The Golden Age of Flying saucers
This a good compulation of historic UFO cases and a great little reference book. It's good for the amature investigator, the student, and as a quick-reference book when trying to recall specific events of famous sightings during various times.
It's easy reading and would be a good introduction to the history of ufos' for that younger mind in your family.
However, for a more indepth study and accumulation of historical UFO incidents, I would highly suggest "UFO's A Century of Sightings" by Michael David Hall.
My Son and I Both Loved This Book
My 11 year old son is something of a hesitant reader who especially resists cracking the covers of books assigned in class or those he has to write a report on for a grade. He reads at grade level (5th), but avoids reading when he can get away with it, claiming that most books "bore him to tears." Maybe the books they assign in public school are boring, I don't know... But I do know that when his teacher recently allowed the kids to pick their own books for review, my son took the initiative to surf over to Amazon and to find "The Golden Age of Flying Saucers" all on his own. He loves Star Trek, X-Files reruns and documentaries about UFOs and aliens on TV, and wanted to use the assigned book report as an opportunity to maybe get Dad to pony up for a book he actually WANTED to read, on a subject that really interested him.
Of course, I bought him the book, and when it arrived, he was thrilled.

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 1 hr and 46 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 07-29-16

    Genres: Nonfiction, Unexplained Phenomena
    Publisher's Summary:
Whether you believe in their reality or not, and regardless of what you think about them, there is one thing we can all agree upon: vampires in general elicit many comments, thoughts, passions, and varied thoughts. To the kids, he is the blood sucking mythical being every kid wants to be on Halloween - the one being that all other Halloween mythical beings and creatures are afraid of. To the erotic listeners, Dracula is the seductive hulking man who has the ability to cause out-of-this-world orgasm from a single bite. He is the Romeo in many romance and love stories and in novels that have had worldwide acclame. To some, he is even bigger. He is the reincarnation or embodiment of a truly fearful but beautiful and wonderful creature.
If you ask most people what they know about the mythical being we are talking about, many will have nothing much to say but will narrate the mythical stories passed down the generational tree. However, the truth is that, at one point in our lives, we will come across a piece of information about vampires or vampire-like behavior. This could happen in the form of a film, a play, a vampire symphony, or any other informational program that incites you to ask, "What is the real truth behind vampires? Are they real?" These questions we shall look to answer. How do we intend to do this? We will look at the mysteries surrounding vampires, their mystery and place in history as others have known it, as we know it, and as others after us will know it. This means that by looking at the various ways folktales and myths have shaped our opinions of the creature we know today as the vampire, we shall understand the nature of vampirism and answer this pressing question: "Fact or Fiction...are vampires real?"

much not based in anything but modern imagination
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
no , a large part of it is directly read from wikipedia, and a whole other chapter is word for word from a creative writing article on vampire history by some girl in 2010. Amusing.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
    dramatic performance and some interesting
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
I found much to be taken from current media or creative writing found on the internet, not based in "history" at all. In that way it was humorous.
Did Fact or Fiction? The History and Mystery of Vampires inspire you to do anything?
    nope
    Any additional comments?
taken with a huge grain of salt.

Title: Return of the Prophecies of Mothman

    Narrator: Nicholas Barker
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 6 hrs and 38 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 12-08-15
    Publisher: New Saucerian
Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 2 votes
    Genres: Nonfiction, Unexplained Phenomena
    Publisher's Summary:
Spurred by the realization that the 9/11 attacks were accurately predicted - in 1967 - by a childhood friend who was seeing Mothman, Seattle artist Andy Colvin began filming a reality series, The Mothman's Photographer, documenting his experiences growing up in Mound, West Virginia.
Return of the Prophecies of Mothman chronicles the thoughts and feelings of several Mothman experiencers and researchers, beginning almost a decade after the attacks (2010-2013). These revealing letters, penned during a wave of odd synchronicities, sightings, and encounters, indicate that Mothman may be a guardian angel of mind-bending proportions.
Interwoven with these personal diaries are replies and other posts from Colvin, which reach back into the mysterious history of the Ohio Valley, providing not only a fuller context for the phenomenon but also illustration of how the paranormal and the media work together to help form public opinion and belief.
In their thought-provoking attempts to figure out just what Mothman might be up to, Colvin and company look at every possible myth, legend, and conspiracy theory available, leading the listener on a wild, entertaining, and often poignant ride into high strangeness.

    Good grief, this is bad.
I love paranormal books, but I couldn't get past page 60. This book is a rambling hot mess. No evidence for anything at all was even mentioned in the first section. He expects you to take everything on his say-so without a scrap of backup.
At one point, the author says "...the walls were bending." Yes, honey. I bet they were. Next time, try investigating cold sober?

Title: They Knew Too Much About Flying Saucers
    Author: Gray Barker
    Narrator: Bruce T Harvey
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 6 hrs and 7 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 11-13-15
    Publisher: New Saucerian
    Genres: Nonfiction, Unexplained Phenomena
    Publisher's Summary:
In 1953, the headquarters of the International Flying Saucer Bureau, a highly successful UFO research organization, suddenly closed its doors and ceased operation. The founder declared that the UFO mystery had been solved!
Gray Barker, the organization's chief investigator, discovered that the closing had been preceded by a visit from three strange men - dressed entirely in black. What secret did this mysterious trio reveal, and why did they threaten those who knew it?
The events that led to the termination of the International Flying Saucer Bureau also gave rise to the legend of the Men in Black - strange beings who often appear on the scene after flying saucer sightings. Renowned author and paranormal researcher Gray Barker's insider account of the original Men in Black story will both fascinate and astonish you!
    Members Reviews:
    A UFO classic.
Like Barker's other work, this is a strange combination of fact and possible fiction that is a riveting look at the early days of UFO studies. This book is considered a classic and gives a great deal of information about some of the early researchers that I found to be fairly interesting. The one issue I have is that, unlike Gray's later work, the writing here is dry and lacks the enthusiasm that he later shows.
Still, it's a fun book and, yes, a must read for anyone interested in the study of UFO's and the people who seek them out.
And They Took It to Their Graves - 2 1/2 Stars
I'd like to be able to give half star ratings on some of this stuff. 2 1/2 for this one. The title and premise of this book is that the witness and insider accounts of the early days of the flying saucer phenomenon accounted for these fellows disappearing and/or going belly up. And I don't doubt that in some instances that might have been true. I found the book interesting enough to buy because it was such an early account of the phenomenon and as such important because the information was still fresh and strategies for disinformation were still evolving. However, if "they knew too much" then they took it to their graves, because the author is unable to relate anything here that would have gotten anyone killed - let alone pestered. Slightly interesting because of its vintage, but if you want to read about the early days then read Donald Keyhoe, Edward Ruppelt, J. Allen Hynek, etc.
    Fantastic book
One of the seminal books in UFO literature. Barker's work is always fascinating. Folklore in the making. A highly recommended book.
Campy & amusing, but outdated science
I saw an advertisement for this book in a local newspaper and decided to purchase it.
While the book initially grabs you and pulls you in, towards the end you have read some of the most outlandish theories, over-dramatic musings, simpleton ways of thinking about the whole 'saucer' phenomenon.
It is a relatively easy read both in length and style and I'll have to admit it did hook me. But did it hook me because of the mystery of UFO's or because some of the explanations about UFO's and their relationship with humans, the earth, our world governments, conspiracies, religion are so wacky it was enticing to read what the author would say next.
It did present one or two theories that I did find very interesting and even plausible, and it did lend much more mystery to the Men In Black.
