Geek Heart Games

This special episode is all about HORROR MOVIES!

Be warned: SPOILERS ABOUND. We decided to watch each other's favorite horror movies and then discuss. Sam's favorite is The Descent, about a group of women who go spelunking and bad things happen. Cody's is Grave Encounters, about a group of paranormal investigators who lock themselves in a haunted asylum overnight and bad things happen. As a bonus, we also talk about the Terrifier because it is really, really weird.

In this week's horror check in, Trick 'r Treat is a Halloween classic, but Malevolent isn't worth your time. (CORRECTION: Sam mentions "Scream if You Know What I Did Last Friday the 13th" but that is actually "Shriek if You Know What I Did Last Friday the 13th"

Cody's jumped into Call of Duty Black Ops 4 and is loving the new Blackout mode. Sam's been playing (and dying) in Slain: Back from Hell and she remembers that Dead Space 2 is one of the greatest horror games of all time!

We go through our top 11 horror games of all time and share some favorites from our friends in Discord.

Additional Games Mentioned in this episode (because Byron likes a list)

Bioshock, System Shock, a bunch of Resident Evils, Limbo, Inside, some DOOMs, some Silent Hills, Hellblade, Until Dawn, Friday the 13th, Dead by Daylight, Outlast, Killing Floor 2, some Dead Spaces

We've been watching some scary things including Season One of the Scream TV Show, the new movie Hell Fest and the completely disturbing Hereditary. Cody got spooked by Amnesia, while Sam's been playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider and she also got to try Assassin's Creed Odyssey through Google's Project Stream.

In the news, Microsoft is also looking to make streaming games to your phone a viable option, PSN name changes are just around the corner and Fortnite has a new Disco Domination mode!

Our month of Horror continues! We've been watching Mandy, American Horror Story: Asylum, Friend Request and Thirst (the one about juvenile delinquents in the wilderness hunted by an alien - not one of the many other movies that comes up if you search for thirst...)

Cody has a super secret game he went on an adventure to play. Hollow, a horror game on Switch isn't great. Immortal Redneck IS great. And Forza Horizon 4 is a mixed bag.

We finally catch up on some news including the PS1 mini, Red Dead Online will be having a beta (after the main game releases), the Telltale layoffs continue, and Switch is getting some new hardware next year.

It's October and that means it's ALL HORROR ALL THE TIME! (Except for the times when we talk about the non-horror stuff...) We kick things off with some extracurricular horror including Sam's latest read "What We Kill" by Howard Odentz and Cody's latest movies, The Nun (which is good) and The Terrifier (which is %#@!ing awesome). We give you a slight break from the scares as we discuss what we've been playing: Trials Evolution; Warface; and what's supposed to be a short update on Destiny 2...Then it's back to TOTAL TERROR TIME as we discuss all things Resident Evil! We've got games! We've got movies! We've got personality quizzes!

This week, one or both of us has been teleported to an alternate dimension and we are busy saving the world, so we were unable to record a regular podcast. However, we've got a SUPER special episode to tide you over. That's right, we're talking all about the Super Mario Bros. Movie! It's definitely a classic, but has it withstood the test of time? Tune in to find out!

This week, we know it's early but we're getting into the Halloween spirit with a bit of horror movie talk. In the games world, we watched some of the Black Ops 4 Blackout Beta and played some Trials Rising Beta. Friday the 13th finally got dedicated servers! It took Sam way longer than your average gamer to master the combat in Spider-Man. And while discussing the new Gambit game mode, Cody and Sam are surprised to find they have something in common.

We recap the latest Nintendo Direct which seems to have something for everyone including: Luigi's Mansion 3, New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe, Town, Lord of the Rings Living Card Game, Carcassonne, Pandemic, Catan, Munchkin, Katamari Damacy, Pokemon, Super Smash Bros, Animal Crossing, Warframe, Daemon X Machina (and at least one more that I just can't remember - Sorry, Byron).

MAKE NOTE FOR HISTORICAL PURPOSES: A bet has been made. Cody says Daemon X Machina will be $60. Sam says it will be $40. We eagerly await a pricing announcement to see who gets bragging rights.

Destiny 2 Forsaken is here! We talk in depth about our excitement (Sam once again loves Destiny). We have an extremely light spoiler section (covering the trailers and the first couple of missions) running from 0:26:50 until 1:02:27 (if you aren't into Destiny, just skip to here once we start talking about it). Also, Sam is so glad she tried Strange Brigade before the onslaught of AAA games begins. It's really fun and you should give it a chance!

In the news, Bungie Rewards is giving out free stuff you can earn from playing including the Forsaken soundtrack! Best Buy is going to be having demo's of Super Smash Brothers! (But before you get too excited, it's only in select locations.) And THQ Nordic has bought the rights to Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning!!

We delve into a listener question which leads to the brand new segment "Is it Bullshit?" where we summarize a game that we are unfamiliar with.

It was the best of updates, it was the worst of updates. Destiny 2 had an update. We have widely differing opinions. Also this week, your Geek Heart family has started playing D&D. We recap our good times so far! Sam raves about how cool Ryse: Son of Rome is (available on Game Pass). We bitch a little about the Private (pay to play) Beta trend (Fallout 76 - we're lookin' at you), but we're A OK with paying extra to access content early (Division 2). Microsoft is doing everything right with their new Xbox All Access program. And who knew that everything on Xbox Game Preview wasn't free? (I'm guessing a lot of people knew - but we didn't until Day Z was announced for $40).

Exciting news this week including new games coming to Xbox Game Preview, Man of Medan and Nintendo Indie's like Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom, Everspace and Morphies Law that - SURPRISE - is out now! Cody develops an affinity for punishing games while playing Death's Gambit - so much so that he wants to try a Dark Souls game! Sam has fallen in love again and it's with Sky Force Anniversary Edition! We've also been playing the early access of Divinity Original Sin 2, DOOM and H1Z1 (though it brings out a little Cody's Corner of Rage).
