounts in Qatar (at the Qatar National Bank) - and recently began putting the cash directly into the US Treasury. LINK
US officials have indicated this control continues until a more “representative government is established”. For NABEP, Venezuela is supposed to receive royalties/taxes (projected in the hundreds of billions over decades in official claims), PDVSA takes a share of offtake, and the U.S. holds an equity stake plus preferential offtake rights. Chevron operates under commercial JV terms with cost recovery and profit shares typical of such partnerships. In short, the bulk of the relevant flow is commercial production and exports by Chevron and NABEP (plus licensed traders handling PDVSA barrels), directed heavily to U.S. refiners, with proceeds structured to support the interim Venezuelan government under U.S. oversight rather than unrestricted Maduro-era channels. Figures fluctuate with logistics, freight rates, and operational recovery; production remains well below historical peaks near 3 million bpd.

TRUMP and AUDI?

If one takes the pop media (esp Fox News) at face value, one might think that Donald Trump made a “deal” with Volkswagen (maker of Audi) to open a big plant in Georgia merely because Trump showed them how “great” the US economy “is”. This belief is false. Of course. It’s only marginally tied to the fact that Europe is a worse basket-case than the US re energy costs and insane diktats. In fact, the bulk of the Audi “deal” is state-gangsterism with threats and Georgia-govt incentives. Here’s the deal, as told by Trump:

But what is the REAL DEAL? It’s the fact that this is a combo of tariff terrorism and internal state-backed fascism… the Audi announcement is a classic example of the distortions free-market critics highlight. On October 24, at a campaign rally in Perry, Georgia, Trump announced that Audi (Volkswagen Group) plans a roughly $4 billion assembly plant at the Middle Georgia Megasite in Peach County near Macon. It is expected to have capacity for up to 200,000 SUVs per year (primarily Q7, Q8, and Q9 models), create about 4,500 jobs, with construction beginning in 2027 and production in the early 2030s. Audi CEO Gernot Döllner appeared on stage with Trump. Audi has confirmed the broad plans (final investment decision still requires Volkswagen supervisory board approval). There is also mention of additional limited production capacity (around 25,000 vehicles/year) linked to Volkswagen’s Scout facility in South Carolina.
Audi currently has no U.S. assembly plant and imports essentially all vehicles sold in the U.S. market from Europe or Mexico. Trump’s tariffs on autos, parts, steel, and aluminum have been costly: Audi reported roughly €1.2 billion (~$1.4 billion) in tariff costs last year. Rates on EU vehicles have been at 15% in the relevant framework (down from higher peaks such as 25%). Trump explicitly credited the policy: he stated that the investment “would not have happened without tariffs” and that “without tariffs, they wouldn’t be coming in.” Audi executives have described the plant as serving dual purposes—expanding in the large U.S. premium market and reducing exposure to import tariffs and trade risks. This follows more than a year of talks between the Trump administration and Volkswagen Group. VW CEO Oliver Blume has previously indicated that large additional U.S. investments (including a potential Audi plant) were difficult to justify under the full tariff burden and has floated “huge investments” in exchange for tariff relief or offsets below the baseline rate. Earlier reporting showed the project had faced pauses or feasibility concerns tied to the tariffs. Döllner has declined to detail any specific terms on tariff relief for this investment.
Georgia offers a mix of tax breaks and fascist state-level incentives (potential job-creation tax credits, site preparation at the megasite, and workforce training via programs like Georgia Quick Start). These are typical for large industrial projects and not unique federal “partnership” handouts, but they add to the package.
From a standpoint that favors open trade, voluntary exchange, and minimal government distortion of investment decisions: Tariffs function as a tax on imports. They raise costs for U.S. buyers of Audi vehicles (or force the company to absorb them, pressuring margins and pricing) and alter the relative economics of production locations. The rational corporate response is often “tariff-jumping” foreign direct investment—building locally to avoid the tax rather than because the location is the most efficient based on productivity, labor costs, logistics, energy, or supplier networks. Visible new jobs appear in Georgia; the less visible effects include higher vehicle prices for consumers, capital tied up in a location that might not have been chosen on pure market grounds, potential productivity or cost penalties if U.S. production is higher-cost for these models, and opportunity costs elsewhere in the economy.
This is not free-market capital allocation. It is government policy (threat of higher costs via tariffs, plus the prospect of preferential relief through negotiation) shaping private decisions. Political theater—announcing at a midterm campaign rally in a competitive state, with the CEO on stage—further politicizes what should be a commercial choice. Companies respond to incentives, including political ones; when governments use tariffs as leverage and companies respond by investing to mitigate or bargain over them, it favors connected or politically responsive firms over pure competition based on consumer demand and efficiency. Similar patterns can be seen throughout history, esp relatively recent history:
BMW and Mercedes established U.S. plants decades ago partly in response to 1980s import quotas and trade frictions. The “seen” is the new plant and jobs; the “unseen” (in Bastiat’s sense) includes the higher prices, reduced competitive pressure, and misallocated resources that tariffs create economy-wide. Free-market critics generally prefer zero or low tariffs, no special deals, and letting comparative advantage, consumer preferences, and relative costs determine where cars are built. Audi and VW frame the move as a long-term bet on the U.S. market and reduced trade risk. That is consistent with responding to the policy environment they face. Whether the plant ultimately proves efficient will depend on actual costs, volumes, exports from the site, and the long-run tariff regime. From the free-market view you describe, the episode illustrates how protectionist tools and government-corporate bargaining redirect investment rather than allowing markets to allocate it freely. In the speech, Trump again jokingly dismissed high oil/gas prices linked to the Iran war and other factors (with his classic canard that YOU are okay paying more because he is stopping Cthulhu from erupting from the Iranian Cthulhu Nuclear Program, TM), said the U.S. oil and gas business was making “hundreds of billions of dollars” (with buyers turning to Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, plus mentions of Venezuela and Greenland), noted advisers had suggested he not highlight it because of pump prices, anticipated critical headlines about bragging while people suffer at the pump, and said he didn’t “give a damn” and would say it anyway: “We’re making a freaking fortune.” He also predicted prices would come down and referenced a potential “Trump dividend.”

Let’s look at Trump’s collectivist “We’re” making a “fortune” claim… The “invest in 35 companies” and the “make special deals” through fascism is clear, but what about the larger US economy? President Trump said the United States oil and gas business and “our country” were making “hundreds of billions of dollars,” “hundreds and hundreds of billions, trillions,” and “a freaking fortune” because high oil prices from the Middle East conflict (linked to the Iran war and Strait of Hormuz disruptions) were driving buyers to Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. He added references to Venezuela and Greenland. He snarkily said that advisers had urged him not to mention it “because people are paying a little higher” at the pump (national average around $4.29/gallon, up roughly 40% year-over-year from about $3.06–$3.07). He predicted criticism that he was “bragging about all the money they’re making while people are suffering at the pump” and replied, “I don’t give a damn… We’re making a freaking fortune.” He has also noted in other remarks that major firms like ExxonMobil and Chevron made large profits. The language centers on industry and state-level gains from elevated crude prices and redirected demand, while framing them as national benefit; it does not primarily describe direct federal Treasury windfalls, nor is it indicative of the US economy.

The federal government does earn revenue from oil and gas on unconstituionally held “public lands and offshore areas” mainly through royalties (the bulk), plus rents, bonuses, and fees collected by the Office of Natural Resources Revenue. These are shared with producing states and certain funds; the Treasury receives a portion. Total energy revenue was about $14.61 billion in FY2025, down 11% from $16.45 billion in FY2024 amid earlier lower prices. The One Big Beautiful Bill reduced the onshore royalty rate from 16.67% to a 12.5% minimum, which lowers the government’s take relative to prior rules even as higher recent prices can boost absolute collections. Recent partial FY2026 data show some year-over-year gains in certain categories tied to production and pricing. On tax receipts, FY2025 total federal receipts reached $5.235 trillion, up $317 billion (6.4%) from FY2024’s $4.918 trillion, driven by higher individual income taxes and a gross Tariff theft of $360 billion, half of which was ordered by the SCOTUS to be returned to companies that had to pay the unconstitutional 2025 Trump IEEPA tariff), partially offset by lower corporate taxes. Receipts were not worse off year-over-year; they rose, while the deficit grew (~$1.8 trillion) as spending grew.
The broader economy shows clear softness. Job growth has been weak. A major BLS annual benchmark revision found 911,000 fewer jobs than initially reported for the April 2024–March 2025 period (overlapping late Biden and early Trump). After further revisions, calendar 2025 net job gains were very low (around 116,000 in some tallies). Through September 2026, monthly averages were roughly 68,000. Labor-force participation has fallen from 62.5% in December 2024 to 61.8% in September 2026, with the number of people not in the labor force rising by roughly 2–2.3 million (to about 105.3 million seasonally adjusted). This contrasts with the rise in participation during Biden’s later years (from around 61.5% toward 62.5%). High energy costs, slowing hiring, and more people exiting the workforce contribute to the relatively weak labor-market picture amid ongoing inflation pressures and consumer strain.

A new book by Matthew Cole asserts that Jared Kushner accessed roughly $2 billion in secret accounts funded by Saudi and Emirati leaders while serving as a senior White House adviser. The funds, reportedly routed through accounts including one at Israel’s central bank, were allegedly intended to advance political objectives and personal interests. Kushner has denied the charges as fabrications. Whether or not the specific accounts existed, the pattern highlights a deeper problem the Constitution was written to prevent: the fusion of private financial power with public authority. The Founders established a limited government of enumerated powers, separation of powers, and prohibitions on foreign emoluments precisely to block the kind of state-corporate partnerships that define fascist systems. In those arrangements, government officials and private or foreign interests collude for mutual advantage, subordinating the public interest to concentrated wealth.
The Constitution grants no authority for such blending. It does not authorize officials to treat foreign sovereign wealth as a personal or political resource, nor does it permit private actors to purchase policy influence. When government roles and corporate or foreign capital become interchangeable, republican rules erode. Citizens concerned with constitutional limits should reject this model regardless of the individuals involved.

Venues are canceling or dropping stops on the Ohio GOP bus tour involving Vivek Ramaswamy after backlash to his ad featuring Democratic opponent Amy Acton’s estranged mother calling Dr. Acton a liar. The ad, which we got to play last Thursday, on LCL, and with which we added rebuttal commentary to refute the mom’s claims, is something Ramaswamy’s campaign has defended and planned to air with a reported $4 million. Acton was removed from the home at age 12 after her stepfather was charged in connection with sexual abuse; the mother stayed with him, and the family has been estranged. Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine called the ad “deeply, deeply troubling” and urged it be taken down. Other Ohio Republicans expressed discomfort, while Trump and JD Vance defended it. Reporting (primarily from Zeteo, amplified elsewhere) says a top Ohio Republican told them: “We’re getting calls that people don’t want him there. It’s that damn ad.” Hosts are wary of publicity, angry calls, social media attacks, and customer complaints. Specific issues include:

• Old Dog Ale House & Brewery in Delaware, Ohio, canceled a GOP ticket event (party lined up an alternative).

• A Sunday service at CrossPointe Church in Westerville disappeared from the tour page.

• A planned Trumbull County stop lost its listed location.
