It was a good book. A solid 4 stars. I wasn't on the edge of my seat in anticipation but I was curious enough in how the plot would play out. The dynamic between the two was interesting enough, if not predictable.
Sweet story but TERRIBLE narration!
What would have made Promises better?
A better narrator. Very honestly, he ruined the entire book for me.

I didn't make it to the end of the book before I lost interest and started a different story.
What didnt you like about Mark L. Joness performance?
No emotion! It sounded like this was the first time he had ever read the book. He was monotone and just terrible.
What character would you cut from Promises?
All charaters were fine - wouldn't cut any.

It is too bad that there wasn't a better narrator. A good narrator could have made this simple, sweet story MUCH more enjoyable and worth the money. Save your money and read the book to yourself.
Great Story, Poor Narrator
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Mixed. The story is very moving and romantic. The narrator was so flat that it killed a great deal of the enjoyment. With two male main characters, it is essential that you are able to tell them apart in the narration, but I couldn't. I really would like the the rest of the series on audio, but it is the same narrator, so I think I'm going to pass.
How could the performance have been better?
More inflection, differentiated voices. Better timing. There were no pauses in really important places, like changes from one chapter to the next--though I guess that is the fault of the editor.
Love the story, not so much the narrator
What made the experience of listening to Promises the most enjoyable?
I've read the book already, and loved the story.
What did you like best about this story?
Unexpected love is always enjoyable to hear about.

The narrator totally pulled me out of the story. He was rushed, mispronounced words, and had no emotion.
If you could take any character from Promises out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Jared, of course. He's so sweet. And I'd love to see his curls.

Enjoyed the story line, it was funny in parts. I enjoy books that can make me laugh and have enjoyable love scenes.
