Enjoyable Tolkien short stories

This was just an enjoyable series of shorts well performed and written in Tolkien's simple, well-written, inimitable English storytelling style. Like Winnie the Pooh and so many English stories, this collection is just nice, good fiction with kind Christian morals deeply hidden in a satisfying story. If you like Tolkien, Narnia, Milne, and the gentler English fiction well worth the credit.

Hmm

I'm not really sure what I think of this odd collection of stories. Tolkien's imagination is clear but I found some of them quite unfathomable. I'm not sure how many children would enjoy them. Brilliantly read.

I am amazed that this series has not had more acclaim. it is one of the best gritty fantasy books I have read. Plus it is absolutely hilarious, I'm a very dark way. I f you like Joe Abercrombie you will LOVE this series

I love the way the author mixes the legends of gods and goddesses into real life.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Amy, is so smart and funny. It is hard not to love her!

Romance blossoms

Not as much sadness in this book as others in the series. A well written story that has clear descriptions of many new creatures discovered in another universe. Amy and Bodie's relationship develops, although it goes quiet at the end. I hope it reunited in the next book

Very grim, but satisfying.

No rosy finale here, sprinkled with peanut butter and hugs. Here there is moral horror, visceral savagery, and a glimpse into the darkness of human nature. When when one finds that even one's heroes have blackness in their hearts, and the crushing, eternal debt from the woe of innocents, well...enjoy, if you don't feel like a Disney ending. I know that I did.

The quality of story and performance continues in this penultimate part - keen to hear the final book but sorry it has to end!

Another great reading of a wonderful story

I am completely caught up in this world now!

The story is epic, many-layered, full of great characters.

The performance is truly excellent, I don't know how Andrew Wincott manages to make each person, mortal or Sidhe sound so different.

Classic fantasy, you can't beat it!

Still Too Breathy

The story is still compelling, the plot is slowing down slightly but am excited to see where Tad goes with it. Andy needs to have a serious word with himself about his female/mystical voices though, far too Breathy and sharp (can be uncomfortable to listen for the longer stretches of dialogue) and all the same which breaks emersion.

A lost masterpiece

This 'trilogy in four parts' is superb, well written, gripping - and completely ripped-off by. George R R Martin. It preceded 'Game of Thrones' by four-five years, and GRRM has acknowledged he had read it. Just a couple of examples:? 1. Throne - only of dragon bones. 2. Mysterious evil undead creatures invading from the frozen north. 3. Dysfunctional royal family, etc etc. However, the women are strong feminist characters, not merely there to be stripped and raped, and although there's plenty of horror and nastiness there's also humour and beauty. The mystery to me is why it's out of print and - shame on you Audible!- volume 4 has still not been recorded and isn't due until May 2016!

Entrancing

A fine conclusion to the series. Wonders and loss, joy and sadness: victory comes with heavy cost. This is the finest, most engaging fantasy I've read in many years. The audio version is beautifully read. Highest recommendation.

Amazing ending, masterful narration

This sequel closes the story beautifully. I was worried how the concurrent timeline with the Flesh and Spirit/Breath and Bone duo, but it worked brilliantly. And I love this narrator. Perfect combo.

Amazing Aventure with heart and smarts

oh my, read these two books! I could not stop listening. The concept is well made and convincing. The magic makes sense and the characters are lushly drawn. You care about them.

The narrator is talented, versatile and entertaining.

Eros

I loved this book. It has a great plot with several twits I didn't see coming and was rapped up nicely at the as to not leave a cliff hanger.

I couldn't stop lessioning to this book and found myself up late into the night even as I had to get up early the next day. In my opinion this book was better than the first and was definitely worth the listen.

I am sorely dissappointed

I had eagerly awaited this sequel in the Sanctuary series. I truly enjoyed the first book. Unfortunately, the pacing in this book is so slow and the story so not engaging that I found myself only wishing it would end. I felt the book dragged out interminably. I could never raise any empathy for the characters, particularly the main protagonist. In short, the book is monumentally boring.

Lacked that spark!

I can't put my finger on it but something was missing here. The story wasn't boring but it wasn't exciting either. I just wanted to finish this so I could move on to another book not because I was drawn in. I didn't quiet like the narration either. The narrator seemed bored herself. Maybe someday I'll be able to bring myself to finish the series, but for now I not curious or invested enough to want to know how it ends.
