  • Geek Revolution Radio #162 – Mars: Our Journey to the Red Planet
Mankind is currently working to put human beings on Mars. In this weeks show we discuss how it might go down, what challenges the crew will face settling such a desolate planet and how National Graphic’s new show Mars got some parts of it right and other parts vastly wrong.

    Part 1 – Intro
In the first half of the show Ryan and Will discuss life and creating it as well as some things they are looking forward to in the coming months. Will discussed growing up in Atlanta and how excited he is as a long time Falcons fan to see them compete in Super Bowl 51. Past super bowls have had lackluster performances both at halftime and in the commercial breaks. Will this year be any different?
Part 2 – Mars: Our Journey to the Red Planet
There has been a spike in interest in travelling to Mars in recent years both in Hollywood and in advancements in the field of Science. Billionaires like Elon Musk have created companies solely dedicated to putting man on the red planet. What does Antarctica have to do with space travel? Will we find life on Mars or learn anything about our own existence?
In the main segment of the show Ryan and Will discuss a new documentary style Sci-Fi called Mars that aired on National Geographic at the end of 2016. They dive into what worked on the show and how great some of the theories will go and talk about other problems that could come up not covered in the show. They also discuss how they think it will actually go down when we actually travel to space.

  • Geek Revolution Radio #158 – Movies We Love: Fight Club
It is a one of a kind movie, setting the tone for film over the last 18 years.  From incredible performances from Edward Norton and Brad Pitt, to the engulfing themes throughout, Fight Club is a one of a kind film that holds true still today. This week we are making soap… or more specifically, we’re continuing our “Movies We Love” series, diving into Fight Club, and everything there is to love about this amazing movie.

    Part One – Intro
To start the show, the guys got into an “airing of grievance” over Black Friday, and questioning why people still go shopping so early on a friday when you can find the same deals throughout the year, especially online.
Ryan also gave his feedback after seeing Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them
    Part Two – Fight Club

This movie had very lasting effects on both Ryan and Will, and to say it is a favorite between the two wouldn’t be much of a stretch.  On this weeks show, the guys get into everything there is to love about this film.  With masterful performances from not only Brad Pitt and Edward Norton, but as well as Helena Bonham Carter, this movie truly captivates the audience.  The guys discuss their favorite scene’s as well as who they’s want to fight in real life.

  • Geek Revolution Radio #157 – Saga Comic Series
If you take a little from Star Wars, a little from Game of Thrones, and a little from Romeo and Juliet, and throw in a little acid, then you’ve got the recipe for “Saga”.  Simply described, the Saga comic series is an epic space opera/fantasy, but it is very high on the epic and fantasy scale.  With deep ties to family and the exploration of young family hood, Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples’ Saga is arguably one of the best graphic novels out there.  This week is all about the fantastical world of Saga, and why we love it so much.

    Part One – Intro
To kick off the show, the guys talked about the news about FX bringing on Michael Green to serve as showrunner for an upcoming Y: The Last Man television series.  It appears that the show is moving even closer to reality.  The guys discussed potential casting and what they hope for in the show.  It is exciting none the less to see that after a long time, with many ups and downs in development, that Y: The Last Man is finally moving towards actual production.
Will also gave a review of Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.  With a new story added to wizarding world, this story is a fine addition.  Overall Will was pleased with the new movie, but tried to give an earnest effort in being critical.  As a friend asked him, between “Arrival” and Fantastic Beasts, which one should they see, the answer is almost a coin toss, both being good in its own right. Take a listen to hear will’s full review, and whether its worth checking out.
    Part Two – Saga
Both Ryan and Will have high praise for Saga, for its incredible story telling and fantastic world that it presents.  This series explores so much of the human condition, which is unique for its non-human characters.  The guys had a lot to say about why the love the series, and that there is so much to love.  As both Ryan and Will have young families, a story that revolves around a young family and their struggles was easily relatable.  This series is definitely an adult series, as it explores sexuality and violence in unique ways.
With a series early in its run, there is still so much to explore, which is exciting for a fan to still have much more to enjoy.  The guys discussed how comic book form is the perfect medium for this series, and how they couldn’t picture it being turned into a TV show or movie.  It is too fantastical and wild to be captured with due dilegence to the original content.

  • Geek Revolution Radio #156 – Doctor Strange
Marvel continues to pump out great films, and it is evident with the addition of Doctor Strange.  They’ve taken a character that some aren’t familiar with and made it a hit.  On this week’s episode the guys discuss the film, the character, and how great Benedict Cumberbatch was in the film. This week is all about Doctor Strange and where he fits in the extending Marvel Universe.

    Part One – Intro
To start out the show, Will gave a review of the new movie Arrival, staring Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner.  This part scifi, part drama, part mystery was a great emotional ride until the end.  Be sure to listen to the show and see why Will says this is one of the greatest scifi films he’s seen in a long time.
The guys also talked there at the end about the current state on the Walking Dead, including where the show is going.  With overall optimisim, the guys did express some displeasure in having episodes that go away from the main group’s story.  You’ve essentially got two episode inbetween the main story.  Overall though, Will and Ryan are pretty happy with how things are shaping up in the story, and look forward to where it goes.
    Part Two – Doctor Strange
Where some heroes gain their super powers from technology, and others gain it through “accidents”, Doctor Strange introduces us to a new form of super power gained through the world of “magic” or mystic arts.  It was an all around great film that didn’t strungle in the story telling.  From a strong lead in Benedict Cumberbatch, to a good villian in Mads Mikkelsen, this movie fulfilled a growing tradition with Marvel and its ability to tell good stories with great characters.  Both Ryan and Will found Doctor Strange to be quite enjoyable.  Take a listen for their full review on the movie, and why it’s worth checking out in 3D.

Part Two – The Walking Dead Season Premiere
The guys also went into great lengths over the season premiere of The Walking Dead.  They analyzed all that was good, and some bad from the episode.  With many mixed reactions from the new episode, both Will and Ryan felt pretty good about the premiere, as well as the direction of the new season.
    Part Three – Tom Cruise
Most would be hard pressed to name at least one Tom Cruise movie they didn’t like.  With a career that spans over three decades, Tom Cruise has done a great deal of amazing work.  From Top Gun to Jack Reacher, both Will and Ryan have a great deal of love for the eccentric actor.  They go into full detail of all the things they love about his work, his movies, and why its dumb to hold his personal life over his amazing work on screen.

There are so many things to love about the Halloween season.  Everything from campy horror films to spooky decorations, the guys at Geek Revolution Radio love this time of year.   From pumpkin carving to costume parties, it is pretty clear that Halloween is upon us.  This week Ryan and Will talk about all there is to love about the season.

    Part One – Intro
To start off the show, the guys dived into Star Wars talk with the potential of a Obi Wan Kenobi spin off film.  As the Disney and Lucas Films start pumping out new Star Wars movies, what are the likelihood that we’ll see Ewan McGregor in his own stand-alone film.  People in the McGregor camp have shown interest in a film of his own, but who knows if Lucas Films will come on board.
The guys also discussed what potential there is for other stand-alone films, as well as live action films.  Both Ryan and Will agree that there is a demand for it, which will definitely be seen in the box office for Rogue One.
    Part Two – Halloween Season
For the main part of the show the guys talked about Halloween and how much the holiday means to the guys.  Halloween has something for all generations.  From kids trick or treating, to adults going to dress up parties, Halloween has so much to offer.  Horror movies alone are enough to get excited for the season, as there that come close to a good scare.
The guys also discussed the film Trick or Treat, and how it is essentially the “Christmas Story” of Halloween.  It represents well all that is good about the Halloween season.  From the campy, cheesy nature of the film, to the folklore and scariness from the film, both Will and Ryan say it is a good way to kick off the Halloween season.
