A word about the author: William MacDonald (1917-2007) was born in Massachusetts. His parents were from the Isle of Lewis and when he was six years old, his family moved to Stornoway, Scotland, later moving back to Massachusetts. A commended worker for 60 years, a teacher, preacher, mentor, and author of 84 books, including the Believer's Bible Commentary, William MacDonald was a man who said and wrote much. Yet, for those who knew him well, it was his life that left the greatest impression. Speaking of the Lord Jesus, the Bible says, "The one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked" (1 John 2:6). Bill wrote in his commentary, "Jesus' life, as set forth in the Gospels, is our pattern and guide. It is not a life which we can live in our own strength or energy, but is only possible in the power of the Holy Spirit. Our responsibility is to turn our lives over to Him unreservedly, and allow Him to live His life in and through us."

Wonderful devotionals.

This is a wonderful way for me to start each day. It brings God to mind and what better way to start a day than with God? The daily readings are very short but Billy Grahm can say so much using only a few words. I recommend this book very highly to all people who love God and rely on him daily.

Classic Billy Graham

I bought several of these to give my children as Christmas gifts.. My mom said, "If sounds just like Dr. Graham!" Graham is a master of using devotional stories to illustrate Bible passages. The devotionals are brief and are a great way to start and/or end a day. A great way to fill your spirit and your day with positive, thoughtful lessons.

An outstanding personal daily devotion tool

A superb daily devotion prepared by an absolutely superb minister who is totally dedicated to God. It speaks clearly and succinctly to the spiritual and daily human challenges of our day and offers Biblically- based insights and suggestions to assist us in how to deal with life.

This is the fourth consecutive year I have made this book an integral part of my daily personal "quiet time" during which I spend time meditating and preparing for each day.

Additionally I have given a copy of this devotional guide to many of my family and friends.

This is an excellent devotional

I was looking for a new devotional for 2017 that was a daily devotional similar to the previous one I had used and this was it. Very happy with my purchase

Can't go wrong with Billy Graham as the author.

I bought this for my husband for Christmas and every morning we read the daily devotion together. Billy Graham is a wonderful writer and gives insightful stories to illustrate his point at times. Every day we learn something new and it brings us closer to each other and in our walk with God.

The best book written about Rock and Roll in years

This book lead us to the answers we looked for as kids when we could not tell our parents why we liked the music we did. In this book, the author Steven Felix-Jager seeks to find the common ground and point out the major historical and cultural points of why, how and when this music made us who we are today. I have only had 2 days and was not able to stop reading until I was done.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves rock and is seeking to answer questions from their own thoughts on music from the rock and roll genres.

This book has been a fun read. I found this book to be entertaining in an informative way. The comparisons and analogies between two things I love; understanding theology and thinking about the music and musicians I have spent so much time with over the years. The groupings and alignments of rock and roll postures with theological stances give some intriguing insights into both worlds. These two worlds would almost never be in the same book, much less in the same paragraph. It reminds me of how the arts can clearly point us towards the human condition in a way that preachers may have difficulty communicating. Thank you for such an important book.

Holy Spokes is urban gospel

I seriously COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. If you have ever been on a bike, if you see bikes when you are driving, if you have ever had any contact with a bike or someone who loves them, READ THIS. I see the world and people in it in a dramatically different way after reading Laura's wise, urban,Godly wit and wisdom. Holy Spokes is urban gospel.

I love this book...

Iâm so very glad I read this book. In a super-size-me world this author provides a refreshing alternative. She speaks humbly and boldly about how the world looks from the seat of a bicycle. She does not hector, she celebrates. She celebrates the wonder of her city, itâs peoples, the faith, the church, and the glory of our care for one another. In telling her story she invites us to rediscover the world around us, and the way in which love and justice find us in the midst of brokenness and what looks like chaos. I loved this delightful little book.

A work of art

Holy Spokes is a work of art. It shows the evidence of years of careful sculpting through reflection on experiences with cycling, spiritual practice and ministry. Laura tells her story as a beautifully integrated whole. The bicycle experience is a surprising frame for a spiritual autobiography at its finest. A Guide to the Pursuit of God

Todd Outcalt's The Seven Deadly Virtues explores a hidden yet important idea: even the good things we commit ourselves to can lead us astray, if we are not mindful of our underlying motivations and discerning with regard to our true aims. Outcalt reminds us, "Virtues, when seen as an ultimate end or as principles that give us privilege or power, or that we protect for ourselves, can produce deadly outcomes. Virtues all too frequently masquerade as the ultimate goal of the Christian life."

Outcalt does not dismiss the value of virtue, only its proper object or end. Rather than striving for goodness, Outcalt would have us to pursue God, who puts our virtues in their proper place and helps us to live more fully into a righteousness that is not our own, but is that of Jesus Christ.
