  • Geek Revolution Radio #172 Blockbuster Season in Review
It seems like there are two seasons in film…Blockbuster season and Oscars season.  When one starts and the other ends often blends is difficult to tell, but it’s pretty clear when your in Blockbuster season.  Usually associated with summer, but sometimes crawling into spring.  We look back and some of the best in our Blockbuster season in review for 2017.

Part 1 – Intro – Star Wars Rebels & other animated shows
To kick off the show, Will and Ryan discussed the Star Wars Rebels, and how good it really is.  With a few moments of cheesiness, Star Wars Rebels is truly a great show.  With so much story to unfold, Rebels really dives into much of the Star Wars mythology.  The story is captivating and quite entertaining.  Will just wishes his daughter could be more into it.  Are you excited for season 4?
The show Will’s daughter is really in to is Troll Hunter on Netflix.  Will goes into the show a little and details why it’s worth a watch.
Part 2 – Blockbuster Season in Review
There were so many good movies that came out this year.  There were a few that were simply terrible.  Here is a list of the films we discussed (some are films we didn’t see, but made fun of because of how bad they were in theaters)
    John Wick 2
    Power Rangers
XXX: The Return of Xander Cage
The Fate of the Furious – April 14
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – May 5
    Alien: Covenant – May 19
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales – May 26
    Wonder Woman – June 2
    The Mummy – June 9
    Baby Driver
    Spider-Man Homecoming
War for the Planet of the Apes
    The Dark Tower

  • Geek Revolution Radio #171 – Game of Thrones…So Far
It has been a wild ride in just 5 episodes.  Game of Thrones season 7 is back, and they aren’t messing around.  With each episode full of action, and no filler, there is much to be excited about.  On this week’s episode, the guys discuss the new season of Game of Thrones…So Far.

Part 1 – The Joys of Potty Training
The guys started out the show talking about about what’s new in their life.  Will talked about the struggles he’s facing while trying to potty train twin toddlers.  Oh the joys of adulthood… or more specifically, parenthood.
    Part 2 – Game of Thrones…so far
As part of the main conversation about Game of Thrones, Ryan posed a question to Will:  Is Cersei a great leader from the eyes of a citizen of King’s Landing?  This lead to a discussion where as a fan of the show, and an outside observer, can you objectively see Cersei in a different light.
The guys also looked at the growing relationship between Daenerys and John Snow.  It is pretty clear they have something going on, but in a world wear brother and sister can hook up, does aunt and nephew seem too weird.  This is definitely uncharted territory for most fiction we discuss on the show, but in the world of Game of Thrones, might not seem to weird.
With so many plots, and so many lines that need to connect, this season has been an intense ride.  We finally see some of the things fans have been craving.  Daenerys looks masterful on a dragon, and John Snow looks like the leader we hope that can avoid the fate that so many other characters have faced on this show.
In a few weeks, when the season is over, we’ll have a final recap of the last two episodes.

  • Geek Revolution Radio #170 – Matt Damon
Love him or hate him, it’s hard to deny Matt Damon has been in a long list of impressive films.  From “Good Will Hunting” to “The Martian,” there is plenty to applaud.  In this weeks episode, the guys continue their “Actors we love series,” and pay tribute to Matt Damon.

    Part 1 – Matt Damon
His off-camera persona, and maybe a crudely made puppet of him in “Team America World Police”…
…has given Matt Damon a “lesser than” quality.  Maybe it’s not so much his off-camera persona, but just a goofy demeanor seen on and off camera.  The truth is, he has been in plenty of great films.  Over the last three decades, Matt Damon has made a number of great films.  Every actor is going to have a handful of mediocre films (the first one that comes to mind is The Great Wall), but it’s the top notch films we remember.
Some of our more memorable, or favorite films include Good Will Hunting, which has been discussed a number of times on the show, specifically when we did our Robin Williams episode.  The other films that were heavily discussed were The Departed and The Martian, both of which are great in for different reason.  Dogma may be one of Damon’s funniest performances, which may come in part with his appearances in a number of Kevin Smith films.  The Ocean 11 series also saw a number of great performances from the man of the hour.

  • Geek Revolution Radio #169 – Spider-Man: Homecoming
Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is back in action.  With a whole new cast, and new face for the web-slinger, Spider-Man: Homecoming is the third installment or “reboot”.  Now under the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans are finally seeing what can be with Spider-Man as a rightful part of the Avengers.  In this week’s episode, Will and Ryan review the new film, compare it to the other films, and break down where it fits among other Marvel films.

    Part 1 – Intro
To kick off the show, Will and Ryan discussed the latest Star Wars news, specifically revolving around the Han Solo film.  With the booting of its directors, rumors of the lead needing an acting coach, and a number of other issues swirling, the guys discuss whether the hiring of Ron Howard is enough to right the ship.

    Part 1 – Spider-Man: Homecoming
In what could possibly be the best Spider-Man film to date, Tom Holland  did an outstanding job as the third actor to don the mask.  From the get go, as the Marvel logo appeared, both Will and Ryan felt it had the feel of a truly “Marvel” Spider-Man film.  This wasn’t a Sony film with the support of Marvel, but more the opposite, as it had the feeling of other Marvel films.
The guys go into the various things that there was to love about this film.  The film had outstanding performance from both Holland, as well Michael Keaton as the Vulture.  This was an all around great film, with plenty of laughs, and growing pains of a young and learning Spider-Man.

  • Geek Revolution Radio #168 – Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Can they save the galaxy a second time?  The simple answer is… yes.  Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is the 15th film from Marvel Studios, and the 15th film to open #1 in the box office in its first weekend.   That’s right, Marvel Studios is going strong, and it is ever more seen in the Guardians sequel.  From the opening sequence to the end credits, this movie is a blast.  In this weeks episode, we breakdown everything there is to love about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

    Part 1 – Intro
To kick off the show, Will and Ryan discussed the current state of Marvel on Netflix.  With two great series in Daredevil and Jessica Jones, the last two series haven’t panned out.  Iron Fist and Luke Cage have been received with mixed response, with Iron Fist getting the most negative feedback.  Is this a bad sign for The Defenders?  Is all hope lost for a new series.
Will and Ryan also discussed the upcoming film Wonder Woman.  With little buzz seen between both guys, we wonder if the film is being marketed more towards women.  With just under a month until it releases, could we see a lot more Wonder Woman in advertising on social media and tv?
Part 2- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Without being overly biased and lacking any critique, is there much doubt that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 wasn’t going to be successful?  From a great opening weekend, high praise from critics, and love from the fans, Guardians is easily a hit.  In its opening weekend, the film brought in $145 million domestically, and raked in $425 million world wide.  It’s clear Marvel has another hit on its hands.
Ryan and Will discussed what they loved most about the film, including a surprise performance from Michael Rooker.  Just a warning, this episode is full of spoilers.

  • Geek Revolution Radio #167 – 40 Years of Star Wars
As we just learned, and as Luke would say: Just breath.   Can you contain your smile after the trailer for The Last Jedi was released?  Star Wars Celebration gave us plenty to be excited for, and if you’re like us, it has taken 10 plus days to process all the pure and total elation following the celebration.  On this week’s episode, we discuss the new Last Jedi trailer, highlights from the Star Wars Celebration, and a lengthy discussion on the prequels.  With each new bit of information that comes out, even the prequels have new revelations.

    Part 1 – Intro
To kick off the show, Will gave a review of the new movie “Colossal,” staring Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudeikis.  Not your typical giant monster movie, Colossal deals with a great deal of metaphor, with many connections to an ongoing battle with alcoholism.  Without giving too much away, Will definitely recommends this odd and yet pleasant sci-fi indie film.
The guys also discussed the new Netflix show “13 Reasons Why.”  With plenty of online support and outrage, they guys weighed in on how the feel about the series.  Both Will and Ryan address online “fake” outrage, that often comes with popular trends like seen with this show.  Questioning how much you can really know about the effects of a show without actual scientific research.
It’s easy to line up 10 doctors who agree with you, just as it is to find 10 who disagree, but true study requires years of research.  It does us no good to jump at the first sign of discord.
Part 1 – 40 Years of Star Wars
If you didn’t know, we’re super nerds when it comes to Star Wars.  With the commencement of Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, Will and Ryan spent the majority of this episode reflecting on 40 years of Star Wars.  From the new trailer for The Last Jedi to the tribute for Carrie Fisher, there was a lot of great things going on in Orlando.  We breakdown the trailer, and give a few predictions for the upcoming film.
Ryan had a chance to go back and watch the prequels, and came across a number of things that stand out, many of which stand out from information we got from the Star Wars Celebration.   With the new age of Disney, simple and unnoticed things in the prequels have the guys excited.
With 40 great years of Star Wars, there’s little doubt the next 40 years will be a hit.

With the start of the blockbuster season already upon us, there’s plenty to be excited for.  From Guardians to the Furious, the guys dive in on what to expect over late spring and early summer.  On this weeks episode we preview the movies coming out between April and June.

    Part 1 – Intro
To kick off the show, the Ryan discussed his new favorite obsession “Zelda: Breath of the Wild.”  Ryan argues that this might be his favorite game to date.
The guys also discussed the new Thor Ragnarok trailer, and how Marvel is still killing it with by making good films.  After watching the trailer, both Will and Ryan are really excited to see this one.  The question now is, with Justice League also coming out in November, which movie will be more successful.
The discussions about Justice League led towards an on going discussion on the show of the “success” woes of DC and Warner Brothers,  and what exactly it would take for overhaul at DC.  Could we ever see a DC Studios similar to Marvel Studios?
The guys also had an “Airing of Grievance” over the fart fest that was Good Morning America’s Star Wars announcement.  Will described it as the “Rachel Maddow” Trump tax return for Star Wars fans.  With a big build up and such a big let down, both Ryan and Will were very disappointing with the  Announcement.
Part 2 – Upcoming Movie Preview
There’s a number of good movies coming out over the next three months.  For this weeks episode, it’s all about the best of the upcoming movies.  Here’s a rundown of all the movies we discussed, courtesy of IMDB:

Part 2 – Rick and Morty
Rick and Morty is a somewhat new show on Adult Swim (Cartoon Network after dark). It is funny, insightful, and raunchy – all the making for a great comedy. Despite Rick and Morty only having 2 seasons over 4 years and no definitive plans for a season 3, this show is still binge-worthy.
On this weeks show Ryan and Will discuss what they love about it and if it out ranks other legendary animated shows like The Simpsons and Family Guy. They share how they came upon it and how Adult Swim is the perfect network for this kind of show.

  • Geek Revolution Radio #164 – Logan
For seventeen years, Hugh Jackman has been a show of force portraying the beloved Wolverine.  With what will most likely be his last time wearing the claws, “Logan” is a dark and gritty tale.  In this weeks episode, we review the film and discuss where it compares to other X-Men films.

    Part 1 – Intro
To kick off the show, the guys welcomed back guest Cindy Bennett.  You can find some of her work at cindycbennett.com.
Will gave a brief review of the new FX show Legion.  With only five episodes in, this could be the big hit of 2017.  With comparisons to Stranger Things, this is definitely one of Will’s favorite new shows.
Ryan gave his review of the new Nintendo Switch.  With incredible features, including the capability of taking your game on the road, this new console is a great option for gamers.
The guys also discussed their frustrations with the Daylight Savings time shift, questioning why we still practice this worthless switch.
In their Star Wars discussion segment, the guys discussed Jar Jar Binks, asking if the character is the worst in the Star Wars universe.  Despite his importance in the plot of Episode 3, everyone agreed that Binks is truly annoying.
    Part 2 – Logan
The last installment of the “Hugh Jackman” era of Wolverine was an incredible ride.  All agreed, Logan is not like any other superhero film.  With its dark and gritty story, that often feels just as much a gritty western as it does superhero action flick, the guys enjoyed many aspects of the film.
The guys also discussed the R rating for “Logan” and what this means for the future of super hero films.  With another success at the box office, Logan and Deadpool show that the fanbase are committed to darker and edgier films.
The guys also discussed an interesting connection between “Logan” and “The Wolverine”, where Yukie predicted Logan’s death, saying “I see you on your back, there’s blood everywhere. You’re holding your own heart in your hand.”
Many critics, filmmakers and historians have referred to the modern superhero genre as the modern western.  Drawing similarities in popularity.  Some suggesting, like westerns, superhero movies will lose popularity and go away.  This film almost nods to the notion that the two genres are similar, and can be seen in its references to “Shane” a 1953 western about a man forced to kill to protect others.  The explored if “Logan” is just as much a western just as it is a superhero movie.

  • Geek Revolution Radio #163 – Infinity War
With over 400 days until Avengers: Infinity War comes out, now is the best time to start talking about it right?  Well with production under way, there is plenty to discuss as we lead up to the big movie.  We look at where we are now in the “overall” story, where each infinity stone is currently located before the film comes out, and what we expect for what could be Marvel Studios biggest project to date.

    Part 1 – Intro
To start off the show, Ryan took time to announce the birth of his second child Cersei, and how lucky he is that both of his daughters Cersei and Khaleesi are sleeping through the night without an issue.
The guys also discussed the Oscars, and what they think of the nominees for best picture, who got snubbed, and what they think of the awards overall.  Be sure to list for the movie the guys think will ‘probably’ win, and which movie the guys think should win.
    Part 2 – Infinity War
What really inspired this weeks episode was the teaser featurette for the start of production for Infinity Wars.   I could write all about it, or just show it… so here ya go:
The guys mostly focused on where each stone is, where we were first introduced, and what they think will likely happen to the stone leading to Infinity War.  A lot of discussion was on Thanos, and what role the infinity gauntlet will play.  They also debated where we’ll see his big “take over.”
To break down the infinity stones, the first stone introduced is the “Space Stone” or the Tesseract.  This was the first stone to show up, which was key in the first Avengers film.
The next stone introduced is the “Reality Stone” or “The Aether,” which is the red viscous liquid seen Thor 2. It is a mysterious force that existed before the birth of the nine realms.
In the second Avengers movie, the third stone is the “Mind Stone” plays a big role in the film.  It was essentially what was used to create Vision, and currently resides on Visions forehead.
The fourth stone is the “Power Stone”, which was a key piece to the Guardians of the Galaxy.  The fifth stone is the “Time Stone”, which (spoiler) played a big part of the Doctor Strange film.
Finally, is the “Soul Stone”, which hasn’t been seen officially yet.  While we know little about the soul stone, you can believe it will be almost certainly be a big deal in which ever film it shows up in.  The guys debated about which film we’ll see this one in, and whether Thanos already has it.
    Credits
So what do you think will win “Best Picture at the Oscars?  What are you most excited for with the upcoming Infinity War film?  Our last piece of discussion was on who will die in Infinity Wars, so who do you think will get the ax?  Get into conversation at
