2:18 – Robert Downey Jr. Returning to The MCU?

Rumors have been flying as far back as Black Widow (pre-COVID) that actor Robert Downey Jr. may reprise his iconic role of Tony Stark in upcoming MCU projects. Those rumors picked up steam in recent months.

First off, I’ll believe it when I see it. Secondly, the main storyline in The MCU involved wiping out and then returning half of the universe’s population. Coming back from the dead would seem like child’s play compared to that.

That said, Here are four upcoming MCU stories. All of which have ways we could see Tony again without having to resurrect him.

Disclaimer: These ideas below are NOT part of the rumors. Just speculation on how Tomy Stark could appear should RDJ decide to return.

Armor Wars

This is the Disney+ series turned feature film that adapts the 1980s comic story of the same name. James Rhodes (Don Cheadle) will suit up in this tale of stolen Stark industries tech being used to make power suits for nefarious purposes. “Rhodey” was Tony’s best friend, so it would be a natural fit to utilize unused footage or even film new scenes as flashback sequences. RDJ’s return alone would theoretically be a good reason to give Armor Wars a bigger budget and release it as a feature film.

Secret Wars

Mainstream outlets reported rumors of Downey appearing in the upcoming Phase Six film Secret Wars. While there have been multiple stories called Secret Wars in Marvel Comics, this film will likely be an adaption of the 2015 version, which merged the regular Marvel Universe (aka The 616 Universe) with the Ultimate Universe. These current MCU phases are collectively called The Multiverse Saga. A Multiverse means multiple Tony Starks. Whether or not other Tonys will show up remains to be seen.

On top of those two MCU releases, there are two more that could fill in the background as to how the events of Armor Wars come to pass.

Secret Invasion

Secret Invasion is the next MCU TV series that will air later this year on Disney+. Samuel L’ Jackson’s Nick Fury takes center stage to deal with shapeshifting Skrulls who have infiltrated Earth and posed as existing heroes and MCU characters. Thus, we could see a Skrull posing as Rhodey to steal the Stark industries tech used in Armor Wars. Heck, we could even see one pose as Stark himself, depending on when the series takes place.

We thought it was a given that Henry Cavill was back as Superman in his famous mid-credits cameo in October’s Black Adam. However, Cavill himself gave this update on his Instagram. It seems the story behind Cavill’s cameo was not as simple as we were led to believe.

The decision not to use Cavill came from Gunn & Co. since they will be rebooting Supes with a new, younger actor. Why they are choosing a younger actor is anybody’s guess, but it likely has to do with this being the first step in a 10-year revamp plan.

So what does this mean for Black Adam? The Rock himself posted this on his Instagram. Gunn retweeted that Instagram post with supportive thanks.

We know this is a 10-year plan. Gunn confirmed there will be Elseworlds stories. Could this be another Crisis? Kingdom Come?

Indy 5 leads the trio of trailers from this past month. Seth flies solo to analyze and predict what’s in store for the summer based on what we see in these trailers.

1:00 – Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

The first trailer for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny debuted this week. The film whips its way into theaters in June 2023. Will this still go by Young Indy continuity? Time travel?

6:50 – Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 drops in May. The first trailer dropped this past week as well. Who are The High Evolutionary, Lyla, and Adam Warlock? If yo don’t know, you will after hearing this.

15:15 – The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Fans seemed to not be so accepting of Chris Pratt as Marion. That said, Jack Black as Bowser is genius!

Seth flies solo to talk about the continuing fallout of the WBD merger and the ongoing changes James Gunn may be making in future DC movies.

1:35 – News

Legendary Pictures and Sony inked a multi-year deal. A split with WBD had been rumored for some time. We discussed the possibility a few episodes back in episode 310. This new partnership will not affect the current deal Legendary has with WBD for Dune: Part Two. Other franchises like the Monsterverse/Godzilla movies, or the Enola Holmes movie series were not specified as being affected or not.

4:38 – James Gunn update

Gunn was named the head of DCU last month. Since then, he responded to speculation about the future of the DCU on Twitter. He later mentioned that Superman will be a focal point in his plans.

7:35 – Wonder Woman 3 and Batman Beyond scrapped

WBD canceled Patty Jenkins’s untitled third Wonder Wonder movie. Early speculation linked James Gunn to the reason why it was canceled. However, more recent articles reported that Jenkins was removed as director and the film will simply find a new director.

Another recently scrapped movie was allegedly an adaption of Batman Beyond in which Michael Keaton would reprise his role as Bruce Wayne. How far along the film was in production is unknown.

13:40 – Jason Momoa stepping down from Aquaman?

James Gunn triggered much speculation when he tweeted an image of DC’s “Main Man” Lobo. Now rumors persist that Jason Momoa may take on the role. This, of course, would leave his future as Aquaman in doubt. Could he do both?

21:00 – Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania trailer

The first official trailer of Ant-Man and The Wasp gave us glimpses of Kang The Conqueror in his classic comic-inspired look. And since the trailer is set to “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road by Elton John, it could be a twisted version of The Wizard of Oz.

28:00 – RIP Kevin Conroy

Kevin Conroy passed away at the age of 66. He’s best known for being the voice of Batman in multiple TV shows and games. However, he did do a lot of stage and TV acting prior to landing the Batman gig.

He may be the first actor to use remarkably different voices for Batman and Bruce Wayne. This is something that has been since utilized in other Batman media (movies, comics, etc…).

Conroy provides the voice of Hordak for the upcoming second season of Kevin Smith’s He-Man: Revelation before his passing. So fans will still be able to enjoy one last performance, even if it isn’t as The Caped Crusader.

Our latest inductee into The Lesser Known Geek Hall Of Fame is our second real-life person and the first living person at the time of this recording.

Jeffrey Combs grew up in California and studied acting at The University of Washington. He is mostly known for horror films, but he also has an extensive background in science-fiction and voice roles.

His first and probably best-known starring role was as Herbert West in the 1985 film Re-Animator, which was based on an HP Lovecraft short story. Not only did Combs play West, but he would also go on to play Lovecraft himself. This means he played both the character and its creator.

Lovecraft wasn’t the only author Combs portrayed. He also played Edgar Allen Poe and L Frank Baum. Other prominent horror projects he appeared in include The Frighteners, and another Lovecraft adaption From Beyond.

Combs is no stranger to sci-fi either. He’s played multiple roles in various Star Trek shows over the year, including Deep Space Nine where he played two separate characters in the same episode. He also was the title role in Dr. Mordrid, which was an unofficial adaption of Marvel’s Dr. Strange.

On top of all that, Combs has an impressive resume of voice roles, including The Question in Justice League Unlimited, The Leader in Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and Ratchet in several Transformers shows and games. He again portrayed HP Lovecraft in the animated movie Howard Lovecraft and the Kingdom of Madness.
