Michael Basinski, a featured poet for Greensboro Bound literary festival, performs two works: For Instance Butter, an improvisational poem with impromptu audience collaboration, and Odin Mars. Bookseller Shannon Purdy Jones highlights the expanded offerings for this years festival, including a full day of child/youth programming. Writer and Festival Coordinator Deonna Kelli Sayed describes the festival's intentions to include authors outside the mainstream, especially women and people of color, and to create an atmosphere of equality among the presenters. Singer-songwriter Bryan Toney and musician/producer Tim Troyer of Black Rabbit Audio talk about the recording of Bryan's newest album, "Cone of Uncertainty," with a deep dive into the songs Charlottesville and Wondering. Episode #41. Abstract painter Sallie White and ArtsGreensboro annual fund chair Jada Monica Drew make the case for supporting the arts. Sallie is recipient of an ArtsGreensboro regional artist grant, which funded a retreat at which she laid the groundwork for her current exhibit In The Presence of Absence. Her studio is also located in the historic Sternberger Artists Center, home to 16 studios for a variety of artists, including writers, painters, photographers. Former student of opera turned full-time singer-songwriter Ashley Virginia performs two originals: The Invisible Hand, a statement on Capitalism; and Relapse, about the pull of social media to achieve perfection and acceptance. Poet Rege Gilmore reads four poems: These Shoes, Broken and Unashamed, Before I Cry My Last Tear, and May I have a Word With You? Rege is also currently experiencing homelessness and a client of Smell the Roses, a local nonprofit whose mission is to break the stigma and stereotypes of people experiencing homelessness. Episode #39. Poets Doug and Trey started with the Gate City Youth Slam Team and are now host of College Night Slam open mic. On this show, Doug delivers two poems: Water and If These Walls Could Talk. The latter conveys viewpoints on passion, anger, and expectations in both black and white culture.  Doug performs Consent (...no one told me what no looks like...). As a local creative advocate, Phillip Marsh facilitates action for communities who desire creative solutions that only artists can provide.
