This report actually handles the matter with some fairness. Clearly, the home market has been in the doldrums for months, and the sellers are trying to lower prices in order to attract worried potential market participants. The key for many of them is the Trump pressure for lower interest rates. Trump wants Powell to lower rates for numerous bad reasons. First, he wants a weaker dollar to make it harder for US consumers to import products from other countries, thus making it look like he has eliminated or cut back the so-called "trade deficit" (which never IS a deficit, because the liquidity American consumers send to foreign sellers comes back in the form of investment — the trick is to stop the government from getting that investment put into government bonds and to see it put into real markets, instead). Trump also wants lower rates because he has to refinance $9 trillion in US Debt soon, and he wants to do so at lower interest rates. And, of course, he, like so many Keynesians, believes loose interest rates will spur "economic growth", when, in reality, it will increase the swing of the boom-bust cycle. Here is the piece. LINK!

The Chinese government has repeated what many of us expected it would do, avoiding US debt instruments as a means to push back against US tariffs and also because Trump keeps pressuring the Fed to lower rates. This acts as both an incentive to get bonds before rates go down and a disincentive to buy them because they will be paid back with dollars that (due to the fed printing money and allowing loose rates for loans, which facilitates the compounding effect of borrowing banks then counting their "debt" as assets and lending off that, which also increases the de-facto money supply and decreases the buying power of each unit of money out there). Here's the latest on China, and if the Chinese government and people thought the US economy was stable, they would be incentivized to invest in US private industry, but they wait, and watch, as Trump piles more expenses on us. As I got to discuss on Liberty Conspiracy the other night, the Genius Act not only has utterly ZERO constitutional basis, it is a backdoor to a CBDC and it is a way for Trump and the DC vampires to get more institutions purchasing US treasuries. The statute requires any institution that wants to produce a so-called "stablecoin" to have to have US Treasuries as so-called "assets" to back up the new "coin." This is merely a reshaping of the set-up for the Federal Reserve, and it mimics the disastrous non-free so-called "free banking" era during Andrew Jackson's presidency. Jackson did not reauthorize the Bank of the United States, and, instead, the feds allowed "private" banks to issue currency and work within states. But these banks were NOT private. In order to exist, the feds told them they had to hold a certain amount of state debt, and within a few years, 14 of the 17 states of that era defaulted on their debts, leaving the banks with worthless promissory notes.
