    Really, really bad
Childish dialogue and totally predictable action. The author might have had a decent idea for a series, but he just didn't have the talent to make it work. In some respects it's a cheap sex crime novel loosely disguised as bad fantasy; and that's being kind. But, it's good for a laugh!
    Predictable, but OK
I was expecting a little more of a story, but all in all it wasn't half bad. I think it relied a little more of sex appeal than storyline. Not one I would listen to again.

"Allegra Fairweather here. Paranormal investigator. Got problems with specters? Shapeshifters? I'm the woman to call. Just don't call me a Ghostbuster. The last guy who did that ended up flat on his back with my boot at his throat.
"With my 99.5% success rate, solving the mystery of a bleeding rose that has sprung up on the shores of Loch Furness should have been an easy gig. But already I've heard the shriek of the local banshee, discovered two bodies (and then lost two bodies), and had a near-death encounter with a 300-year-old ghost. And perhaps most dangerous of all, the hot pub owner who hired me now wants to show me exactly what's under his kilt.
"Luckily, I'm ably assisted by my very own guardian angel. I'm grateful for his help - but he's also drop-dead gorgeous. A bit distracting when I've got a mystery to solve, and the clock is ticking...."

    Worst book ever
I found the description of this novel & title to be fairly off-putting. But I ended up purchasing it as I needed something to listen to & it had good reviews on Amazon.
I can not even begin to explain how incredibly bad it was. This read like an extremely poorly written YA novel. The author tossed in everything from guardian angels to banshees to witches & selkies & it didn't work.
If I could give it less than one star I would.
    Such a bad story
The mystery of the story why this woman still LUSTING after her guardian angle. The horrendous part is why would someone make that the main focus for a novel.
    Silly, but mostly harmless
Produced by Harlequin. I wish I'd noticed that before I bought it. This incredibly silly story includes a mishmash of paranormal happenings as an excuse for a normal "paranormal detective" to agonize over why she can't have sex with her guardian angel. If you accept the story for what it is, and can get over a heroine who loses focus on the hot Scotsman exploring her oral cavity with his tongue (!) and drifts off on why she doesn't find him so hot, and agonizes over where to find glass-cutting equipment to break into a house when she believes someone is going to commit suicide . . . well, if you're busy housecleaning the story is bearable. The narrator wasn't wonderful, I'd think twice about buying something with her name on it.

The battle was raging, the air hot with smoke, loud with rifle fire. Then the air turned dim with an eerie mist, and for Jason Tarkenton, captain of the Confederate cavalry, the true nightmare began.
Vickie Knox was today's woman dressed like yesterday's, wearing Yankee garb to play a part. But playacting ended when a Reb stepped out of the mist and took her prisoner - for real.
They never should have met, never should have battled - never should have loved. But something had gone wrong with time itself, weaving together past and present like torn threads of a tattered tapestry. Something had gone wrong, and in mending such shredded silk, their love - and their lives - might be the final sacrifice.

    Good story, terrible narration
I think my title says it all. I'm going to give this 3 stars, but, if the story didn't hold up.....................I just canNOT stand this narrator! She sounds like she's 3/4 in the bag and trying to not sound it. If I were the author of this book, I'd be mad they used this narrator and implicitly ask that she not be used again. Cripes.
    Story starts slow...narrator is terrible!
Save your money and time. This narrator has a very breathy, pretentious voice and a way of phrasing that repeatedly breaks the flow of the story. It was very difficult for me to follow the storyline because I kept drifting off--tuning out the irratation! I buy an average of 4 books a month from Audible and this is only the second I'd like to return for a full refund.
    Lame
I am normally a big reader of Heather Graham but I did not like this story one bit. It seems that she went to a Civil War Reenactment and came up with a neat idea but hurriedly wrote something. She did not give it a whole lot of depth. I was not thrilled with the narration either. Ms Chapman made the hero sound like a back-woods hillbilly. It did not do anything to make him seem attractive at all.
    Don't!!!
This is my first bad review of the books I have downloaded. I would like a refund if that is possible. The narrator (although may be a nice person) needs to find another job. Fingernails on a chalk board! I don't even know if the story is good because I kept skipping through it to see if it got any better. Normally, I listen to the sample, but if I did, I did not catch the atrocious narration or slow slow slow story line. Save your money for something else, DON'T spend it on this!
    I Hear Ya
The story line is pretty interesting, but the narration is not that good. The narrator's male voice was too dull, with no emotions. All the characters seem Anatomic! Unfortunately, the narrator really makes a difference.

    descent
I'm still annoyed with the title being put half way through the book it's like they think we'll forget it if they don't other than that a decent book good but not great on par with the previous ones.
    Constantly Begging
What disappointed you about Edge of Desire?
The female lead constantly begging the male lead to have sex with her. He continuously says no. Any normal woman would give it up and walk away but not this women. The woman keeps coming back.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
She is not very good at male voices.
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The story line is good. I didn't mind the other books although they also had female leads that had to beg their men to give in and have sex with them. It was just over the top in this book.
    Great story - Horrible Narration
Loved Riley's story but still couldn't stand the narrator. It's not bad enough to miss the book, but she's not good. I love how the story was able to build on what the first two books had.

    Good but...
There are four female 'leads' in this one. One of the lead females has the mentality/emotions of a child and I found myself rolling my eyes a few times because of it. She was just TOO innocent and sheltered and it made me, at points, want to gag.
Another female lead was stupid and hardheaded and you wanted to choke her.
The other two were pretty strong and I'm sure, when their time comes, they'll have good books.
The men were well written and interesting. They didn't have a lot of gag worthy moments.
If you're looking for a sexual book, don't look here. There are, if I remember correctly, only two love scenes in this.
I sometimes think it was spread too thin but it was the first in this 'series' and it has to introduce a lot of people to move the series forward.
For Maggie Shayne, I enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to her next piece.
    Fantastic Voice
I've always been a Maggie Shayne fan, but Christian Rummel really brought it to life. The voice made the story all the better and kept me interested through the entire story.
    could of, should of...
This story had all the elements to make a great story. I just kept waiting for it to happen. I made it all the way to the end and then it just ended. Through the entire book I was expecting something to happen to warrant listening to the end and then nothing.
    Demon's Kiss
Well writen, well read, but slightly predictable.
    Good read!
I haven't read a lot by Maggie Shayne but this is really good. It's a series and I can't wait to read the next one!

Just when Nikki Braxton has given up on finding a normal guy, she meets cowboy Jake McCann. Tall, dark, and delicious, he could be the ideal man...if he wasn't a vampire. Well, at least that explains his...uh...hunger for her.
Meanwhile, that down-and-dirty sex they're having is giving him the energy he needs to destroy his nemesis and break the vampire curse. Good thing, because being with Nikki makes him long for a normal life that much more.
But then Nikki is abducted. If Jake saves her, he may lose his only shot at becoming human again. Talk about damned if you do....
    Members Reviews:
    Decliously dead and sexy.
The first of the vampire novels set in Skull Creek, Texas and it's a good introduction to the setting.
Jake McCann lives on blood and sexual energy, he needs either to survive and provide him with strength, so he's used to one night stands with women and moving on. But if he's to reclaim his humanity he must kill the vampire who turned him and that means spending time in Skull Creek until his maker arrives to mark the day his maker was turned. So, when he sets his sights on Nikki Braxton it's as a source of energy, not a relationship.
As for Nikki, she's spent her life trying to find the balancing point between her Aunt - the 'good' one, and her mother the 'bad' one. One expects her to be a saint, the other wants her to dive headfirst, without a life guard, into being a bad girl. All she wants is the chance to be herself, whoever that might be.
Meeting Jake, who she believes is simply passing through and will be gone come morning, gives her a chance to be the bad girl - even if only for one night. But all backfires when rumor has her engaged to Jake before she can blink, and the infuriating man hasn't left town - and doesn't plan on doing so for another six days...
All in all a very satisfying read/listen. The narrator worked very well for this one. Her male voices didn't come off as sissy, but were well portrayed.

Addison Adelaide-Spencer has always had a natural talent for songwriting. She find herself humming a tune, then running around the house like a chicken with its head cut off looking for a pen and scrap of paper. Receipts, index cards, and magazines: nothing was safe from her scribbles. But these were songs she wrote for herself, not for anyone else. So when her Grandma sent her song to the Konstantine Talent Agency without her knowledge, Addison flipped her lid. Would these strangers even accept her, given her family secret?
Mark Saint knows talent when he sees it. His grandfather used to say "There ain't no fakin' talent." On stage he plays the same bass fiddle his grandfather did and is always looking for the best songs for him and his brothers to record. So he drove across the state to the dilapidated house in the middle of nowhere to meet the woman who wrote this special song. When he first laid eyes on her, he knew she'd be his mate.

Very short and sweet shifter romances
This was my first Becca Fanning book. I enjoyed it and will most likely read more by her, when I'm in the mood for very short, sweet shifter stories.
Coming into this book, I had read the reviews, and I'm in agreement. This story is actually a collection of short shifter stories in Ms. Fanning's works, so if you want a good sampling and are new to her, this is an excellent way to go. There are a lot of short stories, taking me about 40 minutes to read each. The grammar is well-done, but the formatting and plot need help. There are no chapter designations, as others have said, and it is to the detriment of all the stories. It's hard to search. The plot is very thin, so if you just want a sweet romance with lots of instalove, then you'll like this.
The couple in this case is Mark and Addy. I also ended up reading the story about Matthew and Mel since they were brought up a few times in Mark's story and were included in this collection. Mark's story is standalone. I found Addy to be sheltered and sweet, so innocent and scared. I liked her the best. Mel has a determined streak to her, and all the Saint men are pleasant, protective shifters. However, due to the very short length of the story and lack of anything happening other than them meeting and getting together, I can't say much more about the characters. There's a large world that could have so much done with it, and the men deserve more air time as we hear about their family and history. Of the two stories I read, I liked Mark and Addy's more because it seemed slightly more realistic (as realistic as instalove stories can be), and the way Mark helped Addy was adorable.
Overall, if you're looking for a really short story with a little bit of steam (it's decent), shifter action, very little action/plot, and lots of sweetness, this is a good way to go. Otherwise, if you're looking for something more substantial, look elsewhere. Lots of options.
    Lots of short ones
Mark is good, it ends at about 19%. I wanted more about what is up with her father's family. There is a snippet, but no follow up.
The first in this series is also presented later, as are some of her other series. One series is all out of order, which really interrupts the flow.

    Publisher's Summary:
This audiobook contains erotic, graphic, and sexually-charged scenes and language.
We first met Jacob and Allison in Alpha Awakened and traveled through a harrowing year of revelations. Their fierce passions that brought them together in a torrid moment in time, and then the separation that left Jacob on the brink of insanity and Allison in a spell like trance the doctors called a coma.
In Omega Rising, they are reunited in Alaska and must now face uncharted territory as their dormant lycanthropic blood is awakened. They have been welcomed into a burgeoning family with similar genetics and as the next full moon approaches they all prepare for dramatic, and life altering events to unfold.
This book is about the passionate affairs of unsuspecting individuals thrust upon each other and unable to fight the magnetic draw they both feel. Time, distance, and even mythological forces cannot keep them apart in this journey of mated love.
"Aside from the mythology and lore aspect that these creatures did in fact exist, and aside from the fact that she was apparently one of these creatures, and actually mated to another. Yeah, aside from all that hooey, she was just a bit excited. For the first time in her life she felt as if she belonged. There was a family downstairs that wanted her, an impressive man that desired her, and to top it all off, she was somehow integral to their pack balance. So yeah, she was into this.
She would no longer be forced to merely survive. Maybe, now she could thrive and become all she was meant to be. Bring it! She nodded at her reflection one more time, checking that her hair was up and tight against her scalp. As tight as that much curly hair could get, and she left the bathroom on a mission. Lets get bit!"

    OMG!
What made the experience of listening to Omega Rising the most enjoyable?
Being able to listen to the book allowed me to just kick back, relax and soak in the entire book without distractions. Joshua Story's voice is soothing and allowed me to concentrate on the story itself.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Omega Rising?
Their mating is one of the most memorable moments in this book, even though there are many throughout the entire book.
What does Joshua Story bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
His wonderful voice. His accent makes you want to melt.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book made me cry and laugh. It makes you ache for the two main characters of Jacob and Allison with all of the hurdles they have had to jump to get where they are now.
    Any additional comments?
I love this series and can't wait to read/listen to the final chapter. Payne has an awesome imagination, and she has dug deep within to come up with this wonderful series. This is definitely a winner in my books and would recommend to anyone interested in the paranormal/shifter genre.
    HOT!! Loved this 2nd installment
What did you love best about Omega Rising?
Allison and Jacob were awesome and I loved how the story continued. The narrator's accent is great and we all know with audiobooks, it's really all about the narrator. If the narrator isn't good, it makes the book not good. I hadn't read this one ahead of time so listening was my first time.

    Engaging time travel/YA romance
Chase Harper is in his senior year trying to figure out how best to prepare for college. He is on a camping adventure with family when he discovers a box containing an old, odd item that resembles a pocket watch. He touches the dials and a soft light glows. He stumbles and awakens in a landscape that is strange although similar. He tries to find his way back to the campsite but nothing is quite right. Then he sees two Mexican cowboys riding off with a woman. He follows and rescues Ellie in 1863.
Ellie is charmed by the young man who rescues her but she is more concerned with finding her grandfather and his secret treasure. She is distressed to discover that Chase has the time tracker but she explains that it is his now since it responded to him. She chooses to travel with him to 2011 so she can explain more of what is happening.
A strong attraction develops between Chase and Ellie although they try to pretend they are just friends to ward off any difficulties with Chases family. Chase has to learn the use and meaning of the gadget and decide if he wants to accept the responsibilities of using it. He and Ellie will face danger as they try to find a way to protect each other.
I felt the story started a bit slowly but after a short while I was pulled in by the mystery, travel and suspense. I enjoyed the main characters and really liked the gentle, sweet level of the teenage romance. There are some underlying faith comments that also warmed my heart. The travel plot has interesting twists that build background for the series and make this more than a YA romance. I recommend this as an entertaining listen for those who enjoy YA romance and time travel adventure.
Audio Notes: James Simenc does a fine job with the narration. His voice suits Chase as the primary character and he does a good job with distinguishable voices for the female characters as well as other male voices.
