Weekly Wednesday Weigh-In #69. Bill Barnes and I have a spirited debate on the vaccine policies across the United States. Bill is tired of being held captive by the unvaccinated while I believe it is the government who is holding us all back. Sometimes good friends disagree and this is one of those days. We start off a new week of shows with a pair of guests. Both Sam Heersema and Todd Carson zoom in for separate segments. Sam and I discuss his popular podcast episode from last week, ungrateful people in America, and possibly his recurring appearance a few times a month. The connection with Todd was difficult at times but we chat about his good friend Dave Joe being on the show recently as well as Todd and I getting together to watch some USA Baseball at 3:00am next week. Some other topics on the show today include LA County masks, the division of America, and a rant at the end regarding breakfast hours.

John Heid recently retired from the Defense Logistics Agency after working for 37 years as a Fuel Specialist. His career has taken him to over 50 countries and he shares some memories from his travels. John grew up in Ohio and now resides in North Carolina, but he was a proud member of the Foothill Citrus Football Officials Association while he lived in California. He discusses the details of his career, what made football officiating so much fun, the importance of fossil fuels, working with the military, the many places he has lived, Ohio sports, and a few of his favorite beverages. To quote John: "Someone is looking after all of us if we just paid attention."

Weekly Wednesday Weigh-In #68. Bill Barnes and I are grateful today for our new West Point t-shirts courtesy of Captain Mainor Bojorquez from the United States Army. We love the gear that fans continue to send us! Bill and I are also happy to endorse a new candidate to be the next Governor of California. Some topics today include the common thread of messy cities, the protests in Cuba, door-to-door vaccinations, selective outrage from the Left, and our apathy for the MLB All Star Game. As a friendly reminder, Bill Barnes has a birthday in two weeks on July 27th!

My brother Sam Heersema makes a return appearance to the podcast after a long layoff. We react to the wild results from UFC 264 on Saturday night and list random things people do that make them untrustworthy. Sam also talks about his favorite whiskeys and a few podcasts that he is a big fan of. Additionally, we argue about soccer as we watch the Euro Cup Final while recording. I want to try to get Uncle Sam back on the Get Home Safe podcast on a monthly basis in going forward, but we definitely made up for lost time with this latest edition.

Dave Joe is a successful Chief Financial Officer in the dental industry. He is also a very proud Rio Hondo Prep alumnus from the incredible class of 1991. Dave reflects on his multi-sport memories at RHP and the many friendships he made along the way. He also shares stories of how his experiences at RHP led to early success in his professional career. Dave loves golf and continues to be a big supporter of his alma mater.

Weekly Wednesday Weigh-In #67. Bill Barnes and I discuss a wide range of topics that include drug testing in the Olympics, the Trevor Bauer fiasco, and why some people hate America while others wave the flag proudly. Bill will also tell us about his 4th of July weekend and why he will no longer use Uber. We reveal some new merchandise from one of our biggest fans, Marji, and talk about some of the people who we recently found out are loyal listeners as well. Happy 4th of July! Today we reflect on the birth of the United States of America. I go over the Declaration of Independence, The Shot Heard Round the World, and 11 ordinary people who aided the American Revolution. I also talk about the inspiration of the Star Spangled Banner and the similarities between our flag today with the one that waved at Fort McHenry. The founding fathers were imperfect men, but many of them suffered greatly after signing their names to declare an independent nation. Today, we remember many patriots from our founding and reflect on the brave sacrifices from those who started the greatest country in the history of the world. Cheers!

Weekly Wednesday Weigh-In #66. Bill Barnes and I react to the NCAA's decision to eliminate NC State at the College World Series. Bill is fed up with the inconsistency of policy and the instant replay process. We also discuss how long current and future protocols will continue in the world of sports. Since Bill has been right on a few recent predictions, he has a very bold prediction regarding the Los Angeles Dodgers. Additionally, Bill fills us in on seeing a celebrity while on vacation and offers up a tasty new drink he came across.
