Geek Devotions

Can a game like House Flipper really teach us something about faith?

This week, I took on a student’s challenge to create a devotion from one of the chillest games out there. Turns out, flipping virtual houses has a lot to say about spiritual growth. We don’t start with all the skills, we grow over time. And as we grow, we start to see things we never noticed before.

Scripture reference: 1 Timothy 4:15

"Practice these things. Be committed to them so that your progress may be evident to all."

If you're into geek culture, love Jesus, and want to grow in your faith — you're in the right place.

Let us know in the comments: Has a game ever taught you something deeper than expected?

This week on Geek Devotions, Celeste shares her honest thoughts after finishing The Will of the Many by James Islington, a book that unexpectedly sparked a lot of emotions and thought. One specific quote stood out:“The man who is never nervous, never does anything hard. A man who is never nervous, never grows.”In this devotional, we unpack how that quote parallels biblical wisdom from Philippians 4:10–13. What does it really mean to face challenges while choosing contentment in Christ? And how do we grow in faith through hard seasons?📖 Referenced Scripture:Philippians 4:10–13📚 Book Mentioned:The Will of the Many by James IslingtonTHANK YOU TO OUR PATRONSWe’re incredibly grateful to our Devoted Patreon Geeks who help make this ministry possible:Ruiz Family, Adam Arciniega, Lady Lommax, Paul Turner, Jacob Russell, Mike Alderman, Nerd Chapel, Monster Island Film Vault, PaulJPowers.com, Michael Manacci, The Cel Cast, Savie Wilson, John Harju, Kevin Lovelace, Branson Boykin, Leah Miller, Brianna Sheagley — and so many more.Thank you for your continued support!SUPPORT GEEK DEVOTIONSWant to help us keep doing what we do? The Void in Thunderbolts is More Real Than You Think. In this week’s Geek Devotions, Celeste dives into a surprising moment from Marvel’s Thunderbolts that touches on mental health, depression, and the power of presence. What does a superpowered fight against an invisible enemy say about real-life struggles? And how can we, as friends or believers, respond when someone feels like they’re losing to the darkness? Join us as we explore this emotional scene and how it connects to scriptures like Psalm 69.____ THANK YOUS ___________A big thank you to our Devoted Patreon Geeks who support us monthly! Getting lost in a massive JRPG like Xenoblade Chronicles X can be overwhelming—especially when you skip the tutorial and find yourself in battles you're not ready for.
