Best leadership book Ive read yet

Its a little hard to visualize the diagrams, charts, and other visual tools found in the hard copy, but still well worth the time to listen. A great book for any leader, new or old. The book covers the foundational items to be a great leader, as well as steps to achieve these skills. After listening to the audio, I definitely want the hard copy now!

Not a lot of new thought here, mostly repetition of previously published material by other authors, but from a team perspective.

Sorry, I was disappointed-

What disappointed you about Great Teams?

He is a good author and motivational team building coach, but in this book, it's filled with too many comparisons of Sports teams etc. It seems that he is trying to impress everyone of his knowledge of sports history instead of talking or instructing about how to build teams from the ground up and strengthening them. Just too many continuous references to sports for me.

Must have for Agile transition!

What made the experience of listening to Agile and Lean Program Management the most enjoyable?

In Johanna's book she is very clear in explaining what to expect and do in an agile world. I'm currently undergoing a transition from Waterfall to Agile and this book has been invaluable resource for me and our teams. One of our biggest challenges is related to managing up in the agile transformation and chapter 9 (estimating program schedule or cost) and section 10.12 (Principles) was a huge help in shaping how we message and report on progress from our transition from waterfall.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Agile and Lean Program Management?

Chapter 11 (Develop your servant leadership), this chapter really helped to open my eyes to servant leadership. It was something I've heard of, but didn't give much thought to until really understanding it from Johanna's book. This chapter was a great introduction into servant leadership and now I have added Servant Leadership to my backlog of reading/listening further into this topic.

What about Zoe Walronds performance did you like?

Zoe did a great job and it was very easy to listen to while driving.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I had many "Aha!" moments when listening to this book. Since we started our agile transition recently from waterfall this book really hit home.

The organization I work for is undergoing an agile transition and we've all found Rolling Rocks Downhill very helpful in understanding this transition. Johanna had written foreword of this book which lead me to find her book Agile and Lean Program Management. It's great to see these amazing agile experts & authors working together like this!

Boring and roundabout explanation

"The A team presents to the X team who present to the Y team. The C team should report back to the A team once [some process] is established."

If you work in a fast paced tech environment where the words "lean", "scrappy", or "innovative" are ever used this is NOT the book for you.

Good information but a little hard to follow

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Probably so. There were enough examples in the book to get a feel for how to implement the ideas. However, it was difficult to follow because the flow seemed choppy.

What aspect of Ash Mauryas performance would you have changed?

I really liked the flow of the example he gave about how he tested product market fit when considering writing his book. I would have liked to see 20 more examples like that for various types of businesses.

What did you take away from Scaling Lean that you can apply to your work?

Stop spending a lot of time developing a product before doing the market interviews. I have to start with learning what people consider a big problem and what solutions they value the most first. Shift from "inventor thinking" to "entrepreneurial thinking"

The most practical book on lean I have ever read

I almost did not buy it because of the title. i have read dozens of books on lean. I thought this one was about a ridged set of indicators and theory. i was wrong. Instead it was filled with practical information that I am applying in my daily work within a global enterprise. if you are trying to apply the lean startup method in the enterprise, this is the book for you. if you are already a lean practitioner and interested in lean startup, this book is for you.

Loved his voice

Not the typical audiobook reader for one.

His raw...hit you in the gut...and give it to you straight delivery is everything I needed. Can't wait to listen to it again.

Great story

This was a great book on Mr. Weiss. He gives a lot of great perspective and insight. He brags more about himself and his accomplishments than provide a blueprint to help people that aspire to be like him, but I guess you can do that when youre as accomplished as him.

Joels lessons are unbelievably valuable

Many years ago I had the chance to see Joel at work at Trammell Crow, and have not seen him since. Yet his lectures and discussions on line have had the most profound effect on my approach to businesses and lasting relationships of any other individual.

His approach to living an ethical and trustworthy life contained in both this excellent book and his podcasts you can find on the internet have guided me from absolute failure at Crow to developing strong lasting relationships leading to hundreds of millions of dollars of real estate.

Role model shares his immense wisdom

A truly wise, incredibly experienced and successful - yet humble - leader, seems to be a rare find. Joel is all these things and more. I saw him speak on this subject prior to the books release and he his presentation was outstanding we were all in awe. Because he lived, and lives still, precisely what he preaches as what works best when you want to go down deep to the core of the principles behind a thriving organization and its leadership.

I only wish you got to hear his voice on the audio version - finely narrated though it is. Enjoy!
