Horror Review with Miranda – After revisiting the painfully rough first 30 minutes of the 1984 original, expectations were… low.

But Silent Night, Deadly Night has genuinely surprised horror audiences.

It’s sharper, more self-aware, and understands exactly what kind of cult energy it’s playing with.

Still messy, still mean — but this time, intentionally so.

A rare treat for Geeks Out — a live sci-fi stage show!

We chat with the creative team behind Bev and Myrt and the Scrolling of Doom, a joyful, sharp, and slightly unhinged celebration of queer elders, low-budget sci-fi, and modern tech anxiety.

It’s smart, silly, and deeply affectionate — with aliens, Melbourne, and doom-scrolling all rolled into one.

Common Side Effects feels like an unexpected mash-up of dry suburban comedy and sharp scientific curiosity.

It leans into real scientific concepts without dumbing them down, wrapped in animation that’s deceptively casual.

Clever, strange, and quietly biting — the kind of show that makes you laugh first, then think about it later.

This week on Geeks Out, Tamzyn goes solo to review Anaconda — the gloriously dumb, self-aware reboot starring Paul Rudd and Jack Black.

It’s a movie about making a movie about Anaconda, and it absolutely knows it. Expect giant snake idiocy, meta humour, surprise guest appearances (no spoilers), and the kind of “leave your brain at the door” fun that reminds us why popcorn movies exist in the first place.

Tamzyn also shares what it was like watching the film with “little Jase” on his very first Geeks Out cinema outing, dives into the surprisingly Australian filming locations, chats about the playful soundtrack, and explains why — yes — you should definitely stay through the credits.

Eternity is visually elegant and quietly confident, with a subtle, almost storybook rhythm that suits its big themes beautifully.

It plays with ideas of time, love, and permanence without becoming heavy-handed, and just when you think you know where it’s heading, it politely sidesteps expectations.

Warm, inclusive, and surprisingly funny in places — a real heart-warmer.

Rental Family plays in that quiet, emotional space between chosen family and emotional convenience. What starts as a slightly uncomfortable premise slowly becomes a thoughtful exploration of loneliness, connection, and the things we’re willing to pay for when life feels empty.

It’s gentle, reflective, and sneaks up on you when you least expect it — not flashy, but emotionally precise.

Apple TV+ is on fire, and Pluribus might be its most thought-provoking series yet.

Miranda dissects the hive-mind themes, the racial commentary, the illusion of independence, and the show’s commentary on AI and collective labour.

Tamzyn falls down the “would I join the collective?” rabbit hole — torn between terror and the warm fuzzy vibes.

Clayton breaks down why Carol is the perfect unlikeable protagonist and why consent sits at the heart of the entire story.

High-concept, unsettling, and addictive.

Osgood Perkins is back with Keeper, a voyeuristic, dream-logic cabin-in-the-woods journey that leaves you whispering “WTF” in the best (and strangest) way.

Miranda digs into the atmosphere and thematic layers while acknowledging the intentional lack of character grounding.

Clayton unpacks the tight, unsettling camerawork and the brilliance of Tatiana Maslany’s layered performance.

This is indie horror at its most ambiguous — where you make your own meaning, or wander lost in the fog.
