Good story and performance...BAD audio quality

The story is good and so is the performance, but the audio is very poor quality. I could tell she was reading the story very well, but there was background noise along with other bad quality audio.

Mediocre story with amateurish narration

Hearing the sound of a chair scraping or sirens in the background was distracting enough, but the narrator's attempts to "act" out her role was horrendous. The only reason I listened through to the end was that I was on a long trip with nothing else downloaded.

They invented soundproof rooms for a reason

I didn't mind this book overall, but I spent so much time distracted by the fact that it sounded like the narrator was in her bedroom, bathroom, car, lounge room doing the narration. At one point I am 99% sure I heard someone doing dishes in the background. The sound levels vary so a few chapters will be at one volume and then you can hardly hear it for the next few. Editing wasn't the greatest and having 'end of chapter x' at the end of each chapter was a tad annoying. I feel a little bad as I didn't mind the overall narration style, it was just very distracting when I am used to 'standard' narration sound quality.

Cringeworthy, cliche, poorly read. Avoid!

This is the first time I've truly hated a book. The main character is awful, a narcissistic idiot who I couldn't warm to so I didn't care what happened to her. I listened to this while on a long drive with no alternatives so I made it the whole way through but it was a challenge. I rolled my eyes at the terrible writing at least a dozen times. I'll be avoiding this author and narrator from now on.

This is a woman scorned, gets, even, and comes out ahead story, with lots of comedy and snarkiness! Gemma catches her boyfriend Dalton cheating on her and leaves him, then months later he recommends her to photograph his upcoming wedding, just to be cruel to her...well this doesnt stop her, and hilarity..drama and new romance happens...and I couldn't stop listening!!! I RECOMMEND!!!

What was one of the most memorable moments of My Ex-Boyfriend's Wedding?

Perhaps when Jemma catches Dalton cheating with Stacy or when Jemma realizes Dalton purposely kissed her right in front of Tony. Maybe when Jemma drinks all of Dalton's expensive wine while being locked in his wine cellar or when Jemma spots Kate tied up in Dalton's trailer. Tough choice as there are lots of memorable moments.

Have you listened to any of Melissa Morans other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but she has a very fun and light quality to her voice, so I will look for other books she has done.

Yes, this book makes you laugh. It has a lot of comedic situations and the narrator captures them perfectly. It is also a bit steamy. Not too graphic, but it definitely contains adult scenes.

I laughed, I cried what a wild ride!

Okay, full disclosure here. I share a name with the author of the book because well, I am the author of the book. But if politicians get to vote for themselves I figured I was entitled to leave myself a nice review. In all honesty and seriousness though, I will tell you this:

My expectations going into this project were great indeed, as I felt given its madcap protagonist Lester Ginn and motley supporting cast of characters, it lent it self quite well to a performance medium. In fact, I first wrote the story as a screenplay, as for a feature length film -- and a big budget one at that! Then, using that as a sort of outline, I fleshed out the entire novel, a process which took almost 10 years and nearly drove me insane.

Anyway, I was thrilled to find an immense talent like Doug Thornton to narrate the book, but when he started feeding me the produced chapters, I listened with great trepidation. Not because I was afraid Doug wouldn't do justice to the work, but because I was afraid the work wasn't really any good to begin with!

Well, thank God I my fears were quickly put to rest. The story came to life in a way I never could have imagined, in full technicolor, transcending the words I put down in black and white years ago. And yes, I did laugh. And yes, I did cry.

I think you will greatly enjoy this audiobook. Please give it a listen.

A Democratic Trump-A Political Comedy for Everyone

What made the experience of listening to Off the Reservation the most enjoyable?

The narrator has a clear, lively voice that matches the story perfectly. His delivery is witty. The story is brilliantly funny. It captures today's political frustration with Washington politics. The story makes penetrating political observations while remaining light-hearted.

What did you like best about this story?

It is totally hilarious and incredibly entertaining. I was laughing so much that my husband came into the kitchen from to join me in listening. This story is like a much smarter version of the movie "Bulworth."

Which scene was your favorite?

The television interview where Congressman Gorgoni commits political suicide. Or the conversation between the liberal Congressman and the Republican boy dating his daughter. That was hilarious.

Who was the most memorable character of Off the Reservation and why?

The main character Evan Gorgoni is pretty memorable. He is a politician that is tired of politics. He is a man that wants to be true to himself despite the political cost, and he finds himself forced to run for president. The Republican kid is also a memorable minor character, and I liked the dog named Filibuster.

I received this book free in exchange for an honest review. It is awesome. Try it, you'll love it.

Real commentary in a fun easy listen

Off the reservation makes you wish Gorgoni would jump out of the page and run in real life. I didnt always agree with some of the things Gorgoni said. Some of the things he focused on were weird (spoiler alert: stickers on fruit make a campaign appearance). Despite this I still loved his character. Some of the speeches in this book are not only funny, but bring up real issues (none of the distraction politics we are getting used to now).

The narrator does a good job. The press conferences and speeches especially sound like you are listening to a real person.

Way Off The Reservation-Only .5 Before Giving Up

I RARELY turn off a book before finishing, *especially when I've been asked to listen to it in exchange for an unbiased review-as was the case here.

I HATE writing less than glowing reviews. I believe it takes a lot of work, time and effort to put a book out there and one is very brave to do it.

Classic Hancock

Classic Hancock. The series was well into it's stride now, with regulars Sid James, Bill Kerr and Kenneth Williams supporting 'the lad 'imself'. The writing is classic Galton & Simpson. The quality of some episodes is 'vintage' (usually episodes recovered from off-air recordings), but it doesn't detract too much from the enjoyment to be had from these episodes. Hancock still stands as a landmark series of radio comedy and is rightly considered a classic.

Fabulous classic radio comedy

Can't ignore the similarities - cast and gags - with the 'Carry On' films of my childhood. Sid James, Kenneth Williams and Hattie Jacques.

A fantastic radio series.

Note error - the final episode, 'The Last of the McHancocks' is repeated at the end

you have 2-3 hours and on a weekend. grab a cup of coffee and enjoy this nice audio book narrated very well for you.

Good tale for a light hearted laugh

If you could sum up Sex, Lies and Chocolate Cakes in three words, what would they be?

Short, but funny.

What did you like best about this story?

It it written in a style that I love - diary! I love the Bridget Jones and Adrian Mole style of writing and comedy in everyday life. Just a normal bloke, living everyday life: wife induced dieting, dealing with teenagers, stalking the cat from next door, avoiding the advances of a work colleague and sexting for the over 40's.

What aspect of Steve Whites performance might you have changed?

This was not the greatest narration. I can't quite put my finger on why, although the attempt at the female voice wasn't quite right. None the less I enjoyed the story, and the funny parts definatley came through in the narration.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I could have listened to it in one sitting as it is very short, but also, I found it funny enough that I could have done so if I had the time.

I need to know what happens next! The story ended in a way that a follow up could easily be done.
