    Extremely helpful
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This was helpful for passing my NMLS test when I took it the second time. I did not pass it the first time without it as a study aide.
    Any additional comments?
I had to take the test for a second time so I bought this audiobook I hope of reinforcing what I already knew and to help me memorize things I was struggling with.
I listened to it once from start to finish 3 days prior to my test. On the day of my test, I listened to the parts I was struggling with several times. I focused on definitions, formulas, and quick facts which helped me to memorize a lot of key points I the NMLS test.
The entire book is a little over 3 hours long but it breaks things down well into the main sections tested on. In my opinion, it was a helpful tool if my passing the test the second time. It seemed to help jog my memory when coming across questions on the test. Well worth the price of the test! Kelly C.
    Great Test Preparation Tool
    Any additional comments?
I found this a very helpful tool to help reinforce some of the key concepts and to help me memorize important facts by listening to it. Lessons and key points relevant to the test are explained very well and told to you in different manors to help it sink in. Well worth the price.
    Good baseline knowledge
Great for us to use for its function, to supplement text test prep. This will not replace normal studying. Good luck!
great for driving and while at the gym
great for driving and while at the gym i commute two hours a day to the city and this allows me to not waste any time not studying
    Good to fall asleep with
No really! good to fall asleep studying for the mortgage exam playing Audible next to your head. However there are mistakes & updates. It doesn't help to study if you don't know where the changes are; if you are clearly studying some wrong, inaccurate info. This should definitely be updated with bold/bullet points, clearly pointing out changes, i.e., there is no longer a GFE, etc. 1 of the practice test answers are incorrect. 99.9% sure but I have to find it and they want this review now. Will update. (Just like Book should!) Mortgage broker 10 years, getting back in the biz.

  • The Art of Negotiation Audiobook by Michael Wheeler

    Title: The Art of Negotiation
Subtitle: How to Improvise Agreement in a Chaotic World
    Author: Michael Wheeler
    Narrator: Jeff Cummings
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 9 hrs and 39 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 10-08-13
    Publisher: Brilliance Audio
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 46 votes
    Genres: Business, Career Skills
    Publisher's Summary:
A member of the world-renowned Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School introduces the powerful next-generation approach to negotiation.
For many years, two approaches to negotiation have prevailed: the "win-win" method exemplified in Getting to Yes by Roger Fisher, William Ury, and Bruce Patton; and the hard-bargaining style of Herb Cohen's You Can Negotiate Anything. Now award-winning Harvard Business School professor Michael Wheeler provides a dynamic alternative to one-size-fits-all strategies that don't match real world realities.
The Art of Negotiation shows how master negotiators thrive in the face of chaos and uncertainty. They don't trap themselves with rigid plans. Instead they understand negotiation as a process of exploration that demands ongoing learning, adapting, and influencing. Their agility enables them to reach agreement when others would be stalemated.
Michael Wheeler illuminates the improvisational nature of negotiation, drawing on his own research and his work with Program on Negotiation colleagues. He explains how the best practices of diplomats such as George J. Mitchell, dealmaker Bruce Wasserstein, and Hollywood producer Jerry Weintraub apply to everyday transactions like selling a house, buying a car, or landing a new contract. Wheeler also draws lessons on agility and creativity from fields like jazz, sports, theater, and even military science.

    Critic Reviews:
"Michael Wheeler has written a new business classic. He presents powerful negotiation strategies and techniques for managers in any industry." (Henry McGee, former president, HBO Home Entertainment)
    Members Reviews:
Very good, listened to it four times in a row
Very good, listened to it four times in a row. Gave me confidence in my negotiating skills and took the fear and stress of the process out. I have a lot more deals going through now that I have learned some new skills.
    "This is advanced stuff."
True, but it is written in a practical, accessible way. I won't repeat what other reviewers have said, but I have to note that when headlines are about lines in the sand it is very refreshing to read how much can be gained by flexibility. This book demonstrates how your goals can often be better achieved through observing, listening, and being willing to consider and accept options you had not even contemplated before the negotiation began. I think of 5 people to give this to in December. Bravo!
    Honest and informative
An enjoyable read in part due to the real life examples and dilemmas that a reader (no matter the age or occupation) may face in daily life.
    good stories looking for structure
One cannot read enough about the challenges of negotiation. There are many nuggets of wisdom and experience in this book and it adds to the body of work on the subject. It is not easy to summarize because it lacks a clear structure even though Mr Wheeler tries to present a framework. If you approach this book as a series of insights and academic studies you won't be disappointed if you look for the next "Getting to Yes" or "3 D negotiation" you will be disappointed.
A new perspective on negotiation dynamics
A new perspective on negotiation, grounded in both academic research and real-life experience in an amazingly wide range of fields.

    Title: One Simple Idea
Subtitle: Turn Your Dreams into a Licensing Goldmine While Letting Others Do the Work
    Author: Stephen Key
    Narrator: Tim Lundeen
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 8 hrs and 27 mins

    Publisher: McGraw-Hill Education
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 154 votes
    Genres: Business, Career Skills
    Publisher's Summary:
For as long as you can remember, youve had a dream. You've longed to see your product idea come to fruition so you never have to work for anyone else again.
Stephen Key has been living this dream for 30 years. The developer of such lucrative products as Michael Jordan's WallBall, the Spinformation rotating label, and HotPicks guitar picks, he knows better than anyone how to make a great living as an entrepreneur. Key develops ideas for new products, licenses them out, collects royalty checks, and doesn't look back. You can do it, too. All you need is One Simple Idea. In this book, Key reveals the secrets that helped him and thousands of his students - including best-selling author Tim Ferriss - turn their creativity into a passive income generator by "renting" an idea to a company, which takes care of R&D, production, marketing, sales, accounting, distribution, and everything else you don't want to do.
Youll be amazed at how simple the process of licensing an idea for profit actually is. Key explains how to:
The age-old business assumption that ideas must come from within organizations has been shattered. From global corporations to small businesses, companies have become so confident in outside entrepreneurs that licensing is now a $500 billion industry. Businesses need "freelancers" like Key - and you - to provide creative, marketable ideas for new offerings.
With One Simple Idea, there's no prototyping, no patents, and, best of all, no risk. You can make the system work for you - rather than the other way around.
    Critic Reviews:
"Ever heard of Teddy Ruxpin or Lazer Tag? Both have Stephen Key's mark on them. He is the Yoda of 'renting' ideas for serious passive income. From how-to to war stories, this is a great book." (Tim Ferriss, author of The 4-Hour Workweek)
"Mr. Keys brilliance, wisdom, and insight will make you rich. Buy this book!" (Mark Victor Hansen, best-selling author and co-creator of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series)
"Stephen Key has written a book overflowing with the all-important information that inventors need: a step-by-step guide through everything that goes into a successful product introduction." (Gary Dahl, Pet Rock inventor)
    Members Reviews:
    Complete BS
this book could have been half an hour long if the author didn't talk about himself so much. This is like a son or daughter of a super famous celebrity writing a book on how easy it is to break into the film industry. Nothing in this book is easy or cheap to do as the author would have you believe.
The first five hours of this book talks about how to get an idea. Hundreds of books like this on the market already.
Licensing is an extremely expensive project. The author had previous connections and sounds like he came from money.
I can save you 8 hours of your life right now: get an idea and make it, file provisional patent, make phone calls to companies in hopes they like it.
I proudly INVENTED (the author hates this word) my own product and have been selling it for seven years. I've made the rounds with stuff like this. Nothing in this book I haven't heard in twenty other books.
    Ridiculous.
    Wonderful content, unbelievably boring narrator.
It's too bad the narration is so extremely awful for Content that is so important and exciting.

Title: The Tragedy of Great Power Politics
    Author: John J. Mearsheimer
    Narrator: Mark Ashby
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 16 hrs and 14 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 07-11-13
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 72 votes
    Genres: Business, Career Skills
    Publisher's Summary:
A decade after the cold war ended, policy makers and academics foresaw a new era of peace and prosperity, an era in which democracy and open trade would herald the "end of history." The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, sadly shattered these idyllic illusions, and John Mearsheimer's masterful new book explains why these harmonious visions remain utopian.
To Mearsheimer, great power politics are tragic because the anarchy of the international system requires states to seek dominance at one another's expense, dooming even peaceful nations to a relentless power struggle. Mearsheimer illuminates his theory of offensive realism through a sweeping survey of modern great power struggles and reflects on the bleak prospects for peace in Europe and northeast Asia, arguing that the United States's security competition with a rising China will intensify regardless of "engagement" policies.
    Members Reviews:
    Informative, yet repetitive
Mearsheimer's description of offensive realism and its ramifications remains thoroughly convincing, even if his central point is clinched early in the book. The majority of the book is dedicated to presenting modern history through a realist lens. His goal is to illustrate that throughout modern history state's interactions are largely consistent with the predictions of offensive realism. He does this convincingly.
    Exceptional
Measheimer does what few others are in able or willing to do: to approach geopolitics from a rigorous theoretical perspective, to take a rational, sober view of the world using rigorous methodology and both basing and assessing theory in comparison to the broad range of historical case studies.
In this work, Measheimer lays out in detail the theory of "offensive realism", a neo-realist school distinct from its sibling defensive realism, but also distinct from classical realism. The greatest contrast, of course, is with liberalism, which in the context of foreign relations means that realism is a materialist paradigm that sees politics as being shaped by geography, economics, and power relationships, with offensive realism having the specific prescripts about the nature of the dynamics behind the picture.
For example, offensive realism envisions states as sociopolitical entities whose primary goal is to survive, and because the need for survival quickly brings into view some obvious security dilemmas (states can't be certain of the intentions of others states, therefore they prepare for war and likewise see the preparations and capabilities of other states as potentially threatening to their existence) states will seek to maximize their relative power.
Whether that view is cynical or astute depends on your own biases, but I found Measheimer's arguments well founded and well supported, with a rich analysis and historical backdrop that will make the work entertaining even if one doesn't accept his theory in whole. Indeed, while I think offensive realism has real merit as a theory for understanding international politics, I also think it omits some key factors, such as human psychology and moral influence (moral in the sense Sun Tzu meant the word, not simply in terms of right and wrong).
For me, I think Measheimer captures the essence of a very real pattern underlying geopolitical logic, but that this could only be one of multiple dimension in a more complex multi-stable picture.

    Publisher: The Great Courses

    Genres: Business, Career Skills
    Publisher's Summary:
These eight lectures address two important questions: When is someone else legally responsible for harm done to you? When are you legally responsible for harm done to someone else? This course of eight lectures discusses torts, the body of law designed to redress through civil litigation harms done to persons. As with all bodies of law, in order to analyze the legal implications of a potentially tortious action, it is necessary to blend common sense and pragmatic thinking with an understanding of legal definitions as they have evolved over time. This series not only explains the basics of this substantive body of law, but it also gives insight through examples of how the law is based on a logical idea of a just outcome. Topics you'll explore here include the basic foundations of torts law, the three categories of which it is composed, and the legal factors necessary to find a person liable for a tort; negligence, especially of property owners, and the defenses that can be offered against allegations of negligence; the expanding tort of infliction of emotional distress, which can be either negligent or intentional, but which must pass several specific tests before it can be definitely labeled tortious; third-party intervention in contracts and prospective business; the legal implications of misappropriation of information; and trademark law.

    Great narrator and good content.
Narrator is dramatic and that kept me listening! When I listen to samples the narrator sells or ditches the book; important. I loved the content of this book and appreciated the great points.
Informative and fun lecture on US tort law
I enjoyed Professor Cross's lectures on U.S. tort law, as I did his other series of lectures on U.S. contract law. Professor Cross has an amiable, easy style that makes the lectures enjoyable and less intimidating sounding, even though the topic is law.
My only quibble was that I had wished the professor had been a bit more precise about the facts of the cases mentioned. It would also have been nice to have the actual case names so the keeners among us could have Googled some of them.
As I've said before, it would be great if there were more law lectures like these available on Audible. I'd buy them.
(Here'a a suggestion, Audible: How about Blackstone's Commentaries? I've always wanted to read those. Has anyone prepared an audio version of that classic?)
    A Great Course for Everyone
Everyone experiences negligence & torts about myriad aspects of their lives on an ongoing basis, possibly every day. To ignore this reality puts you at risk of losing something of value to you; maybe even something of great value to you. Professor Cross explains negligence & torts clearly, as simply as possible, with multiple examples, and sometimes with a seasoning of humor.

    Comedy?
This is an edgy self help books, categorized incorrectly (in my opinion). It is repetitive, and I had a hard time finishing it.
    Not the book for me.
Would you try another book from Ruth Field and/or Ruth Field?
I would not. In fact, I wish I had known that her first book was called "Run, Fat Bitch, Run," because I would not have bought this book in the first place. I just think Field's message is fundamentally one I disagree with.
Would you ever listen to anything by Ruth Field again?
    No.
How could the performance have been better?
Actually, I kind of enjoyed her performance.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Frustration. I felt like she went over such obvious topics like "don't watch so much TV" and "obsessing over the lives of celebrities is useless."
    Any additional comments?
If you are a chronically disorganized person who has very little self-discipline, this book might be helpful. If I was to sum up the book entirely, it would be "how to play Alec Baldwin's talk from Glengarry Glen Ross in your head constantly."
Coffee is for closers. We know that.
At the end of the day, I think she was trying to solve a problem that I just don't have.
I have my own slew of "absentminded professor" problems, but being obsessed with X Factor or which celebrities have botox is just not my issue.
Wow! A great straight to the point reading.
I really enjoyed the choice of words within this book. I am excited to read more from her and inspired to GET MY SHIT TOGETHER!
    Really good
Really well presented with some wonderful ideas. I loved listening to this book! Very good.

Would you ever listen to anything by Avinash K. Dixit again?
Probably not, I would rather read it.
What didnt you like about Mark Delgados performance?
    A bit robotic.

It's technically a sound book, but not for audio, unless there are accompanying PDF documents. Narration could probably also have been better.

Not a good book to listen to because it references several charts and performs many logical proofs.
Needs a PDF with charts to make the connections

Tell me something I don't know!
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
New Material would have been nice. It seemed outdated, like being lectured by your dad or a vice principal.
What was most disappointing about Robert C. Pozens story?
It was regurgitated Zig Ziglar without the personality. I have received better tips from my high school guidance counselor.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Arthur Morey?
Carol O'Connor would be nice alas he is dead, I listened to this at work and it literally put me to sleep.
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
no I did not like this book, I don't know if I can waste fifteen words in this category but this book feels like it was written for people who live sterile lives
    Any additional comments?
    no
    Title Content Disconnect
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
This is a nice book worth reading. Most people figure all this stuff out by age 25. Therefore it is best for younger people. This does not mean us older folks could not benefit from reminders. The name implies a potentially huge paradigm shift in thinking. A better title would be "Consistent Productivity: Uncle Bob tells us how to Get Stuff Done"
Would you recommend Extreme Productivity to your friends? Why or why not?
Yes I would recommend this book to someone who has trouble getting out of their own way. Super achievers would not be challenged.
What about Arthur Moreys performance did you like?
Friendly voice easy to understand. That is probably why I gave the subtitle Uncle Bob tells us how to get things done.
Did Extreme Productivity inspire you to do anything?
Listening to all of Robert Pozen's accomplishments makes me think his DNA is different than the rest of us mortals. His ability to absorb knowledge makes him an outlier. Not to be funny but my first inspiration was to give up.

    Great content, horrible narrator
Brad Feld's book is a fantastic overview and insight into the important moving parts necessary for a healthy entrepreneurial ecosystem.
But this is one of the few disappointing experiences I've had with audible.com. This narrator is worse than monotone, I could swear this was a machine-generated voiceover. What a HORRIBLE rendering of a topic that should be conveyed in a dynamic and passionate way. That's what the book is all about, after all: the dynamic and passionate nature of the startup community.
    A very important book
Buying two copies. If you read this in Wisconsin, reach out and lets get to it!
Great! Many points only true to US though...
Would you listen to Startup Communities again? Why?
Lots of solid advice and specific items that I'd like to research in more detail.
Would you be willing to try another book from Brad Feld? Why or why not?
    Yes, because he's got experience...
    Any additional comments?
Very US specific, some advice extremely tough to implement, specifically about the role of government. In the Middle East, with high friction between borders, government plays crucial role at least logistically and bureaucratically.. .
Good on creating a startup ecosystem
Would you try another book from Brad Feld and/or David Kaplan?
Yes for Mr. Feld but did not care for Mr. Kaplan's reading style.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Startup Communities?
All the pieces of the puzzel Mr. Feld points out.
Would you be willing to try another one of David Kaplans performances?
Did not care for his style of reading
Do you think Startup Communities needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No it covers all the basics just fine
    Any additional comments?
I recommend for those interested in creating a startup ecosystem to read this book.
    Must Read For Entrepreneurs
If you could sum up Startup Communities in three words, what would they be?
    Next Level Insight
    Any additional comments?
I picked up this book because I loved my experience with an accelerator and wanted to give back by starting my own. I used the information I learned from the book to nail 2 subsequent pitches.
