Is Read Soooo Slowly

Any additional comments?

My 2.5 year old son loves this story when I read from the picture book and he's decent at listening to audiobooks, especially if he already knows the story. However, this audiobook is read so slowly so an early reader could follow along if they had the book in front of them. The narrator even prompts the child to turn the page and describes what is on the page. It works for my 5 year old who is an early reader, but it loses the story's magic and rhyme when it has all the page turning breaks and is read so slowly. I wish the description of the book had something about what to expect with this audiobook. I should have listened to a sample before I purchased the 6.5 minute book for over $7. The fact that my 5 year old likes to follow along with the words and book we have makes it not a total loss for me.

If you have no idea what a riggleberry bloke is, don't despair! You'll find a lot of things within the pages of this little book that you'll have no prior knowledge on which to base your definition - and that's what makes it so fun!

Take a dictionary. Add it to the washing machine. Set the machine on spin cycle. Wait to see what it spits out. If you follow these directions, as Jon Slone possibly did, you'll come up with a nifty little set of rhymes, limericks, and poems to tickle your fancy.

Inside this book, you'll discover "Poppasquat Yo Yo McNoinkle Backtrackit." You'll find out exactly who "Riggleberry Bloke" is. You'll be taken back to your childhood with "Ugly Biscuit." "It Could Be An Invisible Cyclops Named Warner," and whose to say it's not? Or, you could even be introduced to one of my personal favorite characters, "Flee Market Mortie."

RIGGLEBERRY BLOKE is a fun, tongue-twisting read for all ages. Great for reluctant readers!

My 11-year-old daughter received this as a gift, and she loved it. I highly recommend this book, especially if your child is a fan of Shel Silverstein or a reluctant reader. The poems are clever and fun!

LOVED IT!!!

I bought this gift as a stocking-stuffer for my 9 year old and before I had time to wrap it, I had been totally sucked in! All the stories I've read have been both entertaining and thoughtful. It's nice these days to have something a little lighter to read that has a positive message. I would recommend this to anyone, especially families who have children (good stocking stuffer, it's why I got mine). I also feel there is a message behind the stories that is great for folks of all ages. Normally I don't review products but this was so surprisingly intriguing I had to let folks know.

Looking forward to the next Jon Slone book!!

Excellent book for kids

This book is great! I use it in my Children's Ministry and my daughters love to have a silly poem read prior to going to bed. John is an incredible wordsmith who fills the pages with creative stories and shows a mastery of provoking your imagination.

This is an excellent disk for in the car, and a nice book to read at story time. The stories are mostly familiar, with some adaptations which you may find interesting, or annoying since it's not exactly the same as when you were a child.

Ethereal glowing illustrations draw you in to the woodcutter's dilemma

I agree with the story reviews, so I will address the pictures, because they are what drew me in to the story. Nicoletta Ceccoli is gifted in creating ethereal characters and settings that are appropriately "other worldly", yet soft and full of empathy. She has an expressive style, full of dreamy feeling and dramatic space and color that makes me believe I could walk into these evocative landscapes and understand the woodcutter's dilemma.

Check out other titles she has illustrated if you too find this work appealing: "An Island in the Sun","The Vilage of the Basketeers", "Firefighters in the Dark","The Princess and the White Bear King","Little Red Riding Hood", and "The Girl in the Castle inside the Museum".

Gentle mellow story and illustrations

This story is about a poor woodcutter who saves a faerie (also known as a fairy) from a circling hawk. In return the fairy grants him one wish. It is a difficult decision for the man because his wife wants a child, his mother wants her eyesight restored, and his father wants gold so they will no longer go hungry. He stares up to the sky for inspiration, and a falling star helps him make his choice. It is a clever choice because he has considered all the compelling requests and comes up with one wish that answers all.

The book has beautiful illustrations and aligns well with the mellow story.

We have found that the book is more suitable for children who are happy just to listen - it is not a book where the children get excited about what is going to happen next and attempt to guess.

I bought this book for the art.

pretty folk art pictures and a sweet story

This story is about a wood cutter who is given a wish by a faerie for saving his life. The wood cutter returns home with the wish only to find his family at odds over what he should wish for. In the end the wood cutter finds a way to make everyone happy. I like the story, but it is not one of my 3 year old's favorites.

A beautifully illustrated story w/ an ingenious twist.

On a seemingly ordinary day, a poor woodcutter rescues a faerie from a preying hawk. In return for saving his life, the faerie gives the woodcutter a gift of one wish. As the woodcutter dreams of things he's always desired, he remembers his family back at home and decides that they must all decide on what the wish will be. The woodcutter is more confused than ever when his wife wants him to wish for the child they've never been able to have, his blind mother wants him to wish for her to regain her eyesight, and his father wants him to wish for gold. How can he make his entire family happy with just one wish?

This is the type of enchanting story that many children will love. They will especially enjoy hearing the story read aloud to them.

interesting!

I just wrote another review for a counting book and stated that it was boring - which it was - this one, while still a counting book, actually gets a bit interesting. The story actually makes a bit of sense, the kid is getting all these animals as gifts, and each animal keeps having a baby - so it becomes a multiplication book, of sorts, and goes well past 10, which is nice. My son also thinks it's fun! He much prefers this one over the 'abuelita fue al mercado' one. I also took it to their preschool class to read, and they ALL had fun making animal sounds and counting - and finally, an important point, it's well written and the Spanish is good.

Boring!

Not much algarabia at all! This book is supposed to be a song about giving and counting with farm animals. Sounds cute, however, it is really boring. At least in this Spanish version, nothing at all rhymes. The length of the verses is variable and arbitrary and even the lyrics are uninteresting.

The book comes with a CD where a man is singing the song and it is just so slow. The song is just like the book, not exciting, slow, and boring. Maybe its just me.

This book may work for other kids that are learning Spanish and want to learn the name of farm animals and their offspring.

Love this music/book!

Cute pictures, great song. It's a bit on the slow side, but my 10 month old loves it. We sing along and point to the animals as their names are said. We also have El Loro Tico Tango, which is catchy and up beat, but I think this will be easier for my son to sing along to once he starts talking.

Make sure you get the version with the CD - it's worth it.

There is something wonderful and magical about the music

There is something wonderful and magical about the music, rhythm and illustrations of this story. My five year old loves it!

Daughter's favorite book

This books is fantastic. I have been reading it to my daughter since she was 6 months old, and now at 10 months she will sit still through most of it, and will get really excited to hear me do all the barnyard animals. As a native Spanish speaker, I think that the text is fantastic and is not awkwardly translated from English. I am on the look out for good Spanish children's books, and so far this is the best one we've encountered, especially if you really let yourself be silly when reading the animal noises. Unlock your silly bone and watch your children giggle their way through this farmyard adventure, based on a Chilean folklore story.

This is a lovely audio book and the length is just right. All 3 of my children (9, 5 & 3 years old) loved the stories and listen to them regularly.

so catchy

this download is great for the under 5's. the only problem being that the songs stick in your head for hours. But if it keeps the little ones quiet in the car it has to be worth it.
