Colosians 2:8 says, "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ." The New Testament has consistent, unified, specific teaching. Moving away from it spoils our faith. It certainly is possible to understand this teaching and everyone can agree what the meaning of the text is. The issue is accepting what it says. The problem of division between Churches is not understanding the text or interpreting it differently but rather accepting or rejecting it. For example one professor at Bryan College in Dayton Tennessee stated that every denomination ignores passages in the Bible so they can teach their own brand of Christianity. This can be verified by speaking with Church leaders about specific verses and hear their response. Expect to hear phrases from them such as; "that verse is error", "That is what it says but its not what it means", "We don't believe that", "There is not sufficient manuscript evident to justify that verse being in the Bible", "We follow our creed book" etc.
The big problem comes when philosophers, and false teachers try to influence you to conform to their dogma rather than encourage you to grasp the meaning of the text. In this episode Gary shows the significance of this problem, specific problematic examples and how to protect yourself from negative influences.
