In this episode of Generation Red: A Husker Podcast, Scott and I talk specifically about Dylan Raiola's surprise unofficial visit to Lincoln last weekend. Over the course of about 30 minutes, we examine the meaning behind the visit, the motivation for Dylan's ultimate decision of where to go play college ball, the crazy fun that was him throwing the bones at a sold-out PBA, the crazy news cycle that was around that weekend, and then we give our percentage chances of him ending up in Lincoln.

This is the start of a new type of content that we plan to release during the off-season. They will be focused, single-topic episodes that we are branding as GenRedPods. Shorter name. Shorter shows. Good content.

In this episode of Generation Red: A Husker Podcast, we are back for second show in a series of pro-con debates about topics related to Husker football, or college football as a whole. This is the Big Red Roundtable, featuring the Cousins from the Husker Cuz Cast.

On the docket tonight is a shorter, more compact episode covering one topic, and one topic ONLY: non-playoff bowl games, and what we believe are some pros and cons them. After sharing our individual pros and cons, of course the Cousins unleash their pent-up need to argue and we find ourselves traveling down many roads leading to nowhere. However, the entertainment value is absolutely priceless on this one!

This is a new format we will be using this off season. Half-hour pre-recorded episodes that will drop on Wednesdays instead of Mondays while we await the start of the 2023 season. Weekly content. Better content. Less arguing...sort of.

On this episode of Generation Red: A Husker Podcast, the Cousins are BACK! It's been awhile since we hung out with Justin, Derrick, and Tyler on a livestream, but that is exactly what is on tap for this show. In fact, it is our first off-season installment of The Big Red Roundtable; the once-a-month show where we hang out with the cousins, and talk all things Husker football while waiting for the 2023 season. On this show, we will go over the results of the 2022 Over-Under Game that we played back in August.

Anyway, it's always a hoot to hang out with these guys, and we look forward to the monthly Roundtables in the future. We plan to have a few off-season Husker Fan Hangout streams as well, which are a relaxed show format that features YOU. The Husker fan. No notes. No outlines. No research. Just off the cuff video hangouts about our favorite Husker topics. It's like the breakroom at work, but on a computer. On this episode of Generation Red: A Husker Podcast, Scott and I gladly welcome back our buddy Bryan Knutzen from the Husker Army Podcast, and we are talking about all things Matt Rhule. The Huskers newest Head Football Coach was welcomed into Lincoln with great fanfare. My wife and I were there at Gate 20, cheering like crazy as he walked through a throng of Husker fans. AD Trev Alberts introduced him at the top of the steps, and then Coach gave a few remarks. After that, he tossed 5 autographed footballs into the crowd, one of which my wife caught. It's behind my left shoulder in the counter window into our kitchen.

We will talk about the hiring and the crazy whirlwind that surrounded it, including the tragic news from the household of Mickey Joseph. We won't talk extensively about that situation, except to say that all of our thoughts and prayers are with the ENTIRE Joseph household, and we hope that the full truth of what happened that day will come to light, no matter how difficult it is for us to know.

We'll take a quick look at the assistants that Coach Rhule has brought so far to Lincoln, and discuss about some roster changes and recruit decommits. Then we'll turn our attention to the future.

Today's episode of Generation Red: A Husker Podcast is oh so sweet! Over the next hour or so, Scott and I revel in three days of good news: First, there's the ginormous victory in Iowa City on Friday, where Nebraska upsets Iowa 24-17; and then the Athletic Department announces Matt Rhule as its new Head Coach on Saturday, and here we are, celebrating both on a Sunday. Nothing feels better than beating that stinky, stuck up, and sucky-corn-growing state to the east of us. Also, nothing is better than knowing they’re not going to Indianapolis. And finally, nothing is better than finding out yesterday that a long coaching search is finally over; and in spite of the reticence among those in the fan base who wanted a big-time “splash” hire, the Huskers have their man in Matt Rhule.

But we’re not covering his hiring on this show today, even though we really want to. After he's had his introductory press conference on Monday, and has hopefully assembled a staff that includes Mickey Joseph and Bill Busch. we will join a few friends from other Husker podcasts next Sunday afternoon at 4:30 CST to discuss our new head coach.

Instead tonight, we want to talk about the huge win over Iowa on Friday afternoon, and the pure joy that is taking the Heroes Trophy back to Lincoln, where it belongs; and it will be here to welcome the Hawkeyes into Memorial Stadium next November. We will give our overall impressions of the game, cover the stats, give out our final Game-Breaker and Game-Wrecker of the Week awards, and then rate the offense, defense and ST on a scale of 1-10.

After that, we will have a special segment dedicated to the difference Bill Busch made on this team in just 8 games as the Huskers’ DC. We’ll compare and contrast the stats from 4 years and 4 games under Eric Chinander to what Coach Busch accomplished from Indiana thru Iowa. It should make for a compelling case to keep him on Coach Rhule’s new staff for 2023. If not at DC, then at least let him coach safeties and Special Teams. In my opinion, it is nearly as important as retaining Mickey for the purposes of both recruiting, and staff continuity in all 3 phases of the game.

In full disclosure, the original intent of this show was to discuss a common Top 3 list of candidates; but due to my embarrassing decision to enjoy too many adult beverages, we never reached that point in the discussion. Also, this episode is heavily edited down from it original run time of 1 hour and 12 minutes, because no one really wants to listen to a drunken fool host a video podcast. Too many embarrassing moments for me to feel comfortable airing on this channel. My deepest apologies to all the other panelists for my irresponsibility in not finishing the discussion we had originally intended to have.

Regardless of my own stupidity, it was STILL a great discussion. All four of us share our Top 5, with Scott dropping an interesting twist on the discussion.
