Great Book for kids
I recommend this book for parents who want to teach their kids about developmental disabilities. Marianne does a great job describing to kids that you don't need to be afraid. I especially like the follow up learning activity at the end of the book.
Five Stars
Charming and heart warming!
Perfect book to explain similarities of individuals with special needs, to children who are curious.
Fabulous, easy to read, with great children participation exercises. This book shows the life and emotions of Joey. It points out how he is human and loves, laughs and hurts just like anyone else. Great training tool for young children. Can't wait to read the rest of the volumes. Sidenote: I took it to work with me and my co-worker confiscated it to bring to her daughter's school. They are learning about people with special needs and how to interact with them. She thought this would be a great tool to show them. Hope I get it back. Thanks Marianne and Joey. You are both such inspirations to us all!
Will You Be My Friend provides an honest and refreshing look into the life of people with disabilities
Written succinctly, while connecting with the readers, this book gives an inside glimpse at the humorous, light-filled, and compassionate life possible for someone with Downs Syndrome. Marianne Marts' dedication to her brother and to informing and educating the public about the Syndrome is enlightening and connects with readers on an emotional level. This is a great educational resource for teachers and parents to demonstrate that those with disabilities are people, too, and to encourage positive engagement with those who have disabilities.
Great teaching tool for kids
Marianne Marts does a great job of putting a real face on what it's like to live with a family member with Down Syndrome, with all the challenges and joys that entails. "Will You Be My Friend" is a book for all ages, but is especially worthwhile for those wishing to teach their children or students the value of all people, especially those who may be a little different than we are. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the books in this series!
