    Publisher's Summary:
"Again the kingdom of Heaven is like a pearl merchant on the lookout for choice pearls. When he discovered a pearl of great price, he sold everything he owned and bought it," (Matthew 13:45-46). And thus begins the Pearl of Great Price. Jesus spoke tenderly of a priceless pearl in his sermon about the kingdom of Heaven. Jesus said that he spoke in parables to hide the secrets of the kingdom from some and reveal them to others. This does not mean his parables are full of esoteric information that only a select few can grasp. Indeed, Christ's enemies often understand exactly what his parables mean; the problem is their refusal to trust his teaching about himself and God's kingdom. Join me for a deeper look at our Lord's most inspiring parables.

    Parables
Jesus told stories with a spiritual meaning. They are called parables. A favorite of John Hargrove was "Pearl of Great Price". This has been interpreted two different ways. John preferred to view it as Jesus coming to earth to buy the church with His blood. That the church is valuable to Him. Other parables are mentioned in this book.

    Love it!!!!!
The title was what drew me to this book, as I have always struggled with the subject of God's love. I can say that just by the pages that I've read, this book is amazing. I like how the author stresses God's emotions for us and uses scripture as support. I'm in love with this book and its bound to become my new favorite
    Love that Captivates and Activates
Brent Lokker writes in a very relatable and conversational style, while sharing authentic stories from his own life to illustrate his points. Although the language is simple, he builds a powerful case for the goodness of God and actively encourages the reader's participation in relationship. In fact, Brent doesn't just want to convince you of an intellectual proposition about God's love, he really goes out of his way to activate you in hearing God for yourself, especially if you are willing to respond honestly to the chapter reflections and engage with the prayers he suggests as starting points. While he makes a powerful case for the extravagant grace of God and the privileges of sonship, Brent is careful to fully back his claims with scriptural quotations, often taken from The Message and other contemporary translations. The overall scheme of the book is designed to take you on a journey that includes being wowed by the astonishing grandeur of the gospel, but he doesn't want you to stop there: Brent lets us know that we get to be ambassadors of that same extreme goodness, activated as world-changers, sharing "such as we have," (Acts 3:6) which turns out to be a lot!
A book of life time rememberance that God's love is infinite and He is ever for us.
Although my natural was strict, he had high aspirations for my siblings and I in terms of our future academic and career goals. He was not fully expressive in his love for us outwardly but showed it by giving us gifts and providing for us. When I read Pastor Brent's book, I was so much more assured of my heavenly Father's infinite and unconditional love for me that it propelled me to a deeper and newer level of intimacy with Him. Knowing that God's love is abundant, constant, matchless and much more in spite of the good and lean times guarantees that my identity as His daughter meets His approval. His Word and promises in the book are very true. It is so worth reading, cannot be missed and I hope it spreads globally for the glory of an awesome Author and Finisher of our faith.
    Read, know and love
Brent reveals a perspective that those of us who weren't raised in a perfect home may not have. If you ever doubted your worth or felt unloved you need to read this book. The world all around us speaks lies to us about our identities, but when you hear God's truth about your worth, your heart will leap for joy. We begin to see just how much our Heavenly Father loves us with each page we read.

    Publisher's Summary:
It wasn't supposed to be this way. We start out with hearts brimming with hope and excitement. And that energy carries us for a while, maybe even years. But one day we suddenly find ourselves like the man in the prodigal son story: half dead, going through the dreaded motions, hoping no one around us notices. But they do. It's not that we've stopped loving God; it's just that things have happened along the way that have caused us to settle for small lives defined primarily by activity for God. We look around and sigh: It wasn't supposed to be this way.
Author Greg Hawkins knows that reality firsthand. He also knows there is something beyond that reality if we have the courage to step out and hope once more. Far from simply more stuff to do, Greg shares the necessary and doable shifts in our thought and language that lead to true intimacy with God. That's the life of more we've hoped for all along, the life where everything is waiting for us!

    Spiritual Disciplines Revisited
This book begins with the monumental question, "Is life meant to be MORE for you than it is right now?" The reader is hooked. Once the question is posed, the author reminds us that love, not Christian activity, is the key to the abundant life. So far, so good. Then, in a chapter called "Stunning Breakthrough," people are divided into 4 groups: 1) those who believe in God but are unsure about Jesus, 2) those who believe Jesus is God's Son and are working on what that means for their lives, 3) those who have a close relationship with Jesus and are looking to him for comfort and direction, and 4) those who describe their relationship with Jesus as all-important and say it defines everything they think and do. The book's self-described goal becomes how to move people into Group 4, where they will get MORE out of life through intimacy with Christ. By this point, the reader is one quarter of the way through the book and very much engaged. From that point on, however, each chapter is a suggestion on how to increase intimacy with God: by saying, "I'm sorry" (confession), thinking in terms of "us" rather than "me" (God as a teammate), studying the Bible daily, building relationships with others (community), serving others, and slowing down to enjoy the now. Applying these six suggestions will get a person into Group 4. This is a worthwhile and helpful read, but one wonders how this book is different from the classic books on spiritual disciplines, other than selecting just a few of them and merging them with some new personal illustrations.
    More
For several years now, I have felt God calling me to more. I didnât, and really still donât, completely understand what my âmoreâ means. I just know that God has more in store for me. Even though I am not certain exactly what that means, I do know what it doesnât mean. I donât necessarily believe that my more is a bigger stage or bigger audience. It has nothing to do with more recognition or even more financial blessings. Although in could include any or all of these things, I donât believe any are the basis for the âmoreâ God has in store.
So when I saw the title of Greg Hawkins book More, I knew I had to pick it up.

Secretive, controversial, radical...Opus Dei. Shedding lights onto Catholicism most secret society!
Of the billion or so Catholics in the world, the members of Opus Dei constitute almost a hundredth of one percent. Though their numbers might be relatively minuscule, their reputation is many orders of magnitude greater. While the guiding lights of the Church have taken a more genial, modern approach to religion in the last century, the members of Opus Dei have stuck rigidly to the traditions of old. In doing so, they have become known as the hardcore. The fiercely devoted. The stringently religious. Unmoving, distant, and utterly compelling. In an age when the Vatican is reaching out to many millions of people worldwide, Opus Dei seems to be shrouded in secrecy, a secret sect that adheres to the ancient practices of Christianity.
Perhaps because of this adherence to the older models of Christianity, the group has come to represent the most devoted and most controversial of all Catholic arms. Its practices are said to include ancient languages, self-flagellation, corporal mortification, aggressive recruiting, controlling the free will of members, cult-like behavior, misogynistic policies, support of fascists, and many more secrets hidden away within the organization's walls.
In this book, we will attempt to look deeply into the hidden history of Catholicism's most radical and divisive sect. Using ancient texts, accounts of former members, extensive research, and secret documents, we will discover the truth behind Opus Dei. If you would like to learn more about this zealous, sometimes terrifying organization, then listen. For the truth behind Catholicism's secret sect, this book is all you will ever need.

    Title: Christian Love
    Author: Bernard Brady
    Narrator: Dan Kassis
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 13 hrs and 15 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 07-04-16
    Publisher: University Press Audiobooks
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Bernard Brady has given us a rare, delightful, and thought-provoking book - a volume that belongs on the desk or the bed-stand of anyone in search of the rich and varied dimensions of Christian love. Christians are taught that God is love and are commanded to love their neighbors and their enemies. These truths are not controversial. What is controversial and indeed has been controversial throughout the history of Christianity, is the meaning of this love. This book explores the tradition of Christian reflection on the meaning - and experience - of love, loving, and being loved.
Many books have been written about Christian love, but no book has gathered together this kind of primary source material and covered such a wide range of perspectives, allowing the listener to engage directly with the thought and experience of some of the greatest Christian minds on the topic of love. Bernard Brady covers with remarkable clarity the breadth and depth of discussions on Christian love, from the Bible to contemporary experience, to create this - a survey of how Christians through the ages have understood love.
The book is published by Georgetown University Press.
    Critic Reviews:
"Students and teachers alike will learn much from the work of this very talented pedagogue." (Charles E. Curran, Southern Methodist University)
"This a fine collection of representative writings from the most important figures in the history of Christian love, as well as a helpful collection of contemporary approaches to this central topic in theology. Bernard Brady has done a valuable service to the field in making these fundamental resources readily available for students and faculty alike." (Stephen J. Pope, chair, Boston College)
"Carefully researched and engagingly written, Brady's book will become a treasured resource for anyone wanting to explore how Christians have thought about love." (Paul J. Wadell, St. Norbert College)

Another Good Book for my Library of study!
This book was a requirement for school and it is outstanding. So much information I don't know where to start. I'm glad my professor made this book a requirement.
    Awesomeness
This is the best book I have read on love. I have been a Christian for 16 years and have been trying to figure it all out reading many books. I agree with the concept of love being a great mixture of different love types. Bravo Zulu and thank you.
    Packed With Insights
Brady has given us an historical tour of biblical and Christian commentary on love. My own favorite section is that on Augustine. Brady also covers that other great of the Catholic tradition, Aquinas. Brady also collects the thoughts of modern, lesser known theologians on the theme of love. The excerpts from theologians William D'Arcy and Edward Vacek are thought-provoking. Reading this book will lead you to ponder the quality of your own friendships and relationships.
    Amazing
I actually took Brady's class at the University of St. Thomas that is based around this book, and while not being the most religious person myself, I still found the class and the book to be remarkably wonderful. His writing style as well as style of teaching are very unique, and he offers many insightful ideas that everyone should incorporate into their own lives.
