Previously on Geeks Represent, we’ve talked about the importance of health especially when it comes to people of color. However, one of the most neglected aspects of health is that of the mind. If the last few years have shown us anything, it’s that our mental health cannot be taken for granted, and that people of color have been particularly vulnerable due to both systemic racism and culture norms. That’s why it’s so important that mental health issues are accurately portrayed in the media in order to spread awareness and understanding.

Growing up in the 90s when you turned on the tv at primetime, chances were you’d see very few people of color. For many, it was considered diverse if you had one black guy in the cast if there was one at all. But as time went on, we started seeing awesome shows that reminded us that stories didn’t have to be about white people to be successful.
