My honest opinion

An amazing book on Russell Wilson, I have never known so much about him till I have read this book. I remember when I used to love Russell Wilson as a kid and he inspired me to play football. And I will continue to work hard because he has inspired me to try my best, Show my Faith, and never give up and show leadership.

This is a brilliantly written and researched book about a subject you never thought you would care about. But you will. It is about good people, courageous. people, not quite perfect people, but the kind of people you wish you knew more of.

The four idealistic young men you will encounter here entered the first winter Olympic games in 1932 held at Lake Placid and won the Gold Medal. Their victory was pure improvisation. But they did so much more. and at a time--between the two World Wars--when the world was changing perhaps more completely than at any time in western history. This is a period Americans know too little about. Billy Fiske, a wealthy young American and the leader of the team, parted from his stunningly beautiful wife to join the RAF to fight for Britain in 1939. He was commissioned in March of 1940. A month later he was killed.

Andy Bull has a great deal to say, but he does not waste your time. His voice will get under your skin. In many many ways, this is a most remarkable book.

Escapism entertainment but repetitive

An interesting listen for a Towie fan, with insight into how the show works behind the scenes from a cast member who is a bit more savvy than the average. Writing style can be a bit sycophantic and feels insincere when talking about others at times with a few digs here and there! And by the sounds of it Sam clearly doesn't lack in confidence! Denise van outen does a good job reading, just a bit annoying at times but very listen-able. Overall, enjoyed it.

Got bored of hearing about Joey Essex...

Chapter one was just Joey Joey Joey...I couldn't get past the first chapter...nothing we haven't seen on towie.

A bit vacuous!

What would have made Secrets and Lies better?

I could slate this book to be honest, it's a very one sided view from someone, that to be fair doesn't come across as that experienced in life. However, it is what it is.

Sam's writing reflects her young age and I felt embarrassed for her listening sometimes.

Yes

Did Denise Van Outen do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?

Denise's narration was below average in my opinion, but she didn't have a lot to work with to be fair.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Nothing really - it was just a young girl going on about what was important to her, from her perspective, advertising her favourite places and giving herself a pat on the back for being a role model! Honestly!!!!

Harmless enough, but take your brain out before you listen to or read it.

Okay.

Good to hear her side however not keen on the narrators voice slightly annoying and limited expression.

Captivating... True war stories are fascinating!

Being only a civilian and never having served in any form of military life, I thought that I would have a hard time relating to the lingo and such, but the author did a very good job explaining every acronym and other terminology as he went along. That was very helpful and allowed me to experience the events as they took place as if I was there. The narrator did a great job as well and was very pleasant to listen to.

This audio book was well worth my credit and I would recommend it to anyone - especially those who like nonfiction historical type books.

A series of stories within author's tour

I enjoyed the author's perspectives on many issues ranging from fungal infections to hot landing zones. The author starts the book sometime around his plane trips out of the States, and ends when he gets sent to the rear after being wounded.

The narrator was excellent at basic storytelling and creating suspense as well as indignation - great voice. What I didn't like about the narrator is that he apparently didn't use technology to reduce the audio screeches that occurred when he uses voices of men yelling in the field during combat. Also, the narrator mispronounced some key words repeatedly. I'd certainly give the narrator another try though as experience is the best teacher and he's got natural talent for certain.

The story has so many types of experiences - great range of situations and emotions. I was captivated. The author seems very credible to me.
