    Publisher's Summary:
Yale professor Dr. Edward Kenders father is undergoing chemotherapy when the supply of a critical accompanying drug, Culovort, suddenly runs out. Unwilling to accept the drug manufacturers disingenuous excuse of production-line problems, Dr. Kender hires private investigator Erin Pulaski to prove that something more sinister is going on at Schiffer Hartwin.
Meanwhile, in Maryland, married FBI agents Lacey Sherlock and Dillon Savich are investigating a rather unusual case: Senator David Hoffman is experiencing a ghostly apparition with possible malicious intent. The case is baffling, and Sherlock and Savich are not sure what to believe, even after witnessing the disturbing specter for themselves. Theyre no closer to cracking the case when a call comes in from Connecticut: A top foreign Schiffer Hartwin employee has been found murdered behind the drug companys U.S. headquarters.
Unbeknownst to the FBI, Erin Pulaski had uncovered a bombshell in her investigation: The Culovort shortage is set to bring in a windfall profit in excess of two billion dollars. Upon learning of the murder, Erin is certain it has something to do with her findings, but she risks exposing herself by coming forward. As the feds move in, the case becomes even more complicated for Erin, since the murder of a foreign national on federal land can mean only that the pharmaceutical house has a secret of epic proportions one it would do anything to keep hidden.

Not the best - Terrible narration!
The story line of this book was not very compelling. The previous books seemed to have a lot more tension and crime solving. So as a book it wasn't that great, but as an audio listen it was horrible.
The male narrator was just terrible. It sounded as though he were reading the book for the first time. He put the emphasis on the wrong words and he enunciated each and every word - almost like listening to a group of first graders sitting around a circle learning to read. It - was - a - nice - warm - day - out - side - and me - and - my - friends - were - playing. Nothing flowed, it was just a bunch of disjointed words.
The narration was so bad that it completely took me out of the story on numerous occasions, so I'm not sure if the book was really that bad or just the reading.
Like an earlier reviewer said - it might be better to read this one rather than listen.
    Horrible Narration
Ok I couldn't listen more than about 15 minutes. It was the worst I have ever heard! Its read like by different people for different characters. It was just flat out awful I will order it on my kindle and read it. Sad Because I truly love Catherine Coulter and have read EVERYONE of her books. But this was so a waste of money!
    Not enough crime solving
I enjoy Catherine Coulter's character development, but I didn't like the way this book resolved. There was too much about the characters and what they eat and not enough details about how the crime was solved.
    Enjoyable, but not blown away
I love this series, I consider it one of my absolute favorites. I enjoyed this book, but wasn't as enthralled with it as I usually am. As a story, I could take it or leave it. I kind of wished I hadn't spent the money on this one, and waited until it came out in paperback.
Quit, couldn't stand it any more
I never write reviews but I want to save others from the pain of listening to this book.

    Retitle to Tedium
Listening to this story, I couldn't help but think that perhaps the author was paid by the word. The plot plods along with occasional bursts of excitement and activity that were much too far apart to keep my interest. By the end of the first part, I had lost interest in the characters and what happens to them.
Good Story, Great Voices, Really Annoying Effects
I liked the story and the cast. The characters were interesting and the plot moved well. I only give it 3 stars because the audiobook's sound effects and music almost stopped me from listening to it. The sound effects (police sirens, punches landing, bullets flying, phones ringing,...) were a distraction from the story and somewhat dangerous if you are listening while driving. (Perhaps I am just jumpy?) I think that the music was supposed to enhance the mood but I found the interludes too long and sometimes heavy handed. It felt like they were padding out the audiobook. If I would have realized just how much of the book was effects, I wouldn't have bought it.
    KILL BILL...
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK. I WAS HOOKED BY THE SAMPLE AND BOUGHT THE BOOK WITH THE HOPE THAT I WOULDN'T BE DISAPPOINTED, AND I WASN'T. WHILE NORMALLY I DON'T LIKE BOOKS WITH SOUND EFFECTS OR MUSIC, IN THIS CASE THEY ONLY ADDED TO THE ENJOYMENT OF THE EXPERIENCE. THE MUSIC HEARD IN THE SAMPLE REMINDED ME OF THE MUSIC FROM THE MOVIE "KILL BILL". YOU'RE GOING TO LOVE THE RIDE.
    Unbelievable but Fun
The two super heros were made sort of believable by their circumstances. But it was so pleasurable when the bad guys got their just rewards that I wanted to believe in them. It was an entertaining story.
    good book
I bought this book on a whim and am so glad I did! it is different and worth a credit

    Mystery solving couple
This book really showed what Abby could do as a psychic I think. Haunted house and the subsequent mystery solving were very interesting and fun. It was also the first time that Dutch and Abby finally started to work together as a romantic couple as well as a mystery solving couple.
I would be reading more from this series in the future.
Oh and the reader is very good too!
    Great Series
I am really enjoying this series. The psychic aspect is believable and makes for a new and different mystery. the characters are fun and the narration is good. Plan to work my way through the series.
Cozy mystery that you can easily solve
This narrator speak so slowly that I listen at 1.25 speed to avoid getting annoyed at the long pauses. half way through the story they start playing really awful music at the beginning of the chapters too. There are better storylines in psychic eye series. Good for a distraction.
    Just okay for me
    Any additional comments?
I really like this series, but not crazy about the voice of Elizabeth Michaels. I would have given the story more stars if I hadn't been able to figure out the plot so soon in the book. (Generally my benchmark for movies, too.) IMO, it wouldn't take a seasoned psychic so long to figure things out, since I did so quickly. Still, it had some good writing and a historical connection that I liked so it's a keeper. Also, I liked the link-up with M.J. from the Ghost Hunters series.
    Fun story line
    Any additional comments?
I really enjoy this series of books and love the outlook on life and daily interactions. Some books have too many details and tend to lose you in the story, but V. Laurie provides just enough detail for you to picture the scene in your mind yet not lose you in all the details. Can't wait to read/listen to more.

    Remember When - WARNING
I am bitterly disappointed with this book. It was written in 2003, not 2010, and is simply the second half of the book "Remember When" which isn't available on Audible, but would be Book 17.5 in the publisher's weird numbering scheme.
If I had used a book credit for this I would have demanded a refund. So far this novel has cost me $24.99 for the "Remember When" WMA version from Clear Audio Books, and now $7.34 from Audible.
Publishers who mislead their customers in this way are going to regret it in the long run. They are just being greedy.
For Dallas fans, half a book is better than all
I like the In Death books, but I'm not particularly fond of the Roberts genre. So I wasn't looking forward to the first half of Remember When, in which the first half called Hot Rocks is a current day story setting up the back story to Dallas' adventures. I was pleased to find Big Jack available separately.
The book stands on its own, and has plenty of narrative to catch the reader up on events of Hot Rocks. It also contains some great In Death moments, including Peabody's attempts to adapt to plain clothes in her new role as detective.
    Duped into buying this one
It's my own fault. I did not read the reviews of this book. I was curious that a J.D. Robb book about Eve Dallas was given a title without "in death" in it and I was looking for something to listen to until my credits were available so it is my own fault that I spent money on a book I've already read and I wish I had my $10 back. It's not about the story which was worthy as always, Audible should have made it clear that this book was sold as part of another book ( Remember When) in their description of this book.
Big Jack the Conclusion to "Hot Rocks"
I actually "read" the book "Hot Rocks" and so I was pleased to see that it actually led into an Eve Dallas book conclusion. "Hot Rocks" was originally published as "Remember When" so I already knew that, since it said so in the front pages of the book. I was able to then listen to it through my Library-2-Go downloadable loan books. I jumped at the chance to get "Big Jack," as I am an Eve Dallas fan.
"Big Jack" is a satisfying conclusion to the mystery.
    Big Jack
Another winner from J.D. Robb. This is very interesting and I always enjoy the wonderful characters in her books. It's a great story.

    Loved this. Need book 2!!!
This book reminded me of something Karen Rose would write.
The story line is an almost even split between romance and tension and on the other side murder and mayhem.
I loved it. The characters are well formed and grow well throughout the story. The mystery and mayhem keeps you glued to the book and the result is nice and tidy.
I loved the setting and the author did an amazing job with world building.
I will definitely read the next book in this series and I suspect that this author now has a new fan.
    WaAr
Another really good read from H. Graham
What made the experience of listening to Deadly Night the most enjoyable?
As always Heather Graham writes about interesting places and people. This was a good mystery and had all the usual suspects including the ghost running for cover. Hot lead too. you will not want to miss the Flynn brothers.
    love the characters!!!
Would you consider the audio edition of Deadly Night to be better than the print version?
Yes only because of its convenience
Who was your favorite character and why?
Aidan because of his determination to do whats right regardless of his peers.
What does Phil Gigante bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
he brings the characters to life
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    yes!
    Will read series
This is my first Heather Graham download and I have to say, I really enjoyed this audio book. It has mystery, romance, *ghosts*, interesting characters and some twists and turns. The sexy, cranky Aidan Flynn and his two brothers Jeffrey and Zach inherit a plantation in New Orleans from an aunt they never met. In fact they never knew she even existed until they learn of their inheritance. Kendall Montgomery was the caregiver and companion in the last months of Aidan's aunt's life. Kendall stays in the house even after the aunt's death. She and Aidan at first do not like each other. They don't trust each other. Aiden thinks she has ulterior motives and Kendall does not understand how Aiden never knew he had this wonderful aunt that left him her plantation. After they get over each other, they are all over each other, sparks fly and they start a romantic relationship and begin solving a serial murder mystery together. This is a super enjoyable listen. I love mysteries, especially that take place in the south. I will be downloading book 2.
    Cute
I loved the story very cute and a good chilling mystery. Didn't like the performer paused too much made me think it paused or stopped working.

    Publisher's Summary:
Jacobia Tiptree saved her sanity - and her son, Sam - the day she abandoned Wall Street for the seacoast village of Eastport, Maine. In her new home, a charmingly dilapidated fixer-upper, she looks forward to repairing old radiators and restoring antique shutters for years to come. But Jake's hopes of serenity are dashed when tiny Eastport erupts in a crime wave.
Hometown bad boy Kenny Mumford - old flame of Jake's best friend and fellow sleuth, Ellie White - is the first victim. When his corpse washes up on the beach at Prince's Cove, all evidence points to a drowning...except the bullet hole in his forehead. When bodies begin littering the Maine scenery, Jake and Ellie learn that the ante on Kenny's small-town antics has been upped.
Add a pair of unwelcome arrivals - Jake's ex-husband, and an unscrupulous New York ex-money mogul - and you've got a blueprint for more deadly danger than one old house can hold.

Second in the series and looking forward more
Would you listen to Triple Witch again? Why?
Yes, great book, a lot of detail
    Any additional comments?
I like this kind of book, not too heavy, good humour, enough of a mystery to keep you going.
    Loved it!
Don't miss this second in the series. Sarah Graves dances a fine line in this genre. She keeps it light...but the story still touches on serious topics and there is character development. Not many in this genre manage the finesse Ms. Graves does.
    Good Continuing Series
If you could sum up Triple Witch in three words, what would they be?
Good second book to the series. Person narrating does well also, plan to listen to all the books in the series.
    Entertaining
I have read the first and second book of this series and will probably read the third. If I have nothing else to read. While it is entertaining, there are things about the book that is annoying. While Jake and her family are well developed characters, many of the other characters seem to fall into stereotypes. I know that small towns are prone to gossip, but I wonder if people in Maine all have guns and tend to be closed mouth about their feelings and family. It sounded like Graves was talking about a small town in the Appalachians. I guess that is a stereotype that I have about that region. Also, the tie with New York should be cut. Is this the only town in Maine that people from New York want to? And does Jacobia have to know them? I thought New York was a big city. Anyway, it was a good story. I like the developments with Jacobia's family. Like I said I will read another book in this series.
    okay
This is the 2nd book in the series. I wish audible would get the complete series instead of bits and pieces. I still looking for crawlspace. It's the type of audio book for a "COLD WINTER" night! And the narrated Lindsay Ellison has an excellent voice for the series.

    Opiniones de los miembros:
    No pude disfrutar el libro
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Who was your favorite character and why?
La historia es buena solo que la traduccion es muy mala.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Gustavo Rex?
Alguin que pueda leer el libro como corresponde. Gustavo Rex puede que hable español como segunda lengua pero no lo hace lo suficientemente bien como para tener la fluidez y el ritmo que el libro se merece.
Was El símbolo perdido [The Lost Symbol] worth the listening time?
No, preferiria haberlo escuchado en Ingles.
    Any additional comments?
Hagan las producciones con actores que hablen español en el futuro.
    Choose better spanish readers
Listen to the reader with an pocho american accent is like the american listen the book with a mexican accent. There is a lot of good spanish readers for spanish listeners
    Traduccion y Narracion HORRIBLE!
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Parece que Langdon, en lugar de cada vez mostrarse mas abierto y mas inteligente gracias a su experiencia de las novelas pasadas. No, cada vez es mas idiota y testarudo.

As matters become more complicated, Spenser's longtime love, Susan, begins offering some input by analyzing Eisenhower's behavior patterns in hopes of opening up a new avenue of investigation. It seems that not all of Gary's women are rich. So if he's not using them for blackmail, then what is his purpose? Spenser switches tactics to focus on the husbands, only to find that innocence and guilt may be two sides of the same coin.

    Another wonderful Spencer book
As with an earlier reviewer I, too, have been reading the Spencer books for a very long time. I have either read or listened to them all from the first book and have always enjoyed them for what they are - light reading with an interesting story to tell, but with no serious moral issues at stake.
I would not normally have reviewed this book since I have not reviewed any of the previous Audible Spencer books I have listened to, but was convinced to do so by some of the negative reviews I saw. Robert B Parker was a master of the short sentence and short chapter. His books are full of "He said" and "She said", but they are at the core of his writing style and, over time, I have become so wrapped up in the story and the characters that I no longer even notice. Rather it is the regular characters in the book, their relationships with each other and the underlying humor that have made these books so enjoyable, at least for me. Add to that an interesting story, the process of unraveling what actually happened and who did it and the masterful reading of Joe Mantegna and you have a pleasant couple of days of listening.
I enjoy these books so much that I often listen to them again when I want to spend a couple of days just relaxing. For me, the pleasure is in the listening and light humor more than in the "who-dun-it". If you are looking for the Maltese Falcon, you are not going to find it here. I, for one, am truly going to miss seeing more of these books since Mr. Parker recently died and I assume there is no one to continue the series.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who just wants a pleasant relaxed read, but I would also recommend that they start with some of the earlier books since much of the pleasure from the book involves the relations between the characters and that is something that you need some history to understand.
    Some positive feedback
I respectfully disagree with the first two reviews posted on Audible that expressed significant disappointment with this book. Perhaps if this was the first Spenser book I ever read (or listened to) I would have been disappointed. Having not missed a single one since the very beginning more than 20 years ago, this book was exactly along the lines of what I would have expected from Robert Parker. Spenser played his role as he always does, Susan and Hawk added some interesting perspectives, and many of Spenser's old friends played their reliable parts. The story wasn't the best one Mr. Parker ever wrote but it entertained me and I listened my way through it in less than two days and I was satisfied when it ended.

...of all mystery writers, bruen is the best...writer, that is...the story is just along for the ride... a unique knack for dialogue, an unrivaled knowledge of music and literature... an ability to find a poignant phrase that speaks to the deepest parts of each of us...never a word in excess... orwell would be proud! the reader, gerry o'brien, a perfect complement to bruen's prose.
    Almost flawless
Bruen captures the pathos and humour of a drunken Irish dick. Self destructive and so human, it is hard not to identify with the lead (I can't call him hero) of this book. Beckett meets Chandler and a stone bottle of cheap gin.
Offered wine after a dinner of a six pack of beer, Jack says, "Ah fuckit man," then confides that that is the abridged version of the Serenity Prayer.
    You get the picture.
    Great book for alcoholics
ThIs is basically about drinking. The author is pretty funny, and the main character is likable. But something was missing.
    Ireland's answer to Harry Hole
I really love Taylor's flawed character. The dialogue held the classic sort of Irish humor I'd hoped for. My only complaint is that I wished it had gone on longer.

    Publisher's Summary:
Here Gretchen is still on the loose and Archie is still hospitalized after his ploy to catch her went spectacularly wrong. They've entered a detente of sorts: Archie agrees not to kill himself if she agrees not to kill anyone else. But suddenly there's something else to contend with that might be worse - a zealous fan of Gretchen's, paying homage to the Beauty Killer by luring Archie and reporter Susan Ward to the scene of a grisly murder. At least they hope it's the work of someone new, for the prospect of Gretchen breaking her promise is more than Archie can bear.
    Critic Reviews:
"With her preternatural grasp of pacing and ability to create vivid characters with astonishing economy, Cain expertly drives her narrative." (
Los Angeles Times)"We've been down Hannibal Lecter Avenue many times, and these two books shouldn't work . . . but they do. Chalk it up to excellent writing and Cain's ferocious sense of humor. The Portland [Oregon] setting is refreshing too." (Stephen King)

Average novel with irritating music thru-out
Evil at Heart follows the story arc of Gretchen and Archie-serial killer vs. typical broken down cop who isn't a drunk, but is a junkie on vicodin. This third novel in the series is yet another average rendition of a frequently written story arc. It's not bad but it's not really good either.
I purchased all 3 books when there was a sale at audible (buy 2 get 3) looking for a new author and charmed by the idea that the scene is set in Portland, OR----my hometown.
The plot isn't a bad one and the writing has some good points but I guess my hope the Cain's writing might improve as the novels progressed hasn't come to fruition, in my opinion. All 3 novels have come strongly in the average department...not bad, not good-just average. Each with the mandatory kinky sex scene, which is well written, and the increasing deterioration of Archie's mind as Gretchen gains more and more control over him.
I've noticed lately that more audio books have begun inserting musical interludes between chapters. For some reason the producers find this attractive, but as a reader/listener I find it irritating. All 3 of Cain's books had this aggravating addition to the novel as well as the addition of weird piano and string interludes during the reading of an exciting portion of the plot.
It sounds just like 1940 radio shows I used to listen to as a kid-or like the Twilight Zone on early TV to bring the analogy closer to modern day. One chapter, 42 I think, where there was supposed to be a suspenseful part in the story arc, the music played all thru the chapter....and it overwhelmed the reading at times-the music didn't add anything and really took away from the performance. And it drove me a bit batty with the irritating increase in volume.
Carolyn McCormick is a good narrator and I'd happily listen to her read other books.
    Another good listen!
This series just keeps getting better and continues to be interesting and maintain in depth character development. Narrator is good.
    OMG!
If you liked Heart Sick and Sweat Heart...You will be blown away with Evil at Heart. This was creeper than both the first 2 put together. I'm glad I don't live alone.
    Creepy!
This was full of plot twists and though grisly, has some unexpected humor.
