    Publisher's Summary:
"I lost a big battle this morning. The battle was whether to stay in bed and take it easy all day or tell you about Bill Klase and Jack Swift. About a wonderful moment we had together in the sun...and the worst beating I ever got in my life.
"I lost the struggle and got up and am now typing this.
"There is a memory in my mind I cherish and will cherish until they say, 'he's dead,' and pull the sheet over my head. It's not the beating. It's something that happened right before the beating.
"It is this: It is the Summer of 1972 and I am with two of the most wonderful guys I have ever met. It is Florida, St. Petersburg, a beautiful, sunny day. I am at Bill Klase's house and Jack Swift is there. We are standing next to Jack's shiny new sports car, and Bill is smiling, and I am smiling, and Jack Swift is smiling. All is well and wonderful in the world for that one moment...."

In Au Revoir she ran away. In Last Tango her world turned upside down. Now, her relationships are about to reach boiling point. In the European summer of 2003, a deadly heat wave strikes France. To Mary Moody, living in her rural village in the south-west of France, it seems that the weather is merely imitating the stifling heat of her marriage, which is on the verge of collapse following the events recounted in Last Tango in Toulouse. But despite relentlessly hot days and an uncertain future, Mary's new-found passion for life cannot be suppressed. It is not long before she is once again torn between her two desires: for the independence of her life in France; and for the love and continuity of her marriage and family life in Australia. While Mary immerses herself in the pleasures of her second home - the food and wine, the markets, her colourful circle of friends - a shattering turn of events comes when she least expects it.
Au Revoir and Last Tango in Toulouse have become national best sellers and made Mary Moody one of the best-loved and most successful non-fiction writers in Australia. With all the warmth and candour we've come to expect, The Long Hot Summer explores the minefield of relationships and changing desires, set against the beautiful backdrop of rural France.

    The journal and the journey
As I walked out of my front door last Monday morning, the mailman had already delivered a package and left it by the front door. Knowing what it was I picked it up, threw it in the passenger side seat of my truck, and headed to work. It would be lunch time before I had the chance to open and thumb through Leslie Browning's latest work.
"Where the journal meets the journey"
I had purchased Browning's contemplative poetry series a few months ago (Rumination at Twilight: poetry exploring the sacred; Oakwise: poetry exploring an ecological faith, and The Barren Plain: poetry exploring the reality of the modern wasteland) and enjoy the deep, personal style she brings to the surface with each deliberate word. She is not afraid to show you her journey of self-discovery. The only requirement is making sure that you are prepared for the journey. They are poetic tombs of a lost soul searching, finding, rejoicing, and discovering her truth in the world we live in. So with Fleeting Moments I had a good idea of Browning's heart, yet eager to dive into the unexpected.
"You do not need to go to the edges of the earth to learn who you are, only the edges of yourself"
Browning is quick to point out that she is not a worldly traveler and did not go to the ends of the earth to discover who she is and what she wants to tell you. Her travels consists of the New England region that she lives in and the world she response to. That being said, the idea of pulling inward, exploring the closeness becomes all the more important as you begin to read this latest work.
With the introduction, Browning is standing at the door of her home, the lobby of a bread and breakfast or a small hotel by the highway, or at any doorway that you would meet her as you prepare to go on this journey with her. She is not afraid to tell you what she has learned and why. Her words are honest, wonderfully written, and openly deliberate to the traveling reader. The prose and poetry glide beautifully with each step and at each place as you walk the miles with the poet and her journal. Every word, every creative stanza is a delight to the imagination. The creative process behind the pages of this book is impressive and inspiring to any student of poetry and writing.
Fleeting Moments of Fierce Clarity is a delightful gem to look upon, and a great feast for the mind to dig in to. This is one little book you may find yourself reading several times, or going back to from time to time, and always learning something new. And it is these times, as with many others, that you may discover your own moments of fierce clarity.
Enjoyed the book immensely. Bravo, Leslie M. Browning. Bravo.
The book is under $20 and is worth it! Definitely get this book. You will not regret it.

Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Personal Memoirs
    Publisher's Summary:
Life does not train you for this. Tragedies like this can easily separate you from your sanity. All the usual unanswerable questions begin to flood your mind. And so the blame game moves on. Maybe as parents we were at fault. On and on it goes. Almost from the beginning, however, the Lord would not permit me to go there. There seemed to be some God-ordained plan in motion that would turn this evil into something good. When Julie Zielinski s fun-loving, marine, sheriff deputy son commits suicide, her world comes crashing down. Questions flood her mind: How could she have stopped this? What next? And mostly, why? As Julie grieves her son in Matt's Last Call: Surviving Our Protectors, she reflects on the life he lived and the memories she will hold onto forever. For instance, the time his captain allowed him a leave from the marine corps in order to spend time with his ill grandfather in Hawaii. Or remembering what he looked like in his oversized baseball cap and uniform. Her energetic son turned into a man who loved nothing more than his family and country. With memories from Matt's father, friends, and family, this memoir will surely pull at heartstrings. As Julie reflects on the death of her firstborn son, she informs parents and children of the dangers of suicide, the difficulty of coping, the pain of everyday life, and lastly the days that happiness returns, even if just a little bit.

Length: 1 hr and 53 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-07-13
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Personal Memoirs
    Publisher's Summary:
In La Petite, the renowned French writer and film producer Michle Halberstadt vividly recounts the painful events that surrounded the death of her beloved grandfather, which led to a suicide attempt when she was 12 years old. Michles mother favored her older sister, her father was emotionally remote, her teachers dismissive, and her peers a foreign species. Her grandfather alone had given her an image of herself that she could embrace. After he died, there seemed to be nothing left for her. One day she decided that shed had enough of life. The pills in the bathroom were within reach and the temptation of falling asleep forever was irresistible.
La Petite is neither grim nor sentimental. Halberstadt, the recipient of both the Legion dHonneur and the Ordre du Mérite, Frances two most prestigious awards, has perfectly captured the emotions of the little girl she once was. Every woman will recognize something of herself in this moving story about adolescent grief, solitude, and awakening.

    Title: Mummydaddy
    Author: Jeremy Howe

Length: 6 hrs and 52 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-05-13
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 6 votes
Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Personal Memoirs
    Publisher's Summary:
In the summer of 1992, Jeremy Howe and his wife, Lizzie, were tending to last-minute holiday preparations. Lizzie was leaving to teach at a summer school before she could join Jeremy and their two daughters, Jessica, six and Lucy, four, at the seaside. That night, arriving at his mothers in Suffolk, Jeremy managed to get the excited girls to go to sleep, irritated that their mother hadn't called to say goodnight as she had promised. Just after midnight the household was woken by a policeman who had come to tell them that Lizzie was dead. She had been murdered. Twenty years after that terrible night, Jeremy and his girls are not the people they might have been had Lizzie not died. Theyre certainly different, but not damaged.
This is the candid, heartrending story of how they got there, of how, faced with the worst thing that could possibly happen, they put their lives back together, bit by bit and piece by piece. It's a story of how Daddy became Mummydaddy and of the pitfalls along the way, from how on earth you decide what to tell your children about their mother's violent death to the practicalities of knowing what they like in their packed lunch; from helping your children to grieve when your own grief is so sharp it threatens to overwhelm you to making sure that they brush their teeth and comb their hair. It's a story full of tears, but also of love and family and redemption.
    Critic Reviews:
This honest, beautifully expressed memoir relates Jeremy Howe's shock and grief, but beyond that it evokes fierce parental devotion, a remarkable understanding of small children and a grittiness that will chime with anybody who has experienced, or fears, such a calamity (Mail on Sunday)
    Members Reviews:
    Heart felt true story
I was engrossed in this book immediately. The tragic story of how a family survive after the murder of Jeremy's wife, how he survives the loss with a broken heart and to bring up his two young daughters. It is honest and you can feel the pain and the difficulties Jeremy faces from every aspect of their lives. How he has to survive bringing up a family, the problems faced with having to work, his financial struggles, his emotional struggles. It is not all tear jerking, there is much humour too, with the many people and situations Jeremy has to face. I highly recommend this audio book, also very pleasing to the ear by the narrator, whom I would imagine how Jeremy would sound. Excellent.

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 6 hrs and 54 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-28-13
    Publisher: Random House Audiobooks
Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Personal Memoirs
    Publisher's Summary:
On 11 September 2001, in a café in London, Ahmed Errachidi watched as the twin towers collapsed. He was appalled by the loss of innocent life. But he couldnt possibly have predicted how much of his own life he too would lose because of that day.
In a series of terrible events, Ahmed was sold by the Pakistanis to the Americans in the diplomatic lounge at Islamabad airport and spent five and a half years in Guantanamo. There, he was beaten, tortured, humiliated, very nearly destroyed.
But Ahmed did not give in. This very ordinary, Moroccan-born London chef became a leader of men. Known by the authorities as The General, he devised protests and resistance by any means possible. As a result, he spent most of his time in solitary confinement. But then, after all those years, Ahmed was freed, his innocence admitted.
This is Ahmeds story. It will make you rethink what it means to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. It will also make you look anew at courage, survival, justice and the War on Terror.

    Disturbing listening but couldn't stop!
I couldn't understand why soldiers would be scared of water but apart from that and a couple of other moments, this book is a harrowing read. Also don't do too well on religious books but that is central to the book and the book wouldn't be here if it wasn't for that! The enormity of this mans character and courage is amazing. The stilted narration - you get used to. Give it a go.
