AudioBook Review:

I have read and reviewed this title in eBook format, after devouring the full length novels in the Countermeasure series. As the book description explains, Trevor and Cassie are starting their married lives: Trevor has planned a lovely seaside getaway for their honeymoon.

The connections between the two is strengthened and deepened, the true enjoyment of one another is readily apparent. Almeida and Aubrey have delivered on their promise to make these shorts character-driven pieces, and I am actually rather jealous of those of you who are just coming to the series - you can make your own combinations of read / listen to the series and it's Bytes in order, a real treat.

Skillfully narrated by Tim Gerard Reynolds, he has become one of my favorite listens. With a soft touch of Irish accent in his narration, more distinctly apparent for Trevor, and a softer tone, without great exaggeration in pitch to 'sound' overtly female for Cassie: the characters are easily distinguished; put forth with the proper inflection and emphasis that fully present the emotional subtext in the spoken dialogue.

It was okay but not the best one

While I usually love Delilah's books, this one was just so so for me. I was ticked off at Cutter for his attitude and being pissed off with his sister and her two husbands all the time and then I was ticked off because Katie cheated on Cutter on purpose because she wanted him to commit to her. Uh, that's not the way is should work. Even though she knew afterwards she shouldn't have cheated, he still gave in and took her back. The story just did fit right with me but it won't stop me from reading her other books in this series!

Pleasant enough bed - time story

Why is it some men can be so very stubborn and thick headed? This guy sure was. I found it difficult to like Cutter at all. And for Katie to actually love him . . . Well I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

This is a pleasant enough bed - time story. The dreams may not be sweet, but probably hot.

Fun and quick

Decent characters and good story line connecting the first two stories. A good, quick read with strong alpha males. Devein doesn't disappoint.

If you could sum up Retreat Hell! She Just Got Here in three words, what would they be?

That's hard - all three were so likable. I really liked Jazz - she was one of the guys for so long as a Marine and wanted to explore being a woman so badly. Her transformation was very fun to listen to :-).

What about Christine Padovans performance did you like?

Her alto tones are so pleasant to listen to. I enjoy how she voices male characters and makes them so real.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I felt bad for Logan, thinking he may not be able to overcome his injuries to be with a woman. But definitely, I was grinning with the end results :-).

Love Ms. Long's ability to give her characters such depth in only a short story format!

Narrator deserves zero stars

I really want to read this story and in order to do so, I had to hear this narrator. I have heard many awful readers like Roy Wells--who is an old man reading young parts, Annie Chapman--who reads flatly when she does male voices, and others. I have NEVER had the DISpleasure of listening to a book where I can't hear the story because the narration is so bad. Christine Padovan stops in odd places, lilts in the wrong areas and fails as a good male narrator. It is so bad that I could not UNDERSTAND the story because the narrator was so awful. I only got 15 minutes into the story before I had to stop. I always finish a book--it's sacrilege not to in my family. Yet, here I am not able to fast forward or listen. DO NOT GET THIS BOOK! Buy the print version like I will.

Good Premise-Bad Execution

Narrator ruins it. The story was a good idea, had a good premise. But the narrator sings her words, so that she draws them out unnecessarily, which detracts from any degree of sexiness. And sexiness is important for erotica to be considered good. Plus I wouldn't want to hear this narrator read anything.

Great Stories, Horrible Narrator

The stories by Suzanne Rock are steamy and incredibly sexy, but the narrator detracted from each of the stories. I struggled to continue this audiobook. Please find another narrator, but don't change the stories! Those are phenomenal!!!

better narration would have been a starter. I swear I kept hearing the reader swallow and her voice would break. Also sounded like a kid...kind of creepy when you're listening to a steamy romance.

The heart recognizes what the reason ignores

Passion and love undermine the best laid plans. Eliza Martin, a self-sufficient heiress, who is avoiding forfeiting her freedom and fortune to a husband, plans to retire to the country after her sixth London season is over. Suspicious incidents make Eliza wary of her suitors, thinking someone is trying to force her into a marriage for protection. She hires a runner (London pioneering police) who doesn't take her seriously, but recommends Jasper Bond's thief-taker associate, Thomas Lynd, who cannot stand Eliza, and ends up asking Jasper to look after her security and to continue with the investigation.

Pride and Pleasure is a satisfying listen, the characters are of the most sympathetic ones I'd ever encountered, and the love scenes are fervid. The first one between Jasper and Eliza is one of the most original and passionate, seducing the virgin scene, I'd ever read. The more they learn about one another, the more their mutual admiration and love spring up. The suspenseful sub-plot makes one distrusts nearly all the secondary characters until the discovery of the wrongdoer. The book is written in a prose that belongs to the period is set, and there are plenty of witty exchanges amongst the characters. That has always been my favourite part of historical, so I fully enjoyed the beautiful and diverse usage of the English language by the author for our reading pleasure.

Imogen Church was wonderful in the delivery of the story

Sylvia Day never disappoints

Another great book by Sylvia Day. Her stories tranport me completely to that time and place. A wonderful tale (it must have been so hard to be an intelligent, indepedant woman during that time). Rich characters, interesting story, and sizzling romance and lust combined with the most wonderful narrator...Imogen Church is so so clever.

Easy listening

This is easy listening, not a fantastic story but pleasant enough, however I much prefer to read my erotica than listening to it. Imogen Church was utterly brilliant love listening to her story telling.

Poorest narration and production ever

Although the stories were ok for a formulaic romance, the narration was atrocious. The narrator read with almost a monotone and minimal inflection that made the sex scenes especially sound totally boring.

There were also places in the production of the audio where total sentences were repeated, as if the reader had lost her place and restarted. If I were the company that had produced this junk, I'd be totally embarrassed. Don't they listen before offering something for sale?

I don't have the kindle books and won't be buying them, but I think the stories may be slightly better if you read them yourself and skip the audio version.

What a total waste of a credit.

Not so hot!

Book one is so boring that I just didn't feel like listening/reading the rest! There are 3 story in this and I can't even make it to the rest. Sad Sad!

The voice used for the main male romantic lead ruins the entire story. I was unable to find the character likable because the narrator made him sound lie a sleazy used car salesman.

The sexual charge many read between the lines in Charlotte Brontës Jane Eyre is has been made much more intimate, electrifying, satisfying, and oh, so, quite un-Victorian. There is more to the tale and couplings than the will-they-or-wont-they (they will!) of Jane and Mr. Rochester. Heather Wilds, veteran of the London stage, as well as television and film, ranges from innocence to cruelty from yearning to culmination as she performs this erotic mashup of a literary classic many have read and the story of sexual appetites fulfilled most of them imagined.

It Just Doesn't Work

Firstly, let's start with the positives. I thought this was a well-written novel. Karena Rose seamlessly melds together her writing with Charlotte Bronte's. That is certainly no small task. And to be fair, even embarking on this effort wherein she adds to and changes one of the most well-known and beloved novels of all time is quite brave. I also thought the narration was good, but only after you got used to the reader's voice and somewhat monotone method of reading the story.

That said, this book just doesn't work. This just isn't the right book to try to make into erotica. I don't think the problem is the time period the story took place in, but the fact that the original novel was almost overwrought with religious allegory. Additionally, love between Jane and Mr. Rochester seems to come out of nowhere. Writers of love stories do this often...trying to get the reader to confuse sex with love. But it is somehow more obvious in this adaptation.

As far as the erotica, I don't think there's any way Rose could have made sex jump off of every page. Some of Eyre's initial sexual interactions are in-depth, but actually quite repulsive. Then again, maybe that's the point. The sex scenes with Mr. Rochester are appealing and well-written, but again they really don't seem to work for this story.

All in all, I would say there's nothing wrong with making this purchase. But I would definitely wait until it goes on sale. It wasn't worth a whole credit.
