Also, singer-songwriter Carmen Bliss performs two originals: Next to You and Superman.

Three members of the Greensboro-based Indie/ Alt Rock/ Psychedelic Americana band Viva La Muerte join us in the studio for conversation and an acoustic set: John Crocker on pedal steel, Matt Armstrong on rhythm guitar and vocals, and Taylor Coldiron on fiddle. Episode #55. From Oak Ridge, NC, Jessie Dunks leaned on music and songwriting as a way to stand out among her 10 siblings. When her parents bought her a guitar, her songwriting developed into a natural extension of herself and helped her express and process life's joys and  challenges. Episode #52. Rapper Demi Day works as an assistant minister at Emmanuel Baptist Church In Winston Salem, NC, as well as assistant director of community engagement at Wake Forest University. Her passion for rap began as a child, with influence from Ludacris, Missy Elliott, Bow Wow and Lil Romeo. 

Day just released her first EP, PLANS, which is an acronym for Perpetuating Life Agendas NonStop. On this episode of Gate City Live, she performs three songs from the release: 1) Be Like You, 2) Shame, and 3) Suitcasing, which is about following your path.

Episode #51. When Al Stephens retired from 30+ years in insurance and finance, he purchased the go-to location for instruments, instrument repair, and lessons, Moore Music Company. The business was founded in 1939 to supply Greensboro, NC's growing reputation as a city for music performance and education.

Naomi Bates-Wood leads the educational component of Moore Music Company. She is also a highly accomplished violinist. On this episode, she performs several works that demonstrate her breadth of knowledge.

Beginning in Sep 2019, Gate City Live will collaborate with Moore Music Company on a monthly podcast presented with a live audience, in the performance space at Moore Music Company, Studio 615. (Date: 7/12/19)

Episode #49. In this episode, we talk with Eddie Romero, Aggie by day and photographer extraordinaire on nights and weekends.  Since moving to N.C., Eddie has found a community of outdoor enthusiasts and photographers to influence his work #througheddieslens on Instagram.

Also on the show, singer Angel whose stage name is ADHD, celebrating a mental challenge that also attributes to his creativity. He sings acapella the Green Day cover "21 Guns," then his original "Emotional." Angel is also experiencing homelessness, and his music helps him through the difficult days. We thank Smell the Roses nonprofit for introducing us. 

Greensboro singer-songwriter Justin Reid finishes out the show with originals "Midnight Tears," about racial injustice and "Done," which captures relationship moment when you know it's all over.
