Addicted to Ty and Zane

Listening to this book is like visiting old friends. I read and re read this book many times and the audio version did not disappoint. If you are not a fan of the series and have not read all the other books, I'm not sure you will get as much out of this book. The real appeal in this alpha/alpha relationship is how they got to this point. The secondary story in this book is almost incidental. The other couple in this story makes more sense if you read Warrior's Cross, (their story), But you can still enjoy the book if you haven't read Warrior's Cross. Sean Crisden does a great job with everyone's voices EXCEPT Cam's. He made him sound like a sniveling weasel and he really is a great character (I've read Warrior's Cross). Regardless, this is a must for any Ty and Zane fans while we patiently wait for the release of Stars & Stripes and hopefully Touche & Geux on audio.

Finally back together again!

The characters have have become like family members whose dysfunctional relationship in a world of machismo has morphed slowly into being able to accept themselves for who they are. I have to admit that as a gay man I wish there was a little more erotic diversity, but this is a romance novel. I would love to chat with the author about a woman's interest in gay male fiction and perspective. I definitely like the idea of a committed relationship, but would also be more "into it" if there as more description of physical detail. I always hated porn until I found the rare explicit sex video imbedded in a story.

Probably Andrew Grey's Best

I loved this book! After reading almost all of Andrew Grey's "Love Means..." series, which all follow a similar storyline and the same setting, it is a refreshing change. The characters are likeable and the story is easy to follow. I can't wait to listen again!

Pretty good story. Poor narration

The story is sweet, but uneven. For example two of the main characters are in the car heading west on vacation. They run into a huge tornado large enough to level houses and move cars and they are caught in the middle of it under an overpass. You'd think something that horrific would be part of the plot, or part of the character development, but it never went anywhere. It was never mentioned again except to say to their friends that they were in a tornado on their way out west.

The worst of the book is the narration. I feel Mr. Gelder never read the book before he narrated it. It is very clear the author expected the main character, Dakota to have a "deep, raspy voice". It's actually part of the story line. But Mr Gelder decided on a high, whiny voice instead. Dakota is a muscular ranch owner. I really didn't want to have his voice be wimpy. Major disappointment. The object of Dakota's affection is a slight, young man. Gelder decided to give him the deeper voice. The women's voices and Dakota's voices are indistinguishable. And most everyone has some odd accent that I can't quite place.

I think this may be a book better read than listened to.

Missed Many Marks For Me

Where do I begin? Well, the story felt unnatural, kind of contrived. I finally stopped listening when out of the blue, a very minor character suddenly announces his homosexuality out of nowhere for really no good reason that has anything to do with anything in a strange attempt to add drama, where none was really needed. I had great sympathy for the protagonist wanting to take care of his sick father, but by dropping out of medical school? Really?? Does the author know how incredibly difficult it is to get into medical school and how incredibly proud his father would be to have his son complete that arduous journey not to mention he deprived some poor soul of that spot in his class? Disgusting actually.

The narration was confusing to me, trying to add accents and inflections that never made any sense to me not to mention his attempts to do female voices was very poor.

From the word 'GO' the journey of who 'dunnit' intrigues the reader, at least until near the end of the story. Though I suspected who the culprit was, I was often left questioning my conclusion several times throughout the tale. Lanyon is a great writer and he enthralls the reader to the very end of the story. Though I will confess that I felt that it dragged in some areas, understanding the specifics of the budding relationship between Perry and Nick added to the mystery. I almost was more caught up in that dynamic than the man with the hole in his shoe and the mystery. Almost...

Enjoyable story, Narrator gets better

I recently discovered Josh Lanyon, in the Adrien English series, and was eager to read this story which I think is one of his early novels? The story was excellent, keeping in mind it was a much earlier example of his art.

Sometimes I enjoy a writer's work so much I forget to check out the audio sample to see if I like the narrator, before I buy the audio version. Because I require a narrator, not a reader, to fully enjoy an audiobook.

This narrator, Max Miller, at first almost disappointed me, the voice seemed so lacking in energy and the narration was flat. But liking the Josh Lanyon stories so much, I persevered, and thankfully found the narration quickly improved. The individual voices become well delineated after the first couple of chapters, and the background narration itself picks up energy and rhythm as the story progresses.

I am in the midst of reading and listening to all the Josh Lanyon novels I can find, and I definitely would buy another one narrated by Max Miller.

Hardly a Ghost Story

Perhaps not a true ghost story, but it is a great story. And it is both entertaining and thought provoking since it is a "who done it" type of story. It is also a decent piece of gay fiction that pairs unlikely lovers in a unique setting. I liked it a lot.

Great murder mystery

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would totally recommend this book to friends as it is a good, old-fashioned (with a twist or two) murder mystery set in a crumbling mansion. The action (of all sorts!) proceeds at a nice pace, tension building to a great finish. The supporting characters add local color and this listener could really imagine himself at the scene of the action.

Which character as performed by Max Miller was your favorite?

I really liked Nick- everything you expect in a Navy Seal and more. Miller's acting (it's really more than just reading) is fantastic, accents and all. He captured the characters so well.

I would have loved to listen to this book in one sitting. However, I mostly listened during my public transit/walking commute to work.

Oil and Water...

Oil and water may not mesh, but David and Seth do. He's everything I never knew I wanted...what a catch phrase. A little mystery, a little romance, and a well placed ring all serve as perfect ingredients for a great story. Excellent narration. Entertaining and enjoyable!!!

Amusing with a bit of facepalming

Overall the story is amusing, but it also made me facepalm a few times when Seth was being particularly stupid haha. He could be embarrassing at times in a way that made me a bit annoyed at him but on the other hand that also made him more real.

David... I would like to read the story from his point of view *small smile*

I rather liked the narrator, I felt that he did a good job with the characters's different voices.

Rough and still adorable

Seth and David are two sides of the same coin, rough and hard to sweet and thoughtful but both are sexy as hell. This has a good story and a great narrator, the characters are believable and well crafted. It also had me laughing out loud at some parts and talking back to my headphones, "you did not just say that!" Very entertaining.

I purchased this mainly because of Shannon Gunn being the narrorator. He did such a good job on the Temptation series I looked for more books done by him. He did good with this book too, and the story kept me entertained!

Eroticism with a plot

Not for everyone.

I personally stumbled on it because I grew bored and tired of the interchangeable muscular alpha males in the hetero romance section and the female airheads serving as heroine.

There is A LOT of sex that goes quite well with the plot.

I prefer this last volume over the first one. Never understood the attraction nor liked Joran with the old instructor. There was a lot of their coupling in volume 1.

The narrator, when doing sir Roy's voice, is too theatrical in my opinion.

Worth a credit? Well if you aren't shy...YES!

Loved it! The story and narration was compelling and I will listen to it again.

Magic, is wonderful! But truth is better

The narration was excellent! My favorite moments were the moment when the characters were all chatting together and you forgot about the narration and you got into the story that tells you that the narrator was excellent.

A lot of sex

I dont think i ever read a book where the sexual relationship acually plays a vital role in the story in a way that everyting in the story is depending on how "well" they do it. Weird but it sort of works - the story is still well thought-through.

Voraciously satisfying!

If hot frequent male/male sexual dominance, submission with both romantic and violent intent is what you are looking for, look no further. It's all there in this two volume masterpiece complete with a believable good and evil plot of magical world domination. The whip, the lash, a spanking and more mixed with magic, soldiers, generals and mages around the center story of a Prince and his whipping boy. If you are into BDSM themes in a "Camelot"-like setting, run, don't walk to get to this tale!

Amazing Story...once you get past the narration.

What did you love best about The Locker Room?

Amy Lane never fails to run her characters through the wringer. No matter if it's one of her sweeter, happier tales or an angsty one, all of her guys EARN their happy ending.

What other book might you compare The Locker Room to and why?

I can't compare Amy Lane's work to anything but her others, Keeping Promise Rock, and the Talker series and any other that involve such character torture leading to a happy ending that's so satisfying.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Michael Anthony?

My automatic response is Sean Crisden, but really, Michael Anthony's performance could have been much, much better if he stopped overacting. No really, you don't have to act out every sigh, gasp, laugh, sob, and (cringe) moan. The reader has enough imagination to figure out what a man having a orgasm sounds like (and if we don't, we can watch porn). Some of the part of the dialogue was really hard to hear because he was trying too hard. He's got a great voice, and I would totally get another book if he did it, only if he cut that overacting bit out.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Other than "Oh God, really?" during all the lovescenes (see my response to the narrator questions), the actual work makes me tear up at places. These boys love the hell out of each other, and their devotion make me wibble. Seriously.

Excellent, from start to finish...

I realized that I had this book since 2013 and that I had not listened to it. I have now completed all of the Men of Smithfield stories and let me just say that this one, Max and Finn, is my all time favorite. The story was smooth and flowed, with little not no hiccups. The connection between Finn and Max was intense and it remained throughout the book. The subplot was equally intriguing and left me guessing until the end...I realized who it was just as soon as Finn did. As usual, Shannon Gunn was fantastic and brought so much to the story. An excellent romance/mystery/day-to-day story and I certainly would and do recommend.

Very enjoyable

The mystery was well written and surprising, but realistic. I liked Tony and Mark (first book in series) more as a couple, but Max and Finn are hotter.

More than hot Sex

This story is so much more than you expect. The characters are compelling and the plot keeps you on the edge of your seat. I was left wanting to experience much more of Max and Finn and Smithfield.

And boom!

This book doesn't take any time in immersing the listener into the lives of Max and Finn. The chemistry between these two characters is awesomely hot. Lots of foreplay via bickering and touches. Shannon Gunn - you're an incredible narrator!

Come and get some.

Now, I don't know L.B. personally, but anyone who can write such funny scenes, thoughts, and put us readers right smack into an emotional crisis of will, is A-OK with me.

SO, I don't want to give too much of the plot away, but I was sooo entranced with the initial smex scene between Max and Finn. First off, how brave was Finn to initiate the act? I have to hand it to him, I'm a book worm a lot of the time. And, I deal in numbers and sit in my office all day, and so I'm not the 'lose control' type. Ok, let me be honest, I'm a complete control freak, I know it, and now you do too... so getting back to Finn. The reason I applaud him is because smex is the best way to 'lose control', but in a 'good' way, you know? So kudos to him to take that step and not care how much he was perceived as a hoe. LOL.

I'm so comfortable with the submission aspect, so I loved Max's dirty talk. Phew! *wipes brow* and he can call me a "dirty bitch" annnnyyyytime he wants. :P

Maybe, this was an OK read, you just had to suspend any expectation of a realistic story line. Also there were some pretty big plot holes. But it wasn't "painful" to listen to like some other books.

Did Jeff Gelder do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

He did OK, he is getting better. His narration is still a little "wooden" But again, it wasn't a bad listen.

Could you see Signed and Sealed being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

This is a Harlequinn Romance novel. The MCs could be a pirate and a damsel he "kidnapped" b/c her father owed him a debt. It is actually pretty funny (unintentionally). That said, it is still a nice romance. But be warned, I though Eli was an a**hole and my opinion didn't change even with the HEA.

I thought the narrator was great. The voices were easy to differentiate and the words were easy to understand.

Liked the book but not the narration

I read this book way back when and it was an enjoyable read to just sort of escape and suspend belief a bit. Cute and fun. So I figured I would try the audio.

I couldn't make it halfway. Monotone, no character inflection and the way the narrator pronounced "asked" and "ask" was supremely irritating.

Another winner

Truly enjoying Charlie belmonts narration. The story is sweet and loving and has an HEA. Love Ava March.

Nice, Sweet Romance

I would give the story 3.5 stars and the narrator 5 stars. This is a really sweet MM romance set in gothic England. I didn't like it as much as the first book, but it was enjoyable. The only issue I had is the HFN ending; I like HEA. It was a little unsatisfying. I found myself saying, but what now?. The length of the novella does not warrant a credit, but it is a good on sale read.

Really enjoyed! Great narration,

Ava March is just a master at historical romance. Even though I thought that I was going to 2 or 3 star this up until 50% of the way through the book, Ava March turned things around and made me love this one.

First of all, props to Charlie Belmont, who narrated this book LIKE A BOSS. I really adored his narration, and I'll be looking for more audiobooks from him in the future.

This book started out difficult for me because Julian was such a user-McUser-face. I wanted to bitch slap him, like for REAL. However, Julian just turns the whole thing around near the end, and I was a mushy-gooey pile in the palm of Ava March's hand. Love her.

Sure, this wasn't as hot or kinky as other books from this author, but I love a good redemption story. This was a quick and VERY satisfying listen.

3 1/2 Stars for a pretty charming historical

I like these short very romantic, quite steamy, audiobooks in this series. Heartwarming nice stories for dark winter listenings days. Pleasant narrated as well. - Another little gem.

Nice little story

This story was very easy to listen to. It managed to keep a light and pleasant tone despite dealing with some heavy topics like anxiety, coming to terms with being gay and dealing with loved ones being away for war. But it also never felt like those problems were not real or important.

All in all a lovely little story.

A little slow for my liking but a sweet story

I found this book a little bit challenging to review, struggling to separate the story from the narration because I actually listened to the audio book (narrated by Charlie Belmont) rather than reading the story.

The reason I found it challenging was because I found the story a little slow moving and it was hard to determine if this was mainly driven by the story itself or from the speed of the narration. I have a feeling that if I had been reading this myself and at my own fairly rapid pace, it may not have felt quite so drawn out. I would like to give it the benefit of the doubt and say the slowness was mainly due to the narration speed (from past experience I usually find the pace of audio books a little bit slow for my liking).

The story follows Mark, incredibly shy with a diagnosed condition that has prevented him forming relationships, who moves in with his sister-in-law to support her through the last months of her pregnancy while his brother is deployed overseas. Mark meets Seth and they are attracted but his condition means Mark needs to overcome some hurdles if they are to be together.

I liked that Mark had finally found a man worth trying to break through his own barriers for. I liked that Seth took things slowly and was prepared to handle a unique relationship that didn't consist of a lot of face-to-face time. It was quite interesting to see Seth relate to his rescue greyhound and encourage the dog to trust and venture into the world and see the same occur with Mark.

I wanted to love Mark but for some reason, although understanding the difficulties he faced in life, I found him slightly annoying. There was a repetitiveness to his thoughts and actions that irritated me slightly (plus all the references to 'he blinked', 'Mark blinked at him'...)

The other characters were engaging - Seth, sister-in-law Lisa, friend Claire and brother Pete. Plus the dogs were cute!

So all in all, quite a nice and sweet story with some lovely lines...

"Besides you're not a greyhound Mark. You're a bulldog. Tough and wary, loyal as all get-out, not easy to get close to and you know, that intrigued me but once inside what do I find but this huge heart. I'd be the crazy one to walk away from you." He grinned.
