One of our favorite books! I received it as a classroom gift a couple years ago. I had my five year old help me pick out Christmas gifts for family members and he picked this book to purchase for his cousin!

This is a book about how man made animals their work slaves.. The camel refused to work so was given a hump as a punishment... Dumbest story ever!

My son loves the books!

Excellent

Join Elliot and his friends in the wonderful world of Elliot's Park, based on Pioneer Park in Walla Walla, Washington. In this book, the third in the series, Elliot and his friends are hosting the Walnut Cup, the Squirrel world cup of soccer. These tales were originally created by Patrick for his daughter while they visited the real park. There is a great cast of characters including Chip the larger-than-average squirrel with a chipped front tooth. You will also meet Crash, the only flying squirrel in the park, Elliot the book worm with glasses who loves collared shirts, wide ties and solving problems, and many, many others. Even Mister Nibbles from the first book, Saving Mister Nibbles, makes an appearance, along with soccer teams from Brazil, Germany, Sweden, Italy, France, Japan and Spain.

This is a great story about making mistakes, and then learning from them and helping to fix them. Pistachio is a nut addict and a bit of a nut, and even though a perfectly round walnut is needed for the teams to play, he cannot help himself from taking the game nut and trying to eat it. Crash swoops in from the skies and knocks him over, and the game nut goes into the pond. Pistachio knows he has made a mistake, and it is affecting not only himself but also others. He attempts to recover the nut even though it means jousting with a giant mean swan. That's when the adventures really begin. This is a great book for the whole family.

These books are aimed at a younger audience than his other works, yet it will captivate children of all ages. The artwork by James is excellent. I was a little concerned when the illustrator had changed, but the transition appears seamless. And as an added bonus there are exercises at the end of the book, to create fun for a family or class. In this book they include:

great for a 5-year-old

I found this first on audiobook just by chance at the library. My 5-year-old really enjoyed listening to the story so we got the paperback version to read. I had never heard of this series before and now we've read all the titles, memorable characters and light but enjoyable topics for kids who are just starting to read on their own.

Good story

We were tired from a long day of school and work and it was raining on the drive home. We didn't feeling like

listening to our usual rock/pop music but didn't have the energy to entertain ourselves with conversation. We put this CD in and quietly listened to the stories. We pulled in the driveway, closed our eyes, and let

the stories of racoon's fight over his marshmallow treasures, Bear's home is where the heart is and coyote's hunger quest fill our minds and relax our bodies. We rested and listened. It was very entertaining and enjoyable for both us!!!

Captivating Nature Stories!

A delightful set of stories about three different animals and a little piece out of their daily lives. These are definitely what I call "living stories" The tales were masterfully woven and children learn all sorts of wonderful things about how the animals live, what it eats, how it acts BUT the child never knows that they are actually "learning" anything because the stories are so captivating. The well-chosen, descriptive vocabulary brings the animals alive, you can actually see them on the movie screen in your mind!

Thanks Melody Warnick, your keen observation of the animal world and your enchanting communication made these an enjoyable hour for my family! The only complaint we had about these stories is that they came to an end too quickly!

Edutaining

Tightly written stories provide a great balance of facts with entertaining stories. This CD was a little young for my son (age 10 & prolific reader); however, he really loved the Johnny Appleseed & other tales. Narration is very soothing. Would be excellent for children who like to listen to stories at bedtime.

Great Stories!

I got this cd along with "Johnny Appleseed and Other American Legends" a few years ago as part of a promotion. She is 11 now, and still thoroughly enjoys them! In fact, tonight, she just said, "Mom we need to get some more of these!"
