A good, good intro to Rupert Brooke
What did you love best about Rupert Brooke?
I liked the format very much, hearing the passionate sensual, lush, musical poetry of Rupert Brooke, as well as a well spoken, well-paced and informative accompanying story of his life, which sadly ended much too young. I'll listen to this again. However, can't give it five stars because it's not one of those few books that I am compelled to recommend to family, friends, acquaintances and even strangers.
LISTEN TO THE BEST OF POETRY!
I am very happy with my purchase of the audible 'Rupert Brooke - His Life and Poetry' by Mike Read. Rupert Brooke's Poetry simply comes to 'life' when recited by Douglas Hodge. One can 'read' poetry but I find the best way to enjoy good poetry is having it recited in a manner that one is transported to a time and place when one can visualize the world of the Poet....in this instance the world of Rupert Brooke. At times 'words' so powerful ...Poetry so beautiful...left me breathless. Poetry stirs up emotions and takes one to a very special mythical place. I loved The narration by Mike Read ...who gave a thorough insight into the life and times of Rupert Brooke. It was fascinating to learn so much about this Poet who died so young and who was so full of confidence...a brilliant Poet so very talented. His death came so suddenly and unexpectedly. A special touch was a poem of Rupert's narrated by someone he once loved. I highly recommend this audible for lovers of good poetry. I continue to enjoy the benefits of Poetry well read.

    Editorial Reviews:
Unlike Stanley Kubricks satirical film, this story of power and politics and mass annihilation is true. The Real Dr. Strangelove is a dramatized performance that recounts the life of Hungarian physicist Edward Teller, the highly controversial figure whos also known as "the father of the H-bomb", the precursor to the atomic bomb developed by his friend turned philosophical rival Robert Oppenheimer.
Narrated with cool and quick delivery by Simon Templeton, Joe Spano, and John de Lancie, and recorded in front of a live audience, this audio allows the listener to convincingly delve deep into Tellers complicated and fascinating life.

Science, Drama, & History make a Great Story of Fear & Betrayal
I first heard "The Real Dr. Strangelove" on my National Public Radio station's airing of LA Theatre Works. Then I purchased a copy from Amazon. Since, I have shared "Real Dr. Strangelove" with my nuclear scientist brother.
Two scientist in moral conflict, begets a story of the U.S.A.'s Nuclear weapons race. In the early Cold War years, Dr. Edward Teller undermines Dr. Robert Oppenhiemer.
As I enjoyed the drama, I felt comfort that Goodchild got the fact correct. Author Peter Goodchild has published nonfiction books of the two scientist.

    Publisher's Summary:
Hundreds of people submitted recordings of Shakespeare, Wordsworth, and Roger McGough in an attempt to win a prize: Participation in the recording of this new poetry collection by Christina Hardyment, historian and audiobook reviewer for The Times.
This collection covers a wide range of classics by Shakespeare, Keats, Clare, Blake, and others, as well as modern poems by Roger McGough, among others. They are read mainly by the male and female first-prize winners, but also by the runners-up.
    Editorial Reviews:
Readers Sandra Douglas Weir and David Pepper are joined by winners of the Voice of the Year poetry competition. No matter who is reading or what is being read, the delivery is uniformly professional. What's more, it always fits both the overall tone of the collection and the specific focus of the winter-themed poems included here. The pace is often leisurely, and the selections range across several centuries and cultures.
    Members Reviews:
    Outstanding! An Inspiring Collection!
I love Audible's books on Longfellow, Keats, and the Classic 100. But this one stands alone to me. Winters are long here, and this work is wonderful to listen to anywhere. The narrating is done very well, and you will come back to this recording again and again.
I write poetry myself, and I enjoy the well known authors and even the seldom heard works like "The Way of Wood" will appeal to any one who burns firewood, as it tells of the different uses and characteristics of different wood.
It is August, and I confess I've been listening to this one already...again.
