I am 53 years old and picked this book up as a bit of light reading. It was a lot of fun. A very entertaining look at Christmas from different points of view.

A Wonderful Camp Story

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The book is very interesting and entertaining. It would appeal to children of various ages, especially those who have attended a summer camp. I would recommend this book to parents who are trying to interest their child in attending camp. This book will show them what a fun filled experience camp is.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Nate Rocks the Boat?

I really liked the part where Boys White (Nate's team) won the challenge. I felt that Nate deserved this since he had been the underdog for most of the camp experience. It warmed my heart when his team won and especially the fact that he beat his annoying know-it-all sister's team.

Have you listened to any of Rich McVicars other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I have. I think this is one of Mr. McVicar's best performances to date because of the variety of voices he used to portray the various characters in this book.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was moved when Nate received a puppy for his valiant efforts to prevent the car from rolling in the lake with the puppy inside. It made me feel good to see him rewarded for his good deed.

Any additional comments?

I would highly recommend this book to parents, grandparents, and teachers. I believe this book would interest my two school aged grandsons. I can't wait to listen to the next book in the series.

A fun listen for the entire family. I'm sure we'll listen to this one again. A great way to enjoy that long car ride.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I loved the side kick, Josh. His one liners made me laugh out loud, and he was masterfully performed.

Which character as performed by Glenn Hascall was your favorite?

The narrators performance really brought the characters to life. From the great grandfather to the school bully, all the characters dialogue was thoroughly enjoyable.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listened to this one in one sitting while on the drive from Miami to Orlando. A perfect fit.

Welcome Re-appearance of a Popular Personality

I am a librarian with years of experience in the children's room of a city library. I love children's books and I remember the pleasure I had reading earlier Miss Switch books. So when I saw that there was a new Miss Switch after all these years, I pre-ordered it from Amazon.com. I'm happy to report that this book is just as original, clever, and funny as the first two, "The Trouble with Miss Switch" and "Miss Switch to the Rescue."

Children love Miss Switch books. One child, a girl of 10 or so, reported that she was going on a Christmas ski trip with her family, and was taking her copy of "The Trouble With Miss Switch" with her. She had read it seven times, she said, but couldn't bear to leave it behind because, "It's the funniest book I've ever read." The Miss Switch stories are the kind that captivate children like this ten-year-old girl. They stimulate the imaginations of children, who go on to create silly characters and unlikely plots of their own that are akin to those in the books.

In the latest book, Rupert Brown, "great scientist" (according to himself, anyway), once again records his hair-raising experiences and his escape from the machinations of the evil witch, Saturna. He has no magic, nor for that matter any great scientific powers at all. He doesn't need them -- he has Miss Switch. That only he and his friend, Amelia, know that Miss Switch is a witch, adds to his problems and adds to the fun.

Rupert's talking pets, two clever guinea pigs and a turtle who fancies himself an opera star, retain the same unique personalities they had in the first and second books. And in "Miss Switch Online" the animals are joined by a new pet, Fred, a cockatiel, who is priceless.

The snappish, crackling Miss Switch returns of course, and is once again a teacher adored by her students, this time in the unlikely guise of Miss Blossom, who has long, flapping eyelashes and bee-stung lips. We also have Grodork, a warlock and not incidentally Saturna's brother, whom she has planted at Pepperdine Elementary as the school principal the better to do her dirty work. Although he is the handsomest man in the world, alas, he is also the stupidest. It hardly takes a shootout at the old corral to dispose of him, but disposed of he is, in the end, just as humorously as we expect. Happily, Saturna remains intact and, one hopes, will return another day to give Rupert more troubles -- and to give readers more chuckles.

One or two things deserve mention. The clever computowitch from the first book is now a website. Computowitch.com features some of the worst poety you are ever likely to encounter. Nine-year-olds will be rolling in the aisles at Saturna's really bad verses.

11-year-old devoured this in a day

A great, classic book. My adolescent daughter read it in one day, practically one sitting. I had to force her to take a supper break!

Still relatable

I remember receiving the original Scholastic paperback copy of this book when I was in fourth grade, from the teenage daughter of my parents' friends when she cleaned out her bookshelves and gave me a huge grocery bag full of her discards! This was my favorite of the lot. It's about an eleven year old girl who is eagerly awaiting the return of her best friend, who moved away two years ago. Janice moves back into the neighborhood, but to Claudia's dismay her one-time fellow tomboy has turned into a prissy "young lady." Worse yet, she befriends the equally insipid Polly, once Claudia and Janice's biggest rival, and Claudia is on the outside.

I related to Claudia so much, since some of the girls in my class were already starting to turn into little Janices, all about boys and clothes, whereas I still wanted to play Barbies and watch Disney movies. I literally read it to pieces (that secondhand paperback is long gone) and hunted down another copy - the same Scholastic edition with a picture of a sad, pigtailed Claudia turning away from a smirking Janice and Polly. Since it was published in the late 1960s, it's a bit dated, but still relatable for any pre-teen girl who is not quite ready to cross that fine line between child and young adult.

"BeYourself!" - Excellent Message for Young Girls!

I read this book when I was 11 and dealing with a lot of the same garbage as the character, Claudia. I love this book, and would recommend it highly for young girls. I would also recommend this book for parents who might think there's something "wrong" with their kid - it's a story about a normal young girl who's in no hurry to grow up and just wants to be herself. I completely disagree with the reviewer who thought Claudia might have Aspergers - how ridiculous! Why try to put a label on a kid just becuse they don't quite fit in? This happened to me at 11 years old, and my parents had me tested. Guess what? I was just a normal kid trying to have fun. Adults are always bemoaning the fact that kids want to grow up too soon, but it's the adults who are most responsible for this phenomenon, pushing kids to be "mature" etc. Again, this is a great book for kids & adults alike. Claudia is a terrific girl!

Many Adventure.

Claudia is about a tomboy who gets into many adventures. One adventure winds her up with not being able to play with Duffy(her best friend)anymore. She even has all his furnitures ever since he went away to college and has kept it the same exact way, hasn't painted it or anything. A former friend came to her town after a few years and more different than ever.
