Beautiful Story

I really enjoyed this book, however, being a 3rd generation Alice Springs person, I found the pronunciation of many place names and aboriginal words cringe worthy. I had to refer to the text to see what the actual reference was. Araluen Arts Centre is prounounced A-RA-LOOO-EN

Also, they should have recorded it again when the reader stumbled a few times.

BUT the book is amazing. I loved hearing about the gorgeous Pam Lofts, about the history of Balgo arts and their adventures in the desert.

Smart, Strong

Brave, Smart, Strong, Funny, Sad, Truthful, Inspiring... A real portrayal of Deprression and Anxiety, but in a very smart, deep and entertaining way. Melissa Broder is an intellectual, but also a real woman with whom you can relate to. She describes with precision her problems, and you feel like her problems are yours (in a good way). She is not afraid of being vulnerable, and that is why her voice is so strong... Very recommendable.

A very emotional read

Deeply personal, Ms Broder holds nothing back in this collection of personal essays. You feel like you have known her from the inside out after reading this. Depression, addiction, open marriage, sex, writing, her most vulnerable secrets and real thoughts... there are times when her destructive mentality and behaviors cause me anxiety, and reminds me of some painful and sad memories. A very emotional read.

big fan of the @sosadtoday twitter account, so when I found out about this book, I immediately pre ordered. I love this book so much!! this book is somewhat like a safe haven to me. this book feels like a lover to me. it made feel sad, happy, embarrassed, and safe all at the time. ive literally been telling everyone about this book and telling them to to read it bc I feel like everyone can relate to this book in some way. 10/10 would recommend Melissa broder REALLY does get it

Darkly funny and relatable

After reading this, I feel like Melissa Broder and I both understand each other, even though we've never met. If you deal with anxiety or panic disorder, I think you will love this book. Broder is so talented at putting complex, elusive emotions into words. She makes dealing with mental illness entertaining and funny in a dark way.

Melissa Broder's book of personal essays is a deeply thought provoking read. "So Sad Today" is for curious readers with a capacity for self examination, an appreciation for existential absurdity, willingness to experience things from a deeply personal perspective other than their own and any reader who loves poetic prose and good writing. I am reminded of how everyone we meet is fighting their own personal battles, inner demons and hidden insecurities, no matter how much it appears they may have their act together. Disappointing

A disappointing oversimplification of a fascinating subject. Inaccurate and poorly crafted and performed. I wish the author have done a bit more homework and the reader had looked up the correct pronunciations for some of the important facts and names.

Concise but a but lacking

I was hoping for a bit more than an expanded encyclopedic article, but it was fine for my research. I would not reccommend for entertainment, but it's not boring. That would make Mr Wilde turn over in his grave.

This is an overview of the actual book âDisrupted.â Kind of like an abbreviated Cliff's Notes for the full book. It provides a potential reader enough information regarding this bookâs content to determine if we want to invest the extra money and time to actually buy and read the entire book. The author was a 'journalist' for a leading magazine prior to being"let-go-of" by his employer at age 51. The narrative involves his experiences in finding a 'new job' and changing careers as a 'middle-ager.' At .99 cents this summary is a good value, which is one of the reasons I have personally found âInstareadâ to be a useful service.

History would be so much more engaging if presented like this...

Carolina Israelite is brilliant and has enlightened my views on many things surrounding Civil Rights. Through the unbiased scope of Kimberly Hartnett, we see Harry Golden painted in a kind, humorous and brutally honest picture. The writing keeps me engaged from start to finish which is refreshing. Usually I find biographies are not my cup of tea. It is no fault of the writer or the topic, I just don't find it interesting. This book is that exception that I am happy to have. I'll admit, the title caught my eye, and with a little further investigation, my curiosity forced me to add this book to my cart. I don't always like to admit when my curiosity was right, but in the case of this book, it absolutely was.

The only thing I can criticize, except it isnât really criticism, is that I bet there were many, many other stories that didnât quite make the cut for the book. Kimberlyâs writing of Harry Golden makes me want to hunt down every morsel of his life.

I'm not usually a review-writer and it certainly is not a profession of mine. However, if a person finds their curiosity piqued by this book, you won't regret the reading of it. While I am recommending, I also recommend setting up a comfortable lawn chair outside in the sun (or in the shade if you prefer), having a tall glass of sun tea, and reading this book. It would be hard to find a better day!

An excellent read!!

So hard to believe it's a first effort in terms of a book publication. An ambiguous and complex character described in clear and often humorous language, recounted in the context and political/social geography of his time. Beautifully done and creatively portrayed, although I swear sometimes it raised more questions in my mind than answers.
